Thanks for the video,. I just did this job , it was easiest one I have ever done thankfully. I managed to leave the brake light switch on , and the tiny retaining screw that holds in the brake piston , just wound it out enough to release it , if I took these out I’m going to lose the screws for sure . I also left the brake hose on too , I couldn’t see no gain in taking that off . Surprisingly the brake reverse bled immediately, the last time I did this procedure on my old GPZ 500 it took an age to bleed up . Btw my kit came with the rubber seal and the master cylinder cap seal also .
Video was very helpful, thanks! The inner rubber thing jammed me up.
Not the best video of Kansas.
*promosm*
I really don’t- as you can see, I just start replacing parts until it all works
I bought a 1100 gs 1996 without seeing it yet. The owner said that the front brake are faulty... he changed the fluid but i think he said that the brakes can still brake itself. Do you know what can it be ?
Probably some ABS nonsense, just take it off like most have .
my man
This is the best all inclusive video invitation I ever seen. I’ll be there with all my family. It will be epic!
do you havce the part number for the Yakima landing pads?
I still have the box!! 8000248 Landing pad 22
Thanks for the video. I'm about to replace the panels in my 1974 Series III and your experience is very helpful. Exmoor and Rovers North might sell more of these kits if they would supply good instructions along with video on their recommended install procedures.
very funny and helpful, and thanks for doing the hard work for everyone haha!
So wanna know my PTSD? I changed the left head gasket. Didn't see the left chain tensioner did the right. Long story short messed up the time from crank to both heads. My mind couldn't work called dad to come help not damaging the valves. Finally had to take off the front cover and do it right. Also to add some Le Creme on top of that for some reason my flywheel been messed with with PO and my OT mark is half way off the actual TDC so had to make new mark to but locking the engine now is not easy....hope to get it done.
May the motor gods shine on you!
This is a very helpful video. I wish I saw it before doing the work, since I damaged the sprocket and the place where it's supposed to sit (it cracked). How did you align the sprocket with the head? Did you turn the engine without putting the sprocket on its place? Or did you put it on enough to be able to turn it until it could snap in its place?
I turned the engine and gear with chain on it until that tooth by the hole in the sprocket that acts like a key to align the sprocket and head lined up- several times- and crushed that alignment tooth once and needed to replace it

Be there again on 28th!
Thanks a TON for your video. Thanks to your demonstration my son and I were able to replace the plunger and finally have brakes again after a long time dreading this project. Unlike your kit, mine did contain the dust cover but we didn't discover it until after everything was reassembled.
Hi man I was there too
Thanks for the vid, it was indeed helpful as I needed to repair mine as well. Two things I have to offer to anyone else doing this repair.... don't bother to begin unless you have all the parts. The main reason these things fail is going to be because small amounts of brake fluid cause the rubber seal to turn to jelly. This allows gunk of all kinds to enter the cylinder. If your rebuild kit doesn't come with one, don't begin. The other thing was that I had a large build up of gunk inside between the rubber seal and the piston, and I didn't have one of those cool pliers as does Rover Lover to pull it out. I ended up getting a 10mm drill bit and my cordless drill. The bit is just large enough to get stuck in the piston, the turning thereof served to clean the bore very nicely, no further sanding was necessary. Beware the spring is coming at you as well, that should also be in the replacement kit. Getting the lever back in was simple after I realised that the rubber seal needed to be extended all the way out. The spring pushes the piston out too far to mount the seal in the end position. You might want to put something soft on the ground just in case you drop the lever which I did several times. Pushing the piston in and getting the lever the right way around the brake light switch took me a few tries, so there may be a possibility to actually break the lever during that rather hair- raising step in the assembly. I've actually done a lot of the big repairs on my bike (1994 R1100GS with abs) like the clutch and the generator (sounds simple, doesn't it) but this was one of the repair jobs that I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do correctly. All said and done, it was really well worth the effort as the brakes work much better all around. Many thanks to the author for the information, hope this helps someone else as well.
I think these mid 90’s R1100’s are the best! I also have replaced the clutch and alternator. Both were awful but rewarding in the end. Last year was he was gaskets. I have a video about all of those failures!!
Hey There - very helpful, thanks!
This is my fav song from Patch The Sky. Love hearing Bob electric solo. <3
Love this song. No one better than Bob. Can't wait to see him back with the band, too. Thx for uploading.
