I’ve been wanting a real flintlock pistol for myself for ages now. My current plan is to buy a kit that I have to build since I hate auctions, but I would much rather get one fully assembled. Do you have an recommendations on where to go to get one, maybe?
Aren't ' pinned ' tang the appropiate historical way .....🤔
So two thoughts. There are two blade constructions you may be referring to. "Pinned" tangs are what you see on kitchen knives and katanas. "Peened" tangs you see on medieval swords and some cutlasses and similar. I think you meant peened. And yes, it seems the majority of cutlasses around the golden age were probably peened. But some were threaded like these, and especially in the later 1700s you could start to see threaded more and more. But still peened versions as well. So, both styles are reasonably accurate to be on a general "pirate" cutlass. Thanks for the input!
@@theblackspotguild I'm an European and not fluent in this barbaric language called "english ". ( Yes it is technically an barbaric language , mix of old french and germanic dialect ) Until the XIX century all sword were peened .The French cavalry in 1902 expressively refused the pattern 1896 for it's screwed pommel .
Good review. I might have to look into the Hanwei. Truthfully, none of them are particularly accurate for the 1680 - 1720 era, though. David Rickman's Osprey book the Golden Age of Piracy has some good illustrations , and the Sword in Britain Vol 1 by Harvey Withers has the true Dog's Head cutlass and a few other hangers that are appropriate for the era.

This makes me want to open up a restaurant with a bar with a pirate theme… Serve some specialty rum based cocktail for birthdays served of a desert, with a VERY mini canon, and just use a non flame Based smoker (basically a glue gun we use at my bar to create smoke)

Now, I don’t know what you’re using for fuse materials but you can make your own by making what’s known as rub cloth. If you don’t know how to make rub cloth for fuse material look up Dave Canterbury rub cloth video. The other thing what you said about 5X there is no 5X gunpowder only go as high as four X, which is for flint locks in my opinion and what I am really trying to grasp is that if that’s a canon with a 1 inch diameter why aren’t you using one X?

Which coin is this on your site?
The first one I show is my "Potosi Pirate". The 2nd and 3rd are the "1715 Pirate". They are all the "clipped" version/shape. Two are antiqued, one is natural. Thanks for the interest!
Man, I wish I still had that one. It was so incredible.
I wish Traditions still made that pistol. EDIT: use a .490 ball and a 0.15 patch. The patch serves to create an airseal so gas doesn't escape. And the patch also gets bound in the rifling so that the ball can spin like a baseball, greatly improving accuracy.
You are absolutely right. Patching it for the nice tight fit, certainly would make that nice seal. And especially with the rifling on this particular model it sure would help it spin and get that nice stable more accurate flight! You are 100% correct. With my basic plinking, it is accurate enough for me. If I start competition shooting it, I'll start using patches ; )

Ahoy friend! Excellent! Thanks for the follow. I try to put some fun useful stuff out there. I have gotten all three of my flintlocks off GunBroker! It is an auction site that has just about everything. Two of them I got used, one was new. The new one was about $500, also because it was a special one. The other two were only about $200-250, very reasonable for a functional flintlock I'd say! I hope you find a nice one!

Hey! Thanks : ) yeah, I am loving the all black ones. Such a unique way to have silver!! Depending how much you handle these black ones, some of the black will eventually wear away. As strong of a chemical reaction as goes on in the process, it is not impervious to wear over time. But so long as you don't carry it around all the time, or wear it, it will stay nice and black. But it is a stronger bond and thicker coloring that most gold plated coins I see!

I’ve been looking at those cannons. They offer a few other models, are you satisfied with this one?
Hey Matt! I am quite satisfied. I really wanted a swivel gun. I was debating between theirs and the one by Hern ironworks. I decided this was a better package. Similar price as the Hern but this came with the mount for it as well as the loading and cleaning kit. I believe the Hern that is all separate. But the advantage of the Hern is that theirs are cast iron. This is steel that they bore out. The disadvantage of this is that he has to paint it black. And while he uses a good paint, it does indeed wear through when rubbed enough. Whereas the Hern cast iron can't really do that.
Is it strictly for signal firing or could you launch a projectile?
@@matttowns8258 it is definitely designed for launching stuff too : ) I just haven't yet.
