    The secret to the slice backhand is inside spin. The slice is assumed because of the high backswing and continental grip. The feel in the ball is inside spin not slice. Slice sits; sides ping corkscrews. Your takeaway is too wrapped around you and causes you to move outside on the ball. The takeaway need to be to the outside of the ball. The strike is pulling in for fade sidespin and as much forward as you desire for depth.

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt 2 дні тому

      I don't quite understand what you mean? Yes you can also hit the backhand slice inside out so the ball spins more to the left if you are right handed like Federer did. I use that as well, but only on lower balls. It's difficult to do that on higher balls. You can make contact on the outside, underneath or on the inside of the ball, depending on what you want the ball to do and where you want the ball to land. If think thats more fore higher level players.

    I'm not sure I follow the purpose of the drill. When you get a ball in the middle, wouldn't you want to hurt your opponent by making them run or pounding it to their weaker wing? I have done the X-drill but it was using the whole court. The way you demonstrated looks like a great way to groove your strokes and a lot less running but the strategy seems odd.

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt 3 дні тому

      When you hit further out to the side you will open up the court. However if you keep it deep in the middle, your opponent won't get any angles and you don't have to run that much. If your opponent looses depth on the ball, you can step into the court and open up the court. Watch Sinner, Djokovic and Alcarez doing this tactic most of the time. Hitting a deep neutral return to the middle, and the opponent has to answer with a deep ball back in the middle since they won't have any angles.

      @@broddfelt Thanks for the explanation. I play mainly doubles... and in singles, usually S&V so I am learning Groundstroke patterns. In a match, are you hitting the X pattern within the imagined box or focusing on their weaker wing? If they run around a BH and hit a shot to the corner, is your response going to be back to the middle box or back crosscourt (both shots obviously hit deep)?

    What sort of finish do you do in doubles when it's the typical 1 up 1 back position for both sides?

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt 3 дні тому

      You should do your regular finish, around your shoulder area. If you are using western grip, biceps. Most of the time the finish will happen naturally, depending on the racket speed and your position on the court.

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt 10 днів тому

      Yes I remember those percentages as well from the biomechanics books. And that is when you shift the weight from the back leg to the front when going up. So that is why it’s so important to load the back leg first. Watch Dr Kovacs and he explains this perfectly.

    • @foxyonthrottle690
      @foxyonthrottle690 10 днів тому

      @@broddfeltby loading for me it means that you get the body ready to explode and when you ready to explode then we have 70/30 . Rocking back and forth is what a lot of trainers ask but that’s not loading but bringing the body in the loaded position . My opinion

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt 10 днів тому

      I’m not saying rocking back and forth. In the trophy position you want to load on your back leg. Then the weight will shift directly more on the front foot and even more when you jump off the court.

    The kick serve is not the Holy grail that these coaches make it out to be. It's not some unattainable shot that only few possess. Just like any shot in tennis or anything else for that matter all it takes is practice. One doesn't need to have a great kick or topspin serve to be successful at any level of tennis. The most important aspect of serving is accuracy and variety of placement. I just don't get why so much video time is devoted to this one type of serve.

    • @broddfelt
      @broddfelt Місяць тому

      @@capricornmagic63 I kind of agree. But I think it’s good to know the concept of hitting topspin to get greater clearance over the net. Today most players hit it with combination with slice serve so the can get more power. Like you said variation in pace and placement is the key to a good serve. Sometimes you want the ball to kick up a little higher into their backhand or if you want to play serve and volley you will have better time to get to the net. It’s not a must, but on the second serve you want to have some kind of spin on the serve to get greater margin or bigger window to aim.

I recently started to play again after many, many years, and unfortunately triggered my tennis elbow while practicing serving. I’ve seen many videos explaining the process but I yet to find good videos of exercises that can be done at a gym, and/or at home to strengthen the muscles, and the movements used while playing tennis, same for stretching videos (with just focus on tennis) …just throwing that idea out there! 😅😊 In my youth, and still today you see coaches preparing the kids with proper warm-ups, and stretch at the end. But now in my late 40’s -adult clinics skip the whole thing and go straight to “tennis moves warm up” on the court without given the body a little bit of let’s get ready to hit some balls.
