How do you get the plate or whatever
Hi 33, can you give a little more detail to your question? I'm not sure what you mean by the plate.
@ my bad I just wanted to know how do you Lino print
you carve a design into lino, you can buy lino and soft cut polymer sheets on amazon relatively cheap along with lino cutting tools. Once carved with a design, you use printing ink and a roller to ink the lino, then place a sheet of paper on top and press it down, or rub with the back of a spoon to transfer you design in ink to the paper! hope that helps!
@ what about money 💴 designs
You say at 3:03 that you are going to wash each color out as we got. What does it mean to 'wash each color out'?
To wash a colour out is a way to reduce the amount of pastel in the tooth of the paper by applying water with a paint brush to the pastel that is down and spreading it out in a thinner layer, like you would by doing a wash when using watercolour. Hope that helps!
Interesting. So the Ohuhu soft pastels are better Value For Money?
Hi Cg, it looks like it. 72 pack for both comes in at around £0.42 a pastel for Mont Marte and £0.35 a pastel for OHUHU with the pastels being the same size and around the same weight each.
I'm not sure this is a good idea. There may be Health and Safety issues with using foraged materials like soil as ingredients. There are also problems with lightfastness. I'll stick to my certified commercial pastels.
Hi cg, I am only foraging for materials which are common, won't hurt the ecosystem they come from, foraging sustainably, and are safe to handle at all stages. As for lightfastness, quite a lot of pigments in the commercial pastels are natural processed plants and minerals and have a known lightfastness rating once processed. It is always recommended regardless by framers to use UV protection glass when framing as if you look into it, all pastels on the market have different lightfastness and common colours from both sennelier and unison go as low as 3 stars out of 5. Mining of minerals and processing of chemicals to make synthetic pigments is dangerous, often using mines in Africa to get the resources. I'm hoping that a better, cleaner and more sustainable method of creating pastels is the way forward, you only have to look at hand crafters like earthberry to see a better way forward.
Just discovered your channel., and I love your work. You’re talented, and a good instructor; the music is annoying and not needed. It overshadows your calming vibes, and distracts from your awesome talent.
Thank you, there is a link in the description to an audio only version of this video without music!
It’s a beautiful piece! I was on an emotional roller coaster with each decision you made. 😅 I nearly jumped for joy when you ‘painted’ out the house.
Hi Jenni, thank you for the lovely comment. I know the cottage was in the photo but it just jarred so much with the landscape in the painting I was like, nope, must get rid! Wait till you see the next one!
I have never seen anyone paint with pastels before. What a great technique. 😊
Thank you so much 😀
😂
classic Scotland, 3 seconds of snow when it says its going to snow, then 1 ft of snow when it's not supposed to!
Use the padding from the box. Should be perfect. Great video!
Thanks for the tip!
Wunderbar, du redest wieder mit uns. 😊 Was macht die Erkältung?
Die Kälte kann dazu führen, dass die Pastellkreiden austrocknen und bröckeliger werden. Außerdem genieße ich es, beim Arbeiten meine Finger spüren zu können! :)
@@gingerramsden-artist Ginger, please excuse me for writing in German yesterday. It was already late and I was tired 🥱 I was happy to see the new video in which you talked again. That was not the case with this video ua-cam.com/video/veUZvCNrzT8/v-deo.htmlsi=3MmLxJ_DB7ciO3gp. Since you had a cold at the end of last year, I thought you had to rest your voice. I like your videos with your voice much better :)
I love oil painter-artist Daniel F. Gerhartz. He does wonderful snowy landscapes with such beautiful light. I'd so love to learn how to paint like him, only in pastel. Check out his work, see what you think. Thank you for sharing your technique with us.
Thanks Renee, 've seen his work and it is beautiful!
Very very beautiful!!! I fell in love for this painting! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much 😀
What pastels and colors are you using? I love how the pastels change when you add the alcohol spray.
Hi Lisa, my pastels live in big trays in colour and tone order so I have a photo up next to the painting in the video showing the final colours I used, they will be a mix of sennelier, unison and Rembrandt, hope that helps!
@gingerramsden-artist wonderful thanks so much. I have a set of pastels however, they don't include any of the colors your using. Oh, maybe two colors are in it. Again I appreciate your response. Have a beautiful day/evening 😊
Watching from SA
hope the weather is good there!
"For the sake of our sanity,I'll speed this up"😂
I know! I can't help myself!
Very pretty painting the colours are beautiful and relaxing thankyou
My pleasure 😊
Great!!
Thank you!
Sweet painting. Thank you for your demo! Perhaps in future you can find a way to steady your easel...it rocks in a most distracting way.
Thank you, I think it was actually the camera that was bouncing as I had it mounted to the easel, I've mostly sorted it for the rest of my videos!
I forgot it would be nice if the pastels you use were in the box beside your work and we could see you chose the one you using, just an idea.
I believe Marla and Susan both do this? I don't as I'd have to have a second camera and have it quite high up plus have loads of space next to the easel to hold the trays. I think sometimes people underestimate how big the trays are and mine are smaller then Marla's! If i have to have a camera so far up you wouldn't be able to actually see what I'm picking which is why i take a photo of the pastels I've used for people who want to follow along. Like every artist, I need a bigger studio! :)
Don’t blow on pastels tap them instead it’s dangerous.love your work.
Hi Malinda, I have a portable air extraction system which sucks in air through two HEPA filters. I have severe Asthma so have taken plenty of steps to ensure I'm not going to inhale coloured dust! I often work flat as well as on the easel so you can't always tap off dust. Hope that helps!
Excellent lesson, but the music is so distracting. Turning it down would be great.
Thank you, UA-cam don't let you change the audio once uploaded other than to remove the audio and replace with some of their music. Try playing the video on a different device, it seems to come out differently from TV, phone to computer for some reason! Hope that helps!
