Purple Martin Cruise
One of the bird species we fledge here on the farm are Purple Martins. They are beneficial birds that eat insects 150-500 feet off the ground and even get their water during flight by skimming the surface of ponds.
Did you know Purple Martins migrate to South America? One of the largest migratory roosts is right here in the heart of South Jersey and in August we attended @cu_mauriceriver Purple Martin Spectacular Cruise to experience it.
CU Maurice River is an organization that is committed to protecting the natural resources of the Maurice River, which was deemed a Wild and Scenic River in 1993 and is part of the National Park Service. They offer Naturalist guided walks, paddles and presentations to promote stewardship.
We boarded the ship, Bonanzaz II, and headed up river to find the birds. Hundreds of thousands of Purple Martins congregate in the reeds of the Maurice River in mid August to eat, socialize, and rest before making their long trek to South America.

Thanks. The problem I had with my four wheeler was exactly what you described and we replaced the shifter motor and the problem is solved. Thanks.
So glad to hear this helped!

You’re welcome!
HOLD STEM AND TAP ONTO SIDE OF A WICKER BASKET FOR EASY HARVEST. OR PERM COMB
I south east Alaska the elderberries were red
No honey,?
You cant be serious?
I had no idea! What do I do with the flowers after I trim them off?
So cool thank you
Yes! This is my first year with lavender plants. I have 2 planted near a rose bush. Perfect timing!
I concur! Excellent benefits!
Perfect timing. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do with it. Some of the stems have died completely 🫤 I’m bulling this will bring the rest of the plant back to life.
So glad to hear this! Happy trimming!
Help.
What do you need help with?
@@copperknollfarms just my yard, nothing life-threatening besides my neighborhood’s obsession with riding lawnmowers as often as a quiet moment occurs in the day🤨
Lavender is literally one of my favorite things on the planet
It's an amazing plant!
seeing those bees and other bugs flying makes me happy. GO AND POLLINATE ❤
We have hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) in our field most of the summer. It makes us happy, too!
I'm having a hard time with lavenders and ferns
What seems to be the problem?
this dont grow in southeast asia?
Not sure, what is your climate like? Lavender likes well draining soil and staying dry.
I cut an old lavender back to six inch wood nubs. Never saw a lovelier one since
Yes, some varieties really do well with a hard prune!
👍👍just curious if you would happen to know the part # of the motor...pretty sure it's the correct one for our 2012 Honda Foreman that has a faulty shift motor...thank you for this video feller 👍👍👊
Sorry for the delayed response! Here is the Amazon link to the replacement motor we used: amzn.to/4dUxU2Q
@@copperknollfarms no problem!!.. thank you so much man👍👍👊
does the leaves edible?
It's adorable that you've done both ❤
Thank you!
Now you’re living! Best upgrade you could have done. Nice job. 👍
Yes, it has been so nice!
They grow fast! Looking good!
They really do! Thanks so much!
Let's go
Hahaha
LOL!
Now make a video what people think cotton farmers do
😂
Whopeshh whopesshh
😂
I mean..
Yep 😊😊😊
Can I ask where you purchased the post and gourds from?
Absolutely! It is a kit from Troyer Birds Paradise. Please tell them we sent you!
What lavander you think is more compact?
Angustifolias (English) Lavender are the most compact. Intermedias (French) are much larger
i hope they have bees that make lavender honey
Or you could make lavender honey yourself?! ❤
@@natnat7583 Ive done that, but it was honey with whole flower lavender. No bees involved, but I've had some made by bees and tastes better. How would you make it?
Lavender is one of my favorite herbs 🌿
ah yes manipulating apical dominance by pruning.
That's pretty cool
Glad you enjoyed it!
You can also inhale from the sache deeply to get similar allergy relief to zyrtec.
That's not french lavender it's English lavender 🪻 google it
Good to know 😊
Glad you found it helpful!
Kimmy, is that you?
I tried to grow it from established plants in small pots but ended up with 8 dead plants
Were you trying to propagate more from the established plant?
What about Spanish lavender!
Awesome! What variety of lavender is this?
Folgate
Excelente , saludos desde El Salvador.
My lavender is already established but I’m never sure when exactly to harvest it
We have a video about that coming up! If you want to harvest for bouquets for fresh or dried it’s best to cut them when 1/3 of the flowers are open on each stem. This will help keep the buds intact if you decide to dry them.
Does this work for French lavender, too? Just been out and trimmed my English lavender; thanks for reminding me.
Yes it does! The one trimmed in this video is a French lavender
I’d love lavender in my garden! So do you cut it every few weeks in the first year and when the second spring comes around, you just let it do it’s thing?
We cut the buds off every week the year it is planted so the plant grows larger. Then the second year you can enjoy it! 💜
Love lavender ❤
Glad you enjoy it as much as we do!
Why isn’t that a standard feature to begin with? Every single loader is equipped with this where I live
I believe it is now but this tractor is older. Our new one came with it standard.
Thank you so much this video! So helpful (the instructions were not). Much appreciation
We thought so too which is why we made this video. Glad it helped you!
If you want to keep checking you should put a camera in there if you can because it is illegal to harm harass them or interfere with the nesting process
Thanks for the comment but we are trained and under supervision of the NJ Bluebird Society. Quickly checking boxes as part of actively monitoring of a bluebird trail is not harmful or harassing them. Also, The Migratory Bird Treaty Act protects the removal of active *native* birds nests and eggs. We are simply recording data from our trail and reporting it to NJBBS for research purposes.
Ok then that’s cool
I’m a first timer with 5 babies that were hatched on May 4th so I appreciate your channel and I’m glad that I came across it today, thanks
So glad to hear this! Thank you and wishing you all the best during your bluebird season
Great job! Love the updates. Love the Chickadees are doing so well, they are soon to be on the in-risk list, due to the loss of habitat.
Thank you so much!
