Data set link sir
Hi there. I have used this data set: fromzero2bihero.ck.page/26d7ecedbf
Great one thanks
Thak you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it
Regarding "Leap Years", is this calculation right or wrong? or Should we take in account ony this video : ua-cam.com/video/wdNIEn50J8c/v-deo.html ... ?
Hello. You should consider the one in the second video. I have realised that I've not considered the leap years a little bit too late, but if you use the one in YoY video it should work perfectly.
Thanks 😊 it's clear now
Nice job. But what if you have a tie
Hi and thank you for you patience. I have finally had a chance to look at that now and the measure shown in the video will concatenate all Companies into one line. The downside is that it will calculate the sales for all of those companies. Having said that, chances are very slim that in the top 3 to top 5 you would have a tie (at least is did not happened to me in a real life scenario yet). But yes, if you decide to use this visual, you need to take in consideration this aspect as well.
How to take data's give some tips bro😊
Hello, what do you mean by that?
Good video, have been playing with this too. I'm not sure if I missed a section but how did you get the relstionship from the search_dim to the company_fact to be many to one?
Thank you. I believe it was because I was dragging the ID from the dimSearch to the ID from dimCompany. But it makes no difference if you do it the other way. Many-to-One would be the same as One-to-Many if you change the tables order in the relationship.
brilliant
Thank you very much!
Great content. Can you please tell me where did you get the backgroung image for the card?
Thank You. The background is something was created in Power Point and then exported as SVG. This is how I create my background for the minute.
Sir how to get job using linkedin pls tell some tips
Hello. My last job hunting was a while ago (more than 8 years to be precise) so I won't say that I know 100% what you need to do. Having said that, here is what I would do if I would hunt for a job: 1. I would create myself a portfolio of reports (2-3 reports) on various themes. Maybe one sales, one hr and one financial. 2. I would find recruiters and/or companies that are active on the BI market and contact them. 3. Instead of sending them a CV or a cover letter, I would actually send them these report, as they would (in my opinion) have a greater impact. They would showcase my skills better than a CV. 4. I would not give up :) I hope this helps, and again, I would not consider this the absolute truth and the only way to "attack" this situation.
Hi bro
Hello. What's up?
Must admit I have always seen PowerBI as an app for a tablet or iPad. Users using these devices hate typing on them and would prefer normal drop down list to quickly select with a pen or finger. Just my opinion.
I appreciate that, and I do believe as well that the biggest advantage of Power BI is that it can be consumed on the go. That's why I believe this option should be used in conjunction with the "regular" slicers. For example, in all of my reports now I have the regular slicer panel and I have added this option as well. And now it's up to the user to choose which option suits best for the situation. Let me give you an example: if one of our sales manager would like to use a drop down and filter through 4k customers, then that is a task in itself. On the other hand if they can type the name of the customer, then it is a lot easier. On the same type of scenario, if they want to filter by areas, then it's a lot easier to use the slicer as there are less options to go through.
Nice video! :) P.S. Maybe it is better to reference the company table, since you're using its last stage anyway.
Thank you. In the company table I don't have a single column containing all the information I want to search for. Only individual columns for various dimensions. That is why I had to create a separate table.
When there will be the update We dont have such kind of slicer
I have installed it on 13th of November. If you need to, please download and reinstall the latest version and, in the preview section in the options and settings, enable the text slicer preview.
Muito bom ! #powerbinareal
You are genius 😎
Thank you very much!
Excellent !! Thank you
You're welcome 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This video is Super Dope! Really appreciate you sharing these insights...
I'm glad you enjoyed it! There's a new video coming in about 2 hours on the new text slicer that I have a feeling you might like aswell 😀
Thank You Bro
You're welcome!
Great video appreciate your efforts but i have one doubt if you take year as 365 days hadcoded in that case during leapyear year consist of 366 days in that case one days sales data would be missing and would give incorrect sales sums
You are correct, and I've changed the calculation for the YoY calculation video, using the DATE function and adding or subtracting one year.
@MMS-PowerBI could you please share the code?
@@souravkarmakar7601 Yes,, Please provide the code.
