I'm a bit of a video nut, a hobby I picked up from my Dad, who was heavily into Super 8 cine when it came out and then video. My channel is a mish-mash of videos in various categories, some instructional, some purely for entertainment. I hope you enjoy them!
Neat Video on a Very Noisy Cine film Capture
An example of Neat Video cleaning up a very messy cine film capture. The Neat video settings for dust and scratches were "Aggressive" and set at the maximum values. If you look very closely, you will notice some light softening of the image, caused by the very strong denoising. Overall though, for a few clicks, I think NV has done a great job.

DV Analogue Digitisation Comparison
Переглядів 788 місяців тому
Scenario: MiniDV tape to be digitised. Problem: A Firewire connection on the PC is becoming rare. Especially for modern laptops, if the multichaining of Firewire 400-800-Thunderbolt-Thunderbolt 2/3 doesn't work, options for digitising DV (either MiniDV or Digital8) are limited. One method is to use the analogue capture process, similar to that used to digitise VHS tapes. This video compares a p...
Neat Video Demo on a really bad VHS tape capture

I didn't spend a lot of time adjusting the settings for the Neat Video noise reduction plugin for this; I just put the Temporal noise reducer controls to max, and the Spatial control to higher than the default. The last segment has the Spatial denoiser wound full up (probably a bit too much! :) ).
4-3 Video With 16-9 Pillarboxing

The pillarboxing (burned-in side bars) reduces the size of the active image on phones held in Portrait orientation, and annoying black side bars are displayed in players such as UA-cam and VLC.

ES15 Comparison
Переглядів 412Рік тому
A comparison video from @armyofquad showing the stabilising effect of a Panasonic DMR ES-15 in an analogue video capture workflow (between VCR and digitiser). The tape is in an awful state and the VCR may be pretty low-quality as well but the effects of the ES-15 are obvious.
Histogram Use in Virtual Dub

A video showing how to use the histogram in Virtual Dub to set the brightness and contrast ("the levels") to within the safe range before or during analogue video capture. This video is using Virtual Dub 2. For Virtual Dub 1.xxx the Capture AVI command is in the File menu. You do not have to capture with VDub; get the correct proc amp settings using this technique then capture with your preferr...

Timeline Editing with Virtual Dub

A quick and dirty tute on timeline editing with Virtual Dub. Apologies for any stutters, stumbles and mumbles. I made this for a poster on Videohelp.com and thought I may as well leave it up for all to see. Although I used Vdub2 here, the same principles apply for earlier versions. I usually use AmarecTV to capture, and I adjusted my Hauppauge's proc amp until things looked correct on both my pc's monitor and my lcd tv. But when trying to tweak the colors in Davinci Resolve using the Parade scope, everything's already clipped, even though it's not maxed out in the scope. So now I'm trying to use the histogram in Virtualdub 1.10.4 to find the proper proc amp settings, but the histogram is just a black box... no activity whatsoever. Is it just this version of Vdub? Also, just a note about the proc amp disappearing on you... instead of the Capture Filter, you can access the basic brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and contrast in the Levels tab as well (L). edit: never mind... it's working in Virtualdub2.
I picked up a DMR-ES16... the Canadian version. I have a JVC HR-S7800U svhs with a built-in line tbc, but 2 of my tapes have tearing at the top edge with it enabled, and the entire frame slanted to the left with it off. The Panasonic completely fixes that. It did however drop frames here and there. Not in the capture app, but the Panasonic itself. I fixed it by adding a fan to the rear exhaust. The lid would get quite warm after an hour or so, but now it's cool to the touch, and no more dropped frames. I used a Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM fan, and took the 5v from the capacitor directly behind the optical audio port on the board. Then hot glued the fan inside the case. I would have drilled and screw mounted, but didn't feel like pulling the board. You can see the heastsink on the chip inside... I almost felt like swapping in an old AMD heatsink that clamps down the same way. 😋
Thanks for the info.
❤❤ Greatest achievement in Australian sporting history 👍🏽
Growing up in Port Stephens in the early 80s, we had NBN, the ABC and sometimes, if the weather was right, 9/8 from Tamworth. My head exploded one morning when the NBN chopper landed on Shoal Bay beach.
I have no knowledge of the lore surrounding this event . All I know is this day is the cornerstone for Australian culture.
It brought the country to a halt! Great times indeed. :)
How this has not been made into a movie is beyond me. The crazy Australians gunning to beat the Americans in the oldest race and an America that has never lost the race ever before this.
It was a turned into a mini series.
They have made a movie but it didn’t do it justice
Where's Jon Henry now
Sorry who's Jon Henry - I might know a Henry John ...
Mr/Ms AA Prods Do you realise you have a piece of Newcastle radio/tv history here ? I was looking for the TVC I shot (Arri 16BL) which used a theme from another station up north - "Keeps ya feeling good all over" - it was early 80's. Great time - the most amazing radio announcers on all Newcastle radio stations, and outside the 5 major cities, was the 6th major advertising market for TV.. Im carrying on ... I doubt anyone who didnt live and breath 2KO, 2NX (even 2HD sometimes !) - and NBN 3 - Mosbri Crescent, Newcastle NSW Australia could understand.
I'm glad it brought back happy memories, @VH-TAC! I was at Willy in the early 80s and had a blast; this one and the NBN ad were just so Newcastle, I still love playing them.

