There are so many references to Japanese mythology in this game, it’s amazing. Sometimes the solutions to some puzzles are pulled directly from the stories that inspired this game, like when you set that Yoichi’s arrow on fire. That too was pulled directly from a story.

Sake makes Orochi stronger (and alternatives to alcohol didn’t really exist when that folklore sprung up). Orochimon in Digimon is exactly the same way… except in the 4Kids dub, wherein sake was replaced with… *shudder* …milkshakes.