Thank you. It would also be helpful to show the dax measures that were used
Thank you, and I hope these visuals will help you. I will put together a video with the measures that I used and post it out soon.
The weekend schedule changed for me, so, instead of a video I've made a post with the measures I've used. Please follow this link to see the measures: ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGIj1mP0znXM9PZgvqO5G1_CmiGL4qR36
Thanks, very interesting options.
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked them and I hope they will be usefull to you!
This very helpful. Can you provide the data Stelian.
I am glad this is helpful. Here is the data set: fromzero2bihero.kit.com/accessfreefile. You can play around with the dates and so on. In theory, whereever I publish a video about sales I will use this data set (with small changes here and there)
I'm trying to follow your example to create MTD, QTD, and YTD measures, but I want to do this without depending on a selected date, such as a visual or report page slicer. I'm using the extended calendar table you recommended from Melissa de Korte, which fully covers my factSales data. The factSales[Ship Date] ranges from January 3, 2023, to November 1, 2024. My current year (CY) YTD calculation works correctly. However, my last year (LY) YTD value is incorrect because it calculates the entire 2023 instead of sales up to November 1, 2023. I need both periods to align in the same way for an accurate comparison. Any help would be appreciated sir!
If you are not using any slicers, then you can use the offsets for year, month and quarter. If you calendar table ends with the last date where you have sales, then here is an idea for the year: YoY = VAR _MIN_DATE = CALCULATE(MIN('DATE TABLE'[DATE]), 'DATE TABLE'[CurrYearOffset] = -1) VAR _MAX_DATE = CALCULATE(MAX('DATE TABLE'[Date]), 'DATE TABLE'[CurrYearOffset] = 0) VAR _SALES_CY = CALCULATE(SUM(SALES[LINE VALUE]), 'DATE TABLE'[Date] >= DATE(YEAR(_MIN_DATE)+1, MONTH(_MIN_DATE), DAY(_MIN_DATE)), 'DATE TABLE'[Date] <= _MAX_DATE) VAR _SALES_LY = CALCULATE(SUM(SALES[LINE VALUE]), 'DATE TABLE'[Date] >= _MIN_DATE, 'DATE TABLE'[Date] <= DATE(YEAR(_MAX_DATE)-1, MONTH(_MAX_DATE), DAY(_MAX_DATE))) RETURN DIVIDE(_SALES_CY - _SALES_LY, _SALES_LY) This will only work for current year as in 2024. The min dates look like this: for the month to date VAR _MIN_DATE = CALCULATE(MIN('DATE TABLE'[DATE]), 'DATE TABLE'[CurrYearOffset] = -1, 'DATE TABLE'[Month] = MONTH(today())) for the quarter to date CALCULATE(MIN('DATE TABLE'[DATE]), 'DATE TABLE'[CurrYearOffset] = -1, 'DATE TABLE'[Quarter Number] = QUARTER(TODAY()))
@@MMS-PowerBI Thank you, very helpful
Hi, do you have a video on how you created this dashboard with all the charts in it?
Not yet. This is something that I think about filming, but I could not find the neccessary time. I will make one, but I can't promise exactly when :).
Hi Stelian, your measures reference [Total Sales], can you show the DAX for it?
When I have that measure name, I always use SUM([column to be added]), with no added filters. Otherwise, I change the measure name to describe what it does, just in case somebody else will work on the report in the future.
@ thank you
Excellent Stelian. I am tasked with building a dashboard for my organization and will implement your ideas.
I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that you want to use some of these "tips". You have made my week. (maybe even my year :) ) Thank you very much.
@@MMS-PowerBI You are welcome sir! I’ll be adopting the incredible solution you outlined in your three KPIs and one visual video (supercharged line chart). I’ll need to rewatch your videos a few times to adapt it fully to my situation. You’re an excellent presenter-methodical, logical, and thorough in your explanations. Thank you!
brilliant thank you very much, Stelian
You're very welcome!
Stelian, would you be able to transition the total sales line to a forecasted sales line?
excellent video
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it!
@@MMS-PowerBI Would you consider creating a video on designing dashboards that effectively communicate sales performance to upper management? The focus would be on maximizing storytelling through data visualization.
