    Great video - thanks! I have a 1979 230 C (Coupe, carb). Had the sparks changed recently. Purchased the sparks from a main dealer (Boshe). Since then, every now and then, when coming to a stop and at idle, car wobbles a little (almost like it skips a beat). Doesn't always happens and seems to drive without issue. I have a feeling either the sparks aren't gapped properly, or maybe the leads need changing out. I can't for a life of me find correct gap sizing online (or on any sticker on car). Not sure if you've worked on these non injected cars and whether you think i should be checking elsewhere. I have also recently purchased the dizzy cap and rotor arm too which i plan to change (not sure when last done)..

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 2 роки тому

      Unfortunately I have not worked on those cars, so I cannot confirm what the plug gap should be. However, if the problem only started when the plugs were changed, I would focus on the spark plugs first. If they are indeed the correct plug, then the gap could be an issue if it isn’t set correctly. I would consider measuring the gap they currently have and compare it to info in the video I posted. Adjust the gap if necessary. If it makes no difference, then put it back to the gap they were before.

    Hi, this is Eden from Hong Kong I am driving W124 230E I have a question, please help if this is ok Hong Kong is warm place, when cold start, under 60 degree for long time, it takes more than 20 minutes to reach 80 I saw your video, that is easily come to 7x I suspect my thermostat is either stick open or stuck half open Do you think this seems to be a problem? And what is the working temperature? How long should it take to normal temperature? Thanks

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 2 роки тому

      Great to hear from you. Sounds to me like you are on the right path. I would suspect a faulty thermostat as well. Would be worthwhile to replace your coolant at the same time as your thermostat. My car also took forever to warm up. Warm up can vary depending on how you drive or leave it idling. It shouldn’t take too long if the engine is under load, provided you aren’t in a cold climate like you said. I replaced the original thermostat with a new one rated for the same 87 degree Celsius temperature.

    It's a good idea to use the special tool to remove the spark plug leads to prevent the wire separating from the boot.

  • @hugocortez7819
    @hugocortez7819 2 роки тому

    Excelent information! I have a question about the order of ignition wires. There is the numbers 1 3 4 2. So, we have to match the number of each wire with the number in the distribuitor? Can you explain that please?

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 2 роки тому

      Yes very important and that number is the firing order of the engine. As the distributor rotates, the rotor spins under the cap which allows the ignition coil to discharge though the plug wire to the spark plug in a cylinder. If your plug wires are not connected in proper order, the engine will misfire because the spark plug(s) will fire at the wrong time in the engine cycle. The engine wouldn’t run well or even run at all. If you’re replacing plug wires and haven’t done it before, I recommend only replacing one at a time to avoid getting them mixed up.

    Great informative video, thanks! An oil pressure question. I have an ‘83 230ce so same engine as the car in your video. My pressure reader on the dash reads about 0.5 bar while the engine is idling and only gets to about 2 bar ever otherwise but generally stays around 1/1.5 bar for standard city driving. Is this normal?

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 3 роки тому

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 3 роки тому

      I use eBay to find the stuff I need. Its a great resource if you use it discerningly. I double check the part numbers I purchase with those posted in forums. In my situation, I live in Canada with a European imported car, so this seems to be the best option. But I’m not looking for used or knock-off parts, all maintenance items I purchase come from European sellers. As an example, all of my oil filters typically come from Latvia. My transmission filter and gasket was shipped from Germany. My thermostat cam from Britain. Prices are still reasonable if you take your time to read through the information.

    Why you use oil for diesel engines in petrol engine????

    • @DyleupWestburn
      @DyleupWestburn 3 роки тому

      I did my research on the recommended oil weight and it varies in between 5w-40 to 15w40 depending on climate. I only drive it in warm weather and it’s a high mileage engine so I prefer a thicker oil. Yes it has a gasoline engine and it coincidentally shares the same oil weight as many Diesel engines.

      @booobies11111 2 роки тому

      I wondered the same thing. I use Rotella t4 in my motorcycle that shares the wet basket clutch with the engine. I use Rotella t4 because it does not have friction modifiers. For a gasoline engine you would want these additives. I would recommend Liqui Moly 2043 with m0s2 friction modifier. Works wonders for the old m102 engines.