I really like your winter colors. That's a bit different than usual :)
inspired from an old photo from the area which had slightly yellowed with age so gave this beautiful warm tones!
@@gingerramsden-artist yes, really a wonderful idea. Everyone can do blue and purple 😉😉 in winter landscape
lol, wonder why no one uses greens............. :P
@@gingerramsden-artist 🤣
Ginger, that's frameworthy It came out well in the end
@brendarudman8806 was a bit of a battle but got there in the end!
Looking good 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
I need to learn to do textured surfaces I must fight the urge to smooth everything
Very nice which brands of pastel are you using, thank you
Hi Michael, It's a mixture of Unison, Sennelier, Rembrandt and Nu Pastel
Thank you
Hello Ginger Greetings from SA What mediums do you all use? How do you keep your chalk pastel creations from
Hi Brenda! I use a mix of different brands of pastels, unison, sennelier and blue earth for my softest pastels, Rembrandt as my medium hard pastels, and Nu and Conte for my hardest pastels for fine mark making and details. I also use water or rubbing alcohol for under paintings and sometimes acrylic ink if i want something vibrant. With regards to keeping my work from smudging or getting over everything, i will sometimes use a light coating of fixative but that can darken your painting, I always prefer to get finished 'selling' paintings behind glass as a priority and any paintings going into storage draws just get a layer of glassine between. Hope that helps! G
It's too far away I so like looking at photos of Scottish countryside Very rare in paintings
Scotlands weather and ruggedness can make it difficult to paint it :) but it's the wild side that attracts me in the first place!
stop the music, very distracting
Hi Mary, some people like the music, however as per my other comments and in the description, i have created an audio only version which is linked in the description for this video.
Very informative and helpful videos! I’m looking forward to what happens in 2025…your chart is very cool! Your plans are exciting yet realistic…❤ Happy New Year to you! 🇨🇦
Happy new year!
Dear Ginger, I'm glad I found you and your channel last year. How wonderful to look back at your work in 2024. I had to smile at your self-description: planning and creative minds. I'm telling you now that you can please be relaxed with yourself if one or the other project doesn't really work out. I know what I'm talking about. I often make great plans - and then life gets in the way. Sketching outside is enough in my opinion. Don't make it even harder for yourself by recording videos. I also really like your painting from reference photos! I'm particularly looking forward to your flower demos. I'm currently struggling with petals that are slightly bent. I just can't get the perspective right. That's why I'm eagerly awaiting your entertaining step-by-step tutorials. Your videos put a smile on my soul and distract me from this crazy world. All the best and lots of passion for your projects this year. I will happily accompany you :)
Thank you so much Claudia for your kind words!, I'm looking forward to everyone joining me on my journey, the good, the bad and the furry!
I love your channel, I'm looking forward to a new year of tutorials. My VERY FAVORITE thing that you do is to show the pastels you are using, on-screen, all the time! This is enormously helpful and appreciated.
That's exactly what I find so valuable
Thank you both, I know it's been commented on by several people over the year and I'm glad everyone finds it useful!
Great video! Thank you.
Thank you ! 😀
Love a good old mind map!💕 I must have been very good last year as I've received a set of pastels for Christmas - never tried them before but discovered your channel so I'm well chuffed with your lovely art & demo's.... NY Hugs. x
Have fun and if you need any help, just ask!
@ Awwww, thanks muchly👍🏼
Your music is very distracting and irritating.
@dariabuczynski9711 Hi Daria, some people don't mind it, however as per my pinned comment there is a link to the voice only very in this videos description
Hey Ginger! You have an awesome channel and I'm so lucky UA-cam recommended your videos to me. I'm really surprised you have so little views and likes but I hope that will change in 2025. Keep on making art!
Thank you! Will do!
Wonderful work!
Thank you!
Beautiful work and I love your video layout with the pastels showing. :). Keep it up Ginger!
Thank you! Will do!
You must have read my mind yesterday, I was thinking of pulling out my photos of Queen Anne's Lace and chicory to paint!
We call the less fancy cow parsley here, no idea why as its such a pretty plant and grows along all the roadways
I've created an improved audio version of this video as linked in the description above or on the info card at the start of the video! hope that helps!
I muted the sound and turned on closed caption to solve the loud music problem
I've uploaded a new version of this with better audio. The link is in the description. I hope that helps!
Thank you! I just ordered these on Amazon and I'm looking forward to trying them. Your painting is beautiful. 💖💖
Have fun!
I wish You happy Holidays and above all: get well soon. 🧡
getting there slowly! Happy Holidays!
Beautiful painting! I didn’t know you could use water with them. Thank you for the review and demonstration.
My pleasure 😊 Let me know if you have any other questions about them!
Greens and browns are my favorite. I tried sorting my pastels in trays, but ended up putting them back in their original boxes. I still have a love/hate with soft pastels as I hate the mess and not really having a way to keep the paintings from accidental smearing on the edges. Love seeing you swatch your pastels.
smudging is a general problem with a medium you can't fully fix. You can try fixative/ I use masking tape on all my edges so it matters less if you have accidents, plus once a piece is behind a mount you can hide a lot of sins! Honestly, I only do this twice a year as i would drive me mad trying to keep them always in order in the trays!
Ist very nice and cute. Thank You, Ginger and have a peaceful Holiday. 🎄🎄
Thank you! You too!
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Will you be hosting a Christmas giveaway this year like you did last year?
Hi cg, no not this year. I'm still pretty ill so haven't been able to paint much so wouldn't want to offer anything i wasn't happy with for a give away. Hopefully will do something in the spring which is part of a special project in the new year though!
I can highly recommend Tundra Violet!
I would have taken them all if I had the budget!
