If you were going to make a walking stick containing something interesting either in the handle or the shank, what would you have? Don't try any of this at home! Here are ten things your see in action films that don't really work in the real world. What's your favourite bit of movie nonsense? What other tropes can you think of? Ten Historical Mistakes in AC Valhalla

While recovering from flu in 2021 I played Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and really liked it but did find a few problems with it historically speaking. It didn’t detract from the experience of the game but some were a tad frustrating. Did you enjoy the game? What historical inaccuracies did you pick out? Where would you want to see the next game set? Do let me know and don’t forget to like and subs...

We're staying in Italy for today's episode for not one, but two incredible stories of heroism that both happened on 9th April back in 1945. My wife and I decided to attempt to live off of Second World War food rationing for a month. We chose the month up to VE Day, the last month of the war in Europe. My wife is far better at social media than I am so for regular updates on how the rationing is...

As a bit of a social experiment my wife and I have decided to try living on WWII style rations for one month. Along the way we will share various recipes recommended by the Ministry of Food and see how the diet affects us including weight and general morale. We've decided to do this during what would've been the last month of the war in Europe, 8th April to 8th May. To that end I will be attemp...
The Last Surviving ROC Operations Room... In The World

Join me as I take an in-depth look at the last remaining Royal Observer Corps Operations Room in the world. The ROC played a vital part in the defence of Britain throughout the war with spotting posts and Ops Rooms occupied 24/7 from a few days before the war until a few days after the war. The words "Unsung Heroes" get thrown around a lot today but in this case it's true as many people don't e...

The story around a Christmas card that my grandfather sent from an Allied airfield in Europe in 1944 and how it was very nearly his last. The card is important to me because it's a direct link to my grandfather, who is no longer with us, and the largest event in human history - the Second World War. This is my entry into a competition to make a 5 minute video about something or someone I find i...

Some of that rationing seems extremely questionable. Like how many fewer chickens laying eggs were there? Probably near zero. How many more eggs did soldiers get? Based on the food I've seen, not much more than normal, if any. Maybe a bit more was used to make rations, but not much more. And it has no industrial uses like grease, that I am aware of.

National cheese I can just about remember. It could have doubled up as soap. A fridge? you must be joking. More likely a meat safe, a cupboard in the pantry with a perforated zinc door to keep the flies out. That I do remember, from the mid 50s.

Many Churchillians consider Robert Hardy to be the best at embodying Churchill. His tour de force was the 1981 BBC TV series: Winston Churchill - The Wilderness Years (available here on UA-cam). There is also a lovely lecture by him on playing Churchill here: ua-cam.com/video/kcvpQ34XIOk/v-deo.html

Driven around. Someone fetches all the daily papers for you to read in bed. May sound like a im lazy but i just hate doing these little tasks in order to get the desired outcome. Be nice to get the outcone without having to do the task lol

Rations varied during the war, it was not a static thing. One year, sadly I can't remember which one, adults only got 28 in the whole YEAR. For me, the tea ration would have been the most difficult, I couldn't even have a decent cup of tea every day with the weekly ration.

Great video. When I first started listening I thought you were going to focus on the storyline, where you find a bit of poetic license. Like Ivarr dying in England instead of Ireland, for example, or Guthrum still in Wessex by 787. In any case, I think I enjoyed your comments all the more because they focus on the built world of the game. I have only one small quibble. Only with your #10. You failed to add the time crunch of the game into your calculations. Your speed calculations are based on our human clock. The animus clock works at a much faster rate. If you calculate speed being IRL distance X Animus clock, the actual speed of the longships is smaller than a real life longboat would've been. This is fair, since the game assumes you are doing all kinds of other stuff that you never see in the Animus representation. Thanks again, for taking the time to put together the video!

Greetings across the pond! Actually, the powdered eggs came from us the Americans in order to transport them. We learned how to turn them into powder. We also introduced spam, which we absolutely hate in this country. It’s disgusting but at the time it was considered good at least over there in your neck of the woods. My Grandfather was a combat engineer. He made it back alive. He would tell us stories that when he would go through the streets over there that he would give his chocolate rations and hard candy from his army meal kits to the children and his cigarettes to the men and women as he did not smoke. Rations weren’t as strict here in United States as they were over there for you guys. I still have my grandparents ration books from the 1940s. I really don’t believe the generation today would survive on rations because they were brought up with having whatever they want and as much as they want plus I believe they would be rioting and killing over food. I am 60 now and even though I was born and raised in America, I came from a time when we did not have as much as the6 do today and appreciated the simple things in life. We also had our own gardens. The kids today have no idea what it is to go through what our grandparents did both here and over there during the war. This was a very interesting video and very educational and would be a great thing for the kids to watch in school…. God Bless ..

Here in Bermuda, being as we're on an island in the middle of the Atlantic and ships could only come by rarely, food was strictly rationed by the government. My grandmother told us a story of a man who broke into a government warehouse and stole a huge sack of sugar. It was about the size of an adult male and too heavy to carry so the man dragged it behind him. However, he immediately accidentally tore a hole in it and the sugar leaked out, leaving a trail all the way to the man's house. All the constables had to do was follow the trail and it led them straight to him. We said "But Nan, didn't he notice that the sack was getting lighter?" and she said "No, criminals weren't too clever back then." We all had a good laugh 😂
