It's a nice walk along the towpath from Tapton to Stavely. At Staveley, you can get a bus back to Chesterfield. We don't find that sharing the path with cycles is a problem. They're generally respectful of other users and warn you if they're coming from behind. We found that the real problem is runners. They expect you to move over, and if we two walkers are walking side-by-side, they won't even deviate from their very important and urgent quest to get from S to T as fast as possible. We found that the best tactic is to walk hand-in-hand on the side of the path away from the canal and take the same unyielding strategy, thereby causing the runner to change direction at the last moment and use what's left of the path between us an the water rather than vice-versa. No-ones fallen in yet. If they're coming from behind, again, that's their problem.

I've seen this stretch on many vlogs but everyone's journey is unique and special! Thank you for sharing❤!

We quite often walk the towpath from Fradley Junction to where the A38 crosses over the canal. If you're ever this way again and see a black and white and a black grreyhound with 2 hoomans attached....that's us !
