    Describing the politics of Northern Idaho as a bunch of good natured outdoors enthusiasts who occasionally like to speak their minds is highly misleading. Of course, not EVERYONE is like this, but Northern Idaho is a refuge for conspiracy theorists, survivalists, militias, tax deniers, and religious zealots.

      @@Ben_Genaetta A couple weeks ago I was driving in southern Benewah County. I stayed overnight at McCroskey State Park. Talked to two couples, one from Sandpoint and one from Tekoa, Washington. Both told me this was Trump Country. Before I got to that park I went on a road with a sort of compound with three flags on a pole, top one was American Flag, next one down was a Trump flag and the bottom was Idaho state flag. I know about Rawles and the American Redoubt. And I know that the Redoubt Newsletter talks about your area being a place for the remnant or a place of refuge for white Christians, conservatives and Christian nationalism. When I drove to Moscow, I talked to a guy on a sidewalk who was good friends of Doug Wilson, the pastor who wants to stop Moscow from being the only blue dot in a red state and he is also a Christian nationalist with he said, has contacts in North Idaho. I know you have militias such as the Light Foot Militia. And I'm not a democrat. I just don't like hatred like what conservatives are spreading. I can't even vote in a state primary. I'm from a milder county. No militias. A bit rough in the past but not so much now.

    have to add... as a 25 year resident - "red flag caution" - far,far right run this area. That means - taking over library and local college rather than closing local China owned whore house and bars with zero parking required (your block will be their parking) that may open next to your residence. Local officals and police say the problem is at the state level, they can do nothing. State level local senate dosen't care..,. they're big focus in on the library!!!??? Library is a national move so... as in the past - to the future... they will NOT address local issues. Neighborhood, in addition to having a 5 year operating China owned whore house now has only 20% owner occupancy for 1/2 mile around. The rest are short term vacation rentals owned by out of state/out of country real estate investors. It's like termites... it's here... and unfortunately - it appears to be terminal. Our senators have done ZERO for the last 5 years to promote responsible growth. So sad.. It's all about growth and money. Residents do not count.

Slow speed zones, town shuts down at 7 pm, no shopping, scary hillbillies in the woods, yes the Arians are here. The lake is poisonous, there is a lock Ness monster here, it will eat you, the town is haunted, you can't afford to live here, let alone ski here. Bears eat people here, you will total your car with a moose. Trains everywhere stopping you, horns no matter where you live. How can it be neutral when there's so many price drops and lots of inventory? Most homes are staying on the market for over 60 days. Buckle up the market is changing!

    • @Ben_Genaetta
      @Ben_Genaetta Місяць тому

      The price drops are sellers pricing too high. If you look at what that house sold for when it last sold to what it’s selling for now, it appreciated. There looks to be more inventory but that’s not the case. There are less homes hitting the market, they are just taking about 30-45 days longer to sell. When you look at days on market pre Covid to today, it’s about the same. When you look at the average sale price 24 months ago to today, there is a 1K increase. It’s easy to think we are not in a neutral market when you look at surface level information. In what way do you think the market is changing?

    Appreciate your take on things. Speaking as someone who got pushed out of the state they grew up in because of rising costs, overarching government regulations/intrusions and crazy ideologies infecting schools and the workplace, CDA is an interesting place. It is not for everyone, in fact, it's hard to say who it might be perfect for. Older retirees with a nest egg, sure, but it better be a big enough nest egg to also have a place down south for the winters, because the winters will tap you. So for such people, either be extremely mobile or highly introvert and comfortable with long stents bundling up at home due to darkness and cold. Cost of living has increased since 2018-2019, yet salaries have not. We call them "Idaho Dollars" and businesses here are used to paying them and still act like the cost of living is low. I worked for a time in downtown CDA and my industry's best offer was a 30-35% pay reduction from where I came from. CDA is best for younger, career established, remote workers who get their paychecks from a company that is based in a state that pays high salaries. If that person, you would love this place if you are active, love nature and ski or have some other activities that get you out during the winter. The con of conservative values is a bit off in my opinion. A real assessment for me is that CDA proper is more like a 60%40% leading left as most artsy tourist towns of grayed hair hippies do lean left. There are nice people on both sides but, and this is a big but, at least 50% will be locked into their ideologies. The people of CDA and the pan handle are not as friendly and welcoming as described in this video. Sorry, but the society up here has some real issues. One half are snobbish because they believe they are better by their ideology and the other half literally hate that you moved to their land. So no matter what ideology you have, you will cross paths with someone who will be rude to you in some way. Other than that, enjoy your time here! But definitely, do not judge CDA by your summer vacation. It is actually a quiet town on average. Good luck.