Very useful in a lot of cases 👌
Thank you. It's just another way that information can be added, and sometimes a few words are better than a graph.
Thank you! Are there other types of data model schemas, such as hybrids, for example?
Other than Flat Schema, Star Schema and Snowflake Schema, the two most common are: Relational schema. In a relational database schema, each object is assigned its table, and these tables all connect to each other. Hierarchical schema. In this schema, one root table connects to multiple child tables where each child has exactly one parent. Now, bear in mind that I don't think you will ever need these two in Power BI.
Love that most of your tutorials are intermediate/advanced level 👌
Happy to hear that!
Do you have this data set so I can “play along?”
Hi there and thank you for watching the video. Here is a link from where you can download the excel file: fromzero2bihero.ck.page/dc4ab94aa6 It will require a subscription to the newsletter and I promise I won't bombard you with emails :) (as a matter a fact so far I have not sent a single email)
Using 365 as a number of days value is giving me an error 😂 Beside that, isn't it easier using sameperiodlastyear? What is different from using: var filteredyearsales = SUM(Sales[lineValue]) var yearbeforesales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[lineValue]), SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR('Date Table'[date])) To get the values? Maybe it's late and I don't get it 😅
Hi there. I usually consider YoY growth only on the same period of both years. So, let's consider this scenario: 1. The previous year records start on 1st of July and the current year ends today, 23rd of October. 2. Total sales PY = 1.11M (01/07/23 to 31/12/2023) (calculated using SAMEPERIODLASYEAR), Total sales CY = 3.21M (01/01/24 to 23/10/24). Your 188.49% YoY growth in this case is incorrect, because the two periods are not the same. There is the period between 1/01 to 01/07 where there is no data in '23 but there is in '24, and there is the period between 24/10 and 31/12 where there is data in '23 but not in '24. And that's why I calculate the minimum date of 01/07 for both years and the maximum date of 23/10 for both years. In this case the total sales would look like Total sales PY = 1.05M Total sales CY = 1.16M (01/01/24 to 23/10/24), returning the 10.24% YoY growth. I hope this answers your question. Anyway, please let me know if you think there is something wrong with my logic, because at the end of the day I might be wrong myself :)
@@MMS-PowerBI ah, I understand! Thanks for the explanation
@@MMS-PowerBI Hi, how can we account for years with 366 days in the measure? I’d really appreciate your feedback.
I have realised this whilst recording the next weeks video, because I was looking at 29th of February 2024 in my date table :). So I will change my calculation by using the date function. Anyway, I hope that on this Thursday I'll be able to publish a video that explains why I calculate my YoY% like that.
Brilliant thank you
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing 👏 I learned a lot 🙏
I'm so glad I could help you!
Very useful! Thanks 👌
Glad it was helpful!
Hi there, I could not spot the sales target in the access data set you provide. Also I had to calculate the date table. It is a good exercise but I cannot advance as fast as I hoped. But thank you very much for your fantastic tutorials.
First of all thank you for watching the tutorial. The dataset is something I created a while ago and it did not have a target table, but I believed that is a very good way of using the "Enter data" feature. As for the date table, if you need a comprehensive one, you can find out how to get the code for the one I use here: ua-cam.com/video/7qaIavKCaoI/v-deo.html
@@MMS-PowerBII already discovered some of your fantastic tutorials also the one how to create a date table. Many thanks for sharing them ❤.

Thanks for tutorial, I had vision I was suppose to work with Power bi and excel and all of sudden I am doing this like I have done it before. I have been working as IT support in a few warehouses over 20 years. I will watch all your videos.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed this tutorial, and I know this is the beginning of a very beautiful journey for you!
3:07 Can’t you have both - to a certain extent? Data normalization comes in many forms, all of which build on one another! For example, you could be in 3NF, but not 4NF.
Of course, you could consider that a 3NF is a denormalized version of 4NF. But, when aiming for the best performance, then a fully denormalized data is the goal. Having said that, I always use 1NF and 2NF, depending on the situation, because of the way data is stored in our company.
amazing! this will definitely go to my toolbox. 💪💪💪
Thank You very much 😊
