Fused Glass - Fun Fishbowl with Scrap Glass and Frit

This one started out as just a fun project with some scrap glass and some frit... bit it turned out looking very beautiful in my window shelf. I will probably have to change the water every few weeks, but I think it will be worth the effort. The sand came in a 20kg bag, so I will also change the sand to new clean sand when I change the water. The 20kg bag of sand will probably last me more than...

Thank you for watching my video. Sometimes things don't work out as planned, and we can sometimes also be our own biggest critics. But we must realise, that at the end of the day, if we put our time, effort and love into a project, it's worth more than something bought. Any objections to showing this video during a Zoom meeting of our Facebook glass group (Lunch with a Glass Artist-Larry Pile)?
You are welcome to do so ❤️
What part of SA are you in? I lived in the country near Tzaneen and in Cape Town for a while. Window looks cool. I have plans for a fused glass nautilus someday
Hi Danny, I’m in Pretoria
What a super idea for kids ❤
Thank you 🌷
Hi Sandra. This is beautiful. Super job !❤thank you for sharing
Thank you 🌸
Can’t wait to see the finished window! A lot of hard work and patience but I’m sure the result will be fantastic! Thanks again for your videos ❤
Are they called layout strips?
Thank you so much Rachel. Yes, lots of patience, but I do love the challenge, and fingers crossed it all works out well at the end ❤️
I think so, or layout blocks. Thank you! Now I remember 😃
IT'S LOOKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Annette 🌸
Many thanks for your video! Especially when you’re so busy! Love stained glass and can’t wait to see your finished window ❤
Thank you so much Rachel. I just posted the second one 🌷
Hi Sandra, don't know if I missed it, but how often, or how far apart do you use strongline? Also where do you get it from. Tx Jean
Hi Jean, the bigger your window is, the more strongline you will need. This one is almost a square meter, therefore not a total necessity but advisable. If you go bigger than this one, it becomes necessary. The spaces will mostly depend on your pattern, where you have the straightest lines from one side to the other, but I would say not more than half a meter apart from each other. If you have your pattern before you, you should also get a “feeling” of where they should go, where you think the window will be most likely buckle
Sorry, almost forgot, I bought it on Amazon
Another thing, the more solder lines you have, the stronger your window will be. Because I have quite large pieces in the window, the solder lines are less and I therefore add strongline
Thank you, that helps a lot.
My pleasure 🌸 You are welcome to ask questions anytime
NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN. THE WINDOW LOOKS NICE SO FAR.
Thank you so much 🌷
Your English is great! ❤
Thank you Marilyn 🌷
I love this one. Can’t wait to try this. Thank you ❤

Very beautiful - I love it🥰 But I can’t see the pdf ? What am I missing?😢
Thank you 🐠 Sorry for answering so late. In the description is a link that starts https. Click on that. Please let me know if you are still struggling so we can make a different plan for you to get it
how to make the mold ? or where to purchase one ? i live in canada
Hi, I’m in South Africa, a lady here makes them. I have no idea how she makes them. Maybe you can ask on one of the stained glass Facebook groups if anyone knows of someone in Canada who can make them
I am not finding the link to your patterns. I am in US. Can you explain where I can find them?
Hi Cathy. In the descriptions under the videos it says “Link to pattern:” and then a link that starts with https. Click on that link. If you continue to struggle, please send a email to alexglass333@gmail.com and let me know which patterns you want. I will then email them to you 🌸
I was able to find them! Thanks for your help. I really enjoyed your content. I subscribed.
I’m glad you found them and that you enjoy my content. Thank you for letting me know and also for subscribing. I’m going to start working on my next video next week… 🩷

