    If your blueberries are frozen, do you still coat them in the flour? Also, is the sourdough straight from the fridge or do I have to fed and activate it?

    Should try split bamboo brushes. They make cleaning cast iron so much easier. And lard is the best seasoning I’ve found for keeping any cast iron utensil. Great video. Thanks for the info.

    I’ve been obsessed with “ sourdough” since January. I’ve watched 100’s of videos. My loaves of bread are perfect and I’ve started looking for other things to make. That’s how I found you and subscribed. I made these cookies yesterday (they are my g’granddaughter’s favorite) and they were so-o-o delicious. My husband also said they were better than regular recipe. They will be my “go to” recipe from now on. Today I’m going to try scones. Thank you so much for the easy to follow videos and the written recipes. I appreciate the time and effort.

    The shiny black patina will peel off, so I don't like to do it. It takes low and slow to get oil/fat to soak in and bond with the metal.

    If you layer the bottom with sticks, tree bark, pine cones/needles, leaves, shredded paper, kitchen scraps, etc. it will break down over time and feed your garden, bit it will also save you TON$$$$. I use same mixture as you but I also add some perlite, mushroom compost, and top soil. I started throwing in some dry rolled oats and sugar too because I saw some posts of a couple different people adding one or the other in when planting seedlings. Seems to be growing nice plants.

    Do you water bath or do anything else with the jars to preserve the herbs or do you just close them up tight and store them in a cool dark place until needed? This is what I was confused about

    I bought an electric one 3 months ago, and the top doesn't heat so I have to flip my waffles half way through. Looking for a cast iron one locally is hard, but I'll keep my eye out

    I just subscribed, I have lots of mason Jar kind of storage. I like the tin can storage.. that is nice. It keeps things rotated. That is one thing I am always a concerned about . < something gets really low, I dump it in to a separate, sized to fit the goods jar and clean the large jar and not put fresh on top of old. I feel rotating things is paramount.

    This video is over two years old, but I'll ask a question anyway. I just started trying to make kefir and I checked it after 20 hours and it did not thicken and it stinks really sour smell so maybe I did something wrong. I took the kefir grains out and put them in a fresh cup of milk??

      Hello, the kefir shouldn't smell bad. How did it go after you put the kefir grains in fresh milk? Did it thicken and smell better? If not, I would ask you some other questions like if you used raw milk (the milk needs to be pasteurized when activating your grains for the first time), what temperature your kitchen is (if it's below 68 F it may be too cold to ferment properly), and where you sourced your kefir grains from.

It smelled really bad the first 24-hour check, but I did not want to throw away the grains, so I decided to use a fresh cup of milk and check the next day. It still smelled bad but not as much and the milk stayed the same. It's day three and I just checked it, and the milk has thickened almost like cream and the smell is there but it's not strong anymore and it smells like cheddar cheese. So, I think it going to work?

    I’ve seasoned it this way but just can’t get it right still; I oil both sides very well prior to pouring and preheat it. But the waffle in the center keeps sticking so when I open it the whole thing splits into two. 😢It’s discouraging. I thought maybe I should leave it longer? But then I could see the sides that did come off were dark and very cooked already. I’ll try a lower heat and longer but if someone could please help, let me know. Thanks so much!

      I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. How many times did you season your waffle iron? It should have a hard, glossy finish when it's completely seasoned and ready to use. If your pan has been seasoned properly, I would say to try cooking it at a lower temperature for a longer time. Please let me know how it goes.
