      Salut, et merci! I found this MP-113 through an Ebay sale many years ago, but it was listed as not working, so I took the risk and I was able to repair it. But I wanted something that could drone and perform chords, and that's where I started working with Arduino and the Teensy 3.2. I've since upgraded this unit with a Teensy 4.1, and added the ability to save presets and customize chord layouts. Here's the video of of the "AutoBass II" in action: ua-cam.com/video/Ekpke9AoxOY/v-deo.htmlsi=7di53n1dij7BDNn5 . In that video, you will see me switching chords by pressing the keys, the chords will latch/hold and drone until a new key is pressed. I have drum triggers attached to the Kick drum and the 3 toms, which are then connected to the AutoBass. Every time one of those drums are played, a bass note is played which corresponds to the droning chord. This way the drummer can play an bass arpeggio just by playing drums. I am planning on building a unit for sale that will have all these features and be more ergonomic to use. But if you wanted to try to build or modify something yourself, Dave from "Notes and Volts" has a great tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/OrhE2SNanfA/v-deo.htmlsi=4tBUCxXdg1xzgMf7 I will also be releasing a Latch/Hold Pedal called "The MonoLAtch", you can see the prototype here: ua-cam.com/video/2B8JR2YXIjs/v-deo.htmlsi=rZBbrcCXHMFEtpuR

      For the most part, yes, this is all built with open source code and basic materials. I'm running Raspian lite on a PiZero 2w, and using the General Midi soundfont pack from here: schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php , and this is one of the tutorials I used: ua-cam.com/video/HMbMyLnL4EQ/v-deo.htmlsi=SqkFUEcXIELXyYJR . Are you still using this? Does this all need to be in the pedalor could this all be put together in a separate box and controlled with a Midi Cable. You really thought it through, this should be on the market. How Many hours would it take me to build something with this functionality?

    • @jonathanzeppa
      @jonathanzeppa 2 місяці тому

      Thank you! And yes, I'm still making changes and upgrades to the AutoBass. I've since added a much larger display, and the ability to save presets. I've also greatly improved the drum trigger section for better performance and response. What you see in this video was at least a year of development and testing, so a project like this isn't measured in hours - more like months! I have released some of the code to my Github page, along with a number of my other projects. Here's a video of the AutoBass II in action, where I'm changing the drone chords, and the drummer is actually playing the bassline: ua-cam.com/video/Ekpke9AoxOY/v-deo.htmlsi=MfsfFXpozOkUWBds

      @@jonathanzeppa Its so good, I want to make one but don't have the coding skills... Are you going to sell them some day? Or sell a kit? @@jonathanzeppa thanks for your time, im diving down the Zynthian rabbit hole now..... though seems like overkill... My end goal is to play chords with foot pedals... through a keyboard or IOS as an audio source to help the trio sound full when the guitar guy takes a solo.... It would be nice to have different Keys/ Chord sets stored for different songs, maybe a tap tempo for an arpeggiator... The Keith Mcmillen had promise but the pedals are miserable... I really like what you have done with your studio logic.

      @@TepidJean Thank you! I do have plans to build an entirely new AutoBass, it's just going to take some time due to the complexity of the machine. But, If you wanted to build something sooner here's some links to 2 of my favorite synth focused UA-camrs. Notes and Volts: ua-cam.com/video/OrhE2SNanfA/v-deo.htmlsi=4JTEeEJA1Artu-CQ, and Floyd Steinbergs Channel: ua-cam.com/video/FjLcPNhzAwo/v-deo.htmlsi=ec_r8FRqcEcpxP_x . These might help you get started in building a chord machine. Also, here's my GitHub and a much simpler version of the AutoBass: github.com/JonathanZeppa/2022-01-19-AutoBassMini

  • @666squidly

    This looks like exactly what I need. Does it stop the note off signal from being sent past the unit until another note on signal is sent? If so do you have instructions on how to make and code one? Not something I've done before, I've built and modded guitar pedals but they were all analogue.

    • @jonathanzeppa
      @jonathanzeppa 2 місяці тому

      I don't have the source code posted anywhere yet. When the unit is off, it simply passes midi data through with no alteration. But when the unit is engaged, it uses a "state machine" logic, and it only emits the Note On message, and only sends a Note Off message when either the same note is pressed, or a new note is pressed. And as a safety, when the unit is turned off from the foot switch, it also sends out a MIDI CC message to turn off all notes. That way if there was a runaway note somewhere, the user has an easy way to turn it off. I'm having some boards manufactured right now, I'm just waiting on delivery. I'm hoping to sell a few of these units, as a number of the floorboard MIDI controllers do not have a latch or note hold feature.

    How did you mod the 113? Ive been looking for ways to have more control of it without having to bend over to change parameters. The thing is surprisingly lacking when it comes to controling it hands free. If there is anywhere you can point me it would be greatly appreciated. ✌️🖖🤘🏻

    • @jonathanzeppa
      @jonathanzeppa 3 місяці тому

      @@vit4min_c the main part of the MP113 is pretty much the same. The midi controller is still in tact. I added a Teensy 4.1 with MIDI in/out, and added a logic to the code for different types of chords on Midi Channel 1. Midi Channel 2 handles the bass notes from the drum triggers. The kick drum sensor will always play the root note of the active chord, and the tom sensors will play the other notes in the chord, allowing the drummer to play a bass note arpeggio - this is why I named it The AutoBass.