Lovely project! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m so sorry for your loss. Our fur babies are a huge part of our lives and leave a big hole when they pass, no matter how long they are with us ❤ Take your time and look forward to your next video when you’re ready 💕
Thank you so much 🩷 Yes, she was my baby, I’m devistated. I have two new rescue babies, brother and sister, busy adapting but already love them so much 🐱🩷🐱🩵
@@alexandrasglassart it’s so hard. Sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through the pain but then focus on the sheer joy they bring! All the very best 💕🐾💕
Thank you Rachel 🌷
What is the mold made out of. And where do you find it? This is a very beautiful lamp.
I’m not exactly sure what it’s made of, It’s a lady here in South Africa who makes them and then another one here who draws patterns on molds. You can maybe ask on the Stained Glass Facebook pages if there is someone in your area who makes molds
Hello, can you tell me what solution you put on the glass before welding the metal? What is that solution for?
It’s flux. I like to use liquid flux (you also get flux in a paste)
@@alexandrasglassart Thank you, that's very helpful to me 🥰
You’re welcome. You are welcome to ask questions any time 🌸
I appreciate you and your art. Thank you for sharing your story. I live near Seattle Washington in America.

A very well done tutorial. Hello from Florida!
Thank you so much 😃
Wow, it looks great! 🐌 ❤ Thank you for sharing another great project & hard work in putting these videos together. Also great instructions! I also didn’t realise you had restrictions with electricity. Just to complicate things even further! Thanks again ❤

What a cool project! Thanks for sharing!

Have you tried freeze and fuse for your clown fish?
Hi, I couldn’t find a mold for the clownfish, otherwise I would have. The shells were made the freeze & fuse method
@@alexandrasglassart have you tried Temu
Thank you, I just downloaded the app and will have a look
I buy from there all the time. It is cheaper than Amazon for art supplies....molds, beads ,mica powders......
They really are cheap, and they ship for free to South Africa 😃 Thank you for this! It’s expensive for my to buy on Amazon, with shipping costs and import tax I paid double for my ring saw. But they are planning on building a warehouse here, I’m so looking forward to that. I just had to buy and import new blades for my ring saw… shipping and import tax is killing me
I love it. You did a wonderful Job.
Thank you so much 🌼
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT WORK
Thank you 🌺
What a wonderful piece. So sorry you not only have kiln temps but electrical time. It should teach people in America to be a lot more appreciative of what we have. So many complaints here. They should be ashamed. Thanks for your wonderful work. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much 🌸 We do have solar power at home so we are never in the dark, but I can’t fuse on solar power, I have to switch over. It’s very frustrating that I feel limited as to what I can do, I have so many ideas. But it seems like it’s starting to get better now…. less loadshedding this weekend, but I don’t want to get my hopes up up too much.
@@alexandrasglassart I will pray all goes well for you.
Thank you 🌷
I’m going to have to try this snail. I did a flamingo the exact same way, with the ‘grout’
I found that using hairspray and an eye dropper helps pack down the blac
Awesome!! I’d love to see yours when it’s done 😃
I thought about using hairspray but decided not to as I didn’t want to loose even the tiniest bit of volume of powder that I could get into the spaces. I wanted the lines to come out pitch black
@@alexandrasglassart do a test. I used stiff black powder
@@alexandrasglassart I’ve been trying to send you a photo, but can’t figure out how
Sandra, that was beautiful! So many small pieces that you created, you made a snail puzzle, lol! I always enjoy your videos as you make everything look very simple. You are very thorough and precise in your work and the results are amazing! Beautiful colors too. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment 🤗 I’m really happy that you like it 🌷
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing your work. Do you cut all your glass with a hand tool or do you have access to a saw in your studio? From my experience, cutting inside curves can be very difficult,
Hi Dan, thank you so much. I do have a ring saw but mostly cut by hand, only when it’s very difficult to cut a piece by hand I use the saw. The blade for my ring saw was also broken and I had to wait a few weeks for a new one to be sent to South Africa from the USA.
Previous commentor was right. It still came out quite lovely. Looks great in that sunny window.
Thank you so much 🌼