what dll did you choose for proc amps adjusting via graphstudio? thank you in advance.
No need to choose any DLLs, just choose one of the entries for your digitiser in the Graphstudio filters list. Check out my Graphstudio setup guide on my website here: www.aaproductions.net/grahpstudio.htm
Breathtaking day on the morning of 27th September (Sydney time) or 26th September New York time, 1983!!!
What a great day it was for the country. An underdog story for the ages. Western Australia did the impossible.

I just started listening to this song a little while back and I find it one of the best songs that i ever heard thank you Dire straits for recording this song
Others have done this as a fanvid before (there’s even an official music video made at the time), but your version rocks, and the VHS quality just makes it feel more authentic to 1983. Great job!
Thanks Zoe, glad you like it.
How well I remember this song and these photos as the Australian tender towed Australia II out to the course! A great day to be an Australian!

Watching this after Matilda’s win against France in the World Cup 2023.
This win is far far far more awesome than the Matilda’s semi final. This is the ultimate underdog moment !
@@user-gn2wp8wp2i totally agree!
Okay, this convinced me to get an ES15. Looks great, hope it helps me with digitizing my family videos that have pretty bad tearing. Thanks for the upload!
The ES15 menus are mostly self-explanatory. You may want to turn the noise reduction off: on the remote, hit the Display button. You can experiment with it but the general feeling is to leave it off, and deal with the noise in post-processing. More good stuff on the ES15-type boxes here: forum.videohelp.com/threads/403635-Panasonic-DVD-recorder-passthrough-settings-%28DMR-ES10-DMR-ES15-DMR-ES25%29
@@aaprods thanks for additional info. Do you know if using composite out from VCR and not s-video will make the quality much worse? Unfortunately, in my country it's very difficult to get a VCR with s-video out. We have SCART, but almost every model I managed to find available explicitly says in the manual, that it's doing composite over SCART, sadly. DVD/VCR combos also have s-video, but its for DVD mode only :(
@@TheSergeyJW Definitely not "much worse". Here are some comparisons. Note that I think the Dallas videos are Progressive, so deinterlacing has little effect. That car advert, though, is fully interlaced, so deinterlacing is effective. As you can see, there is a very slight improvement with S-video but not by much. There are some DVD-VCR combos that output S-Video from VHS: the ones I have are LG RC299, Pana ES35 and EZ48, Samsung Vr355 and Sanyo DX625, but if I had my time again, I'd go straight to VCRShop.com and buy a JVC SVHS VCR with inbuilt TBC such as a 7600. It depends entirely though on what you think about your current rig; if the video looks good (minus the tearing) and you're not a perfectionist :) !! stick with what you've got. One of my best VCRs is a little Composite-only LG GC-990. drive.google.com/file/d/1oaLLNBtMVoXg1BidkbUvb7bs8mwrQQZq/view?usp=sharing
@@aaprods The combos that you mention are the equivalent of connecting a VCR via composite to a DVD recorder and outputting S-Video. Only S-VHS VCRs internally use a Y/C signal path. (Check Service Manual diagrams for confirmation.)
@@videoextrication4138 I don't understand your point. Are you saying the output is effectively Composite through the S-Video port? In the case of the EZ48, outputting with S-Video is better. Have a look at the corner wall of the house, the wheel, the numberplate and the seta backs. imgsli.com/MTk5NTcy
