Wakefield's Waterfront 2022
A video about the redevelopment of Wakefield's Waterfront area. Personally, I think the Rutland Mills development is a real game changer for Wakefield. I think the development is something that we can all, for once, be positive about. Together with the Hepworth Gallery, I think the renovation of the Rutland Mills area will act as a magnet for industries related to the arts, including performing arts, music and the digital hi tech arts field. I did a video last week showing the Hepworth Gallery Garden that gives us an idea about what the Rutland Mills development will look like when it is finished. I think that the redevelopment of Wakefield's waterfront is something that will give the city a renewed purpose that will take the city and its inhabitants into the 22nd century and beyond.

A video showing the garden at The Hepworth Wakefield with the historic Rutland Mills in the background. The garden really helps to frame this aspect of Wakefield’s history. Hopefully the Rutland Mills redevelopment will further help to bring this aspect of Wakefield’s history to life. I hope that this part of Wakefield will become a cultural centre and attract development of the creative indust...

Memories of 'The Spike' at Walton Pit
Переглядів 3282 роки тому
The Spike referred to the coal miners housing located on the north eastern side of Walton Pit. Its official name was Ings Cottages. The area famously flooded in 1947 and, as a result, the residents acquired the nickname of Spike Islanders. Looking at the site today it is hard to believe that a community once lived there. It looks like it has always been claimed by nature. I recently walked roun...

Prelude to the Battle of Towton: The Battle of Ferrybridge

Absolutely fascinating period of history and Wakefield
Did King Edward IV's younger brother Edmund, Earl of Rutland die a virgin? 👑💍
1:35, "Edward VI"? C'mon....
Some very nice cars there. Thank you for sharing this video with us all :)
Not a fan of the Hepworth if honest.
Greetings! New to the channel. Liked and subbed to you now :)
Rebuild the towers. 👍
We can only dream.
The Pincer Movement has always puzzled me, We know that the Lancastrians Marched through Crofton to reach Sandal, Did they split into 3 Batailles 1 between St Helens Church and the 3 Houses, 1 on what is now the Sugar Lane Cemetery and 1 swinging around the riverbank? Google Earth shows the main battle lines on the River side of the Castle which makes no sense to me at all.
Did King Edward IV's younger brother Edmund, Earl of Rutland die a virgin? 👑💍
King Edward IV's younger brother Prince Edmund, Earl of Rutland had the last laugh even though he predeceased his brothers and failed to become king after his nephews King Edward V and Prince Richard died since he was killed at age 17 in the Battle of Wakefield in 1460 during the War of Roses, he has over 30,000 living direct descendants. 💐🌷🌹🌺🌸🌼💮
Those lumps of iron on the locks weren’t for ladders, they were used for the collars to hold the hinge part of the lock gate. Great video though.
When was it filled in,read bits before, must be mostly in 50s? Heard parts was filled in due to,children drowning, especially in the locks,or deeper parts. Such a shame filled in,after all work, and years of work actually building.
I lived at number 4 . My dad was Milky Albert Wilshire
Hi. I like this video very much. Just want to mention that Edmund of Rutland was 17, not 12, at the time of the battle.
Thanks for pointing this out. I have added a note/correction in the film description. I hope this did not effect your enjoyment of the film too much. I think it was caused by my extremely poor handwriting when composing the script from my research.

The award winning film 'Clara' that tells the story of Clara Clarkson, Wakefield's Victorian diarist was filmed at St. Peter's Church. Also, Eliza Eve Gleadall, a notable botanist and artist, was the head mistress of a Ladies Seminary at Heath Old Hall around 1835 -1838. Eliza published 'The Beauties of Flora' in 1834 & 1837 - illustrations within have been used by Kew Gardens to aid with the classification of the Passiflora.