    Nazis and white supremacy is definitely still in north Idaho. Just 2 years ago a bunch of Proud Boys got busted on their way to a pride event. I know a small business owner personally who has been doxxed and attacked online and in person by the neo nazis. Other than that, houses are super expensive and because of that, at least in Sandpoint, there’s not a lot of young people. You either inherit the house when your folks die or you move away.

    The maximum someone could afford (be approved for a mortgage) with $65K income, with no other debt/loans outstanding, is about $300K so therefore anyone hoping to buy in these markets are going to have to show up with at least a $350K down payment…and then they’re not going to be able to afford the other costs associated with debt of that size. Just admit it…it’s a California market. It’s for all the people that inherited a house their parents bought for $35,000, 30 years ago. They can’t afford the property taxes in CA on what is now “valued” at 1.5 million so they sell it and show up to places like Sandpoint and pay top/insane dollar…all cash, driving the market out of reach for everyone else.

      Thank you for watching. There are definitely paths to home ownership in North Idaho and no you don’t need to make tons of money, even though that does make it easier. I’ve helped several locals. You don’t make a bunch of money get into a home that they love.

    You said that shit with a straight face - at least $650K median homes with only about $65K for income. This is pure insanity…plus a lot of these homes look like (I had a more colorful analogy) shacks. Yes, both of these towns are beautiful but you can’t eat scenery.

    my 2 cents... He mentions Smoked Smith BBQ. I ate there once. The food was okay, but not what I'd call good. Their band played so loud it was impossible carry on a conversation while eating. Pack River restaurant. It's pretty good, but it's 20 min northeast of Sandpoint, putting it almost an hour from me. The Fat Pig. I ate there twice. It sucked both times. And the 313. Never tried it, but never talked to anyone who thought it was special. He lists Powder hound. Decent pizza, but definitely not awesome. Plenty of places serve better. Burger Doc? Been there a few times. Decent hamburgers, but horrible service. HE DOESN'T MENTION A SINGLE ONE OF THE TRULY EXCELLENT RESTAURANTS IN SANDPOINT! Spuds - awesome. Everything on the menu is incredible. Arlo's - best Italian you'll ever eat. Baxters - best pub food in North Idaho. Best desserts anywhere. City Beach Organics - best deli sandwiches and wraps I've ever eaten Heart Bowls - best fruit bowls in the world Joel's - best mexican food in north idaho Pie Hut - great sandwiches, killer pies And the most egregious omission of all... The Forge Artisan Pizza. Nuff said

    I used to live in Sandpoint, Idaho. I went to 1st to 12 grade there, but when i got out of the Army and started to look for jobs in 1993. (before the internet days) and found nothing in Sandpoint. Then the only way you would find a job is family business, friends or you had a trade license or work at Mc Donalds for minimum wage or work in a sawmill which i did but left on the second day. That sawmill job was the hardest job physically i have ever had (green chain). I would turn down that job for 100$ an hour. just trash.

    I think the politics of these areas are good not really going into the partisan politics, it’s just they seem more common sense for the various elected officials, and the elected positions that are not good the people put those people in check pretty fast. Just good politics in both cities. One thing I think you should touch on is the lakes, because of both places being lake shore towns, lake pend oreilli is colder and that explains some of these micro climates you speak of, not as comfortable of a lake at sandpoint .
