Snowpack & Recharge Update: Feb. 27, 2024

Watch the latest snowpack and recharge update with Paul Monroe, the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District's General Manager. Our water operators are working to widen the Schmidt Pit Diversion to increase the potential recharge at that site. And, our snowpack is ranging around 100-120% of normal, so there is still lots of water waiting to come down the mountain this spring. Stay tuned for more udpates!

In Utah, water rights are organized by basins. In Cedar Valley, we primarily use water from Basin 73 (Cedar City & Enoch) and Basin 81 (Kanarraville). The District and local partners are working to diversify water resources and utilize owned water rights in other basins. Cedar Valley faces many water challenges, including: a declining aquifer, drought, population growth, the State's Groundwater Management Plan that will reduce water rights, subsidence, and more. The District is working on solutions. One of those solutions is aquifer recharge. Since 2017, over 20,000 acre-feet have been saved through recharge.
