The late chief grandmaster Rico guy was not a student of the late grandmaster Peter urban in go Ju ryu karate, he trained in the go Ju system under Chris de Bazi and Joe Lamonte out of Staten Island. His original and first martial art that he trained in was combat judo under the late grandmaster Billy Davis. Then he went under a man by the name of Conrad in the ishin ryu karate system and then unto go ju ryu system. He went over to the nisei go Ju system under the late grandmaster frank ruiz and Harry Rosenberg and the late Owen Watson. The school was originally called the university of the streets down in the east village. Then he left and eventually opened his own school in 1974 on 14th street called the, “ U.S. Budo Kaikan” which is still there today. The oldest karate school in manhattan. Around that time 1973/74 he was teaching out of the Japan cultural center on 13th street where he met yoshiteru otani and started to learn the iaido and kendo systems and trained under otani sensei for 15 years. He also went up in ranking under otani sensei in judo and kempo which he already had a black belt in since 1969. I know so much more about this man who I first met and started training under back in 1993-95,2007-2009 in combat judo and kempo, or in his own eclectic system called , “go kempo jitsu”.

i think calling it martial arts is fitting, because it's not really applicable to professional fighting or real life fighting. It's like going to a painting class on fridays.

i'm confused cause none of this works at all without a partner playing along. A novice boxer/grappler would just run right through you. If it's just supposed to be a dance or art type of thing I get it, but this is straight up kung fu brother.
