A collection of my favourite on pianos i have played over the years, whether or not owned by me.. Not perfect playing, and neither are they professionally recorded, but hopefully gives an adequate impression of the differences in tonal character between the various pianos. Message me if you find the instruments interesting

@@gabi.coroian thank you!
I like this recording better than the other Zen Quadro recording (the other one was clipping a bit on the right channel) - great piece, man! :)
Sounds great, man! :)
This is really good! ❤
Thanks very much! Hope to record it with a better set up and no flubs!
This piano responds very well to an artist such as yourself who understands that a sensitive touch is as important to virtuosic playing as bravura passages. Compared to your performance of this same piece on your Steinway D, the notes in the upper two octaves came through beautifully and cleanly. You created an extended decrescendo in the last few bars that ended in a true, ppp final chord. In fact, I don't think you played louder than forte in the whole piece, but you still had more gradations of tone than most pianists produce in this music. Exquisite!
@@garrettglass348 Thanks so much for your detailed comments and kind words!
Most sensitive interpretation.👏👏👏
Many thanks!

Did I see a video somewhere of you playing a Chopin etude? Can't find it now for some reason. Is that model D your piano ? That's a dream :-)

How much this super king of piano ? 😊
@@musiclove5908 no idea..
How would you differentiate the Shigeru Kawai’s tone from Saüter and Fazioli?
@@hastensavoir7782 night and day. Shigeru is warm and velvety, at the expense of some clairity. Both Sauter and Fazioli are very projecting, and have stronger fundamental tone
@@weizhengkit3953 which Piano brand would you say has a combination of both Velvety quality and Clarity of Projection?
@@hastensavoir7782 Velvety is partly a function of voicing and/or choice of hammers, although the inherent structural characteristics of the soundboard etc are important. I think my Sauter is inherently projecting and clear, but i have customized it for a more velvety (some say muffled) attack
@@weizhengkit3953 closer in quality to a Steinway would you say?
Beautifully performed. And the S3x Sounds wonderful
Thanks!
Curious: how does it compare to your Sauter??
Well the Sauter is at least 50% more expensive when new, plus we are comparing a new showroom piano vs a used home instrument (albeit well maintained), and the acoustics of the showroom and the home are also quite different. So its hard to make an apples to apples comparison Nonetheless, fwiw, the S3X has an incredibly full bodied tone for a 6 foot instrument, especially in the bass and mid range. This is particularly evident when comparing side by side with the C3x (which is almost half the price). How much is due to the ARE rim vs the placement of the S3X in a corner is hard to tell though. Compared to the Sauter, i would say the full bodied resonance of the S3X matches up well. Also the general warm mellow tone signature of the S3X is a stark contrast to the bright, sparkly stereotype of Yamahas, especially the CX series. A mellower attack, combined with the more complex tonal colours from ARE appeal to me. My Sauter is voiced on the mellower side to suit my style and repertoire, with a different kind of tonal colour/complexity from the S3X - more 'pure' and silvery perhaps, if you will Where i clearly prefer the Sauter is in the bloom and sustain in octave 5, which makes it just so much easier to bring out melodic lines without having to dig too deep in the keys. I noticed the emphasis on treble bloom is quite uniform across top tier german makes. Warmth notwithstanding, the S3X could bloom more in the treble. Without sufficient bloom, bringing out melodic notes requires a more conscious effort to play those notes louder, which then risks digging too deep into the keys and unintentionally producing a more percussive tone. I'm not sure if all of that makes sense to you
@@weizhengkit3953 it does indeed. Thank you for the very thoughtful reply. I am very fond of Sauter instruments and have met Ulrich Sauter. In fact at one time I worked for the North American distributor. I would love to own either instrument myself. Especially if I could perform as well as you. 👍
@@thomasg321 thanks for the kind words! Sauter is indeed a unique and very underrated make of the highest quality imo, comparable (if not better) than the better known Steinway, Bechstein etc in build quality. Whether one likes their signature tone is a matter of taste. My own Sauter has been customized to my specific taste with heavier and softer Abels, so it might not be representative of what one gets straight out of the factory
amazing

Nice. How's your progress?
Really going well. Love your tone and pedalling.
Thanks much for your kind words!
Awesome practice insight! This will work wonderfully 🤩
Thanks. Need more slow practice to nail those octave jumps
Wow! What a great interpretation and performance. Excellent dynamic control and hand movement. Your performance is beautiful to watch as well as to listen to! :-) I really enjoy my N1X but appreciate the N3X. It's nice to "feel" the vibration of the piano through the keys, I expect, more than one does with the N1X. I imagine this was recorded using the line out on the piano.
Thanks for the kind words. I actually recorded this using a Zoom Q8
I love Debussy‘s Sarabande - you took the time to listen into all the harmonies! It was a delight listening to you ✨
Yes, the harmonies are very special, and really illuminate the sombre, poignant nature of this piece. Some wrong notes in this take though, which is why i did not post it earlier.
🎉nice
Thank you!
Bravo! Great interpretation 👏👏
Thank you for your kind words!
I love this Sarabande!! You played with the perfect rubato! Wonderful rendition 👏🏻
Thanks very much! This is quite a bit faster than my previous recording, but with nore rubato. Personally i think a slower basic tempo adds to the emotional intensity, but can be harder to pull off without sounding static. Still experiementing with different approaches to see what works best
@@weizhengkit3953 I also think a slower tempo adds to the intensity of sound. It’s more „listening“ to those colored sounds than „playing“. 😎
@@pianothingsmusic very well put! Of all the slow versions, i found those by Mikhail Pletnev, Thibaudet and Lilya Zilberstein most convincing. Will you be recording this anytime soon?
what a beautiful Steinway A
Thanks! Not my piano, but beautiful sound isn't it?
@@weizhengkit3953 can I ask you a question? I am buying my first grand piano and deciding between Shigeru SK3 (6’3”) and Kawai GX7 (7’6”). It’s for use at home. The SK is more refine but the GX7 has more power. Which one would you pick and why? Thank you.
@@Classical416 it really depends on your playing style and priorities. For me, refinement is always the priority given my choice of repertoire, but having power in reserve is a bonus. But if you play mostly louder music, the reverse might be true. Of course the Sk7 would fulfil both criteria!
@@weizhengkit3953 the SK7 is too expensive for me. I wish I have an unlimited budget. I think I will go with SK3. It’s still a decent size for home use. My thinking is that for my music room at home I will always appreciate refinement. But I don’t always need the loudest and deepest bass as I am not playing huge concertos with an orchestra at home.
@@Classical416 That is probably correct. All else being equal i always prefer the larger instrument as one gets a bigger range ajd more control, but all else is seldom equal and space/budget is often the biggest constraint. If like me, you play mostly softer music at home, then refinement would probably be a bigger priority.
beautiful performance
Thank you very much!
Absolutely stunning
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Ayo, De-WHAT NOW
How good is n3x if compared acoustic grand piano similar price Is it worth it ? in your opinion thank.
I would prefer N3X to the vast majority of uprights because of the touch and lack of maintenance. Great for repetitive practice to learn the note with a more than decent expressivr capability. But obviously it cam't be compared to a good grand like the Sauter in terms of range of dynamics and colours, and the 'spaciousness' of the sound that can only come from a soundboard, not speakers. Still, not having to tune or voice it is a big plus that should not be easily discounted, especially in the long run.
