    Its the same old boring arguments from a stagnant conservative right. The Western family and birth-rates of indigenous Europeans are in a crisis and must be strengthened but Goodhart blame on the usual suspects (the 60s radical liberal elites etc...) and recommendation that women must return to domestic docility are old and have failed since the social conservative backlash beginning with Reagan and Thatcher. We need a fresher approach than stagnant sterile conservatism

    Mankind in the 21st century needs to wake up to the fact that there are multiple levels to humanity. Whenever you have children you are sacrificing for the greater good of the family that you are having a part in creating. The time & effort you spend on rearing children is immense but rewarding at the same time. Your career & ambition must be balanced if you want to actually have a family. Government has literally nothing to do with these choices.

      Not sure how a video about family policy in the UK is a 'reactionary whine' or a yearning for empire. We can agree on capitalism being in crisis in England.

    Reduction in global fertility rate is essential. The planet cannot support unchecked growth. Overall reduction in population at a controlled rate is a must. If we don't, depletion of resources and destruction of habitat will end us. In terms of gender roles, my home city of Dundee is famous for working women and unemployed me looking after children throughout the industrial period.

    • @darkfool2000
      @darkfool2000 День тому

      No, you don't understand. Reduction in fertility is necessary in countries that have had massive fertility rates for decades, but a reduction for countries whose fertility rates has been below replacement for decades is not a good thing. UK fertility rate has been below replacement since the 70s, and that's despite positive net immigration since the 90s. It's not as bad as Germany, Italy, Japan, or Korea, but it's bad.

      It's like climate change or plastic pollution, someone has to lead by example. We have to reduce global population. The way to achieve this is by educating women worldwide and reducing reproduction rates. It is the traditional ideas that women are for reproduction and home care that has got us in this mess.

    • @darkfool2000
      @darkfool2000 14 годин тому

      @russelllow6795 No, that's overly simplistic. If you only reduce the fertility, you end up with societies like Germany where the bulk of society is on the brink of retirement. If you do that on a global basis, the human race would be on the brink of extinction because you can't get retirees to bear children as if they were in their 20s.

    This is a just a small part of the biggest sleeper issue of our time in Western democracies. It is not unexpected that males overwhelmingly voted for Trump in the the recent election in the US. Both men and women have discovered that contrary to popular belief, they have no legal right to parent their own biological children. Governments have assumed the primary legal authority to decide who a child will live with and who is to protect them from harm. The catastrophic results are well documented in the book 'CHILDREN OF THE STATE - STOLEN FOR PROFIT'

    Marriage is bad for women. Unmarried women live ten years longer and they are happier. Women lose out if they marry. I understand that you feel mens rights are being taken away because women are as intelligent as men and as capable. The education which gives women choices they have not had in previous millennia. Men set up the educational systems a thousand years ago, women have only been allowed to participate for the last hundred years. Not all women want children, not all women are good mothers, not all women are the same. Some want children, but they are setting themselves up for poverty if they have them. Women are not property. Their minds are the same as a mans. Im sorry that upsets you. With our ability to earn a proper income we dont NEED men. We still WANT relationships, but we also want respect and respectful men. Sorry that upsets you.

    Personally I do think children are better served at home being cared for by close family, nursery is great for kids to play but it’s less good when it becomes a dumping ground for kids 10 hours a day, 5 days a week from infancy to starting primary school, I don’t think this is due to coddling but a nursery staffer cannot provide the same care, focus and mirroring a parent or primary care giver can. Care is undervalued and for example caring for older people should be a much better paid and more respected career, I had a male cousin who very much enjoyed this work and was good at it but had to leave for another line of work because he wasn’t earning enough to survive in that field. On the other had any move to send women back to a time where they don’t work and have careers in order to provide the bulk of the care for young children and elderly or sick adults is for many women a road to utter misery. It isn’t how I would have wanted to spend my life and many of the women I know who work even part time with young children usually enjoy their work and find it to be a break from relentless drudgery that child care can be. Any answer which moves towards parents providing more care need to also include fathers as being those also giving up time at work to provide care for the child and or elderly people. This could be achieved by improving pay so that parents could survive and provide a decent standard of living on two part time salaries (while children are young) or if it better suited the family a single salary but we should be wary of assuming all women long to return to the home and caring because we most certainly do not. The reason millennials aren’t having children is largely down to lack of housing with many still in rooms in shared flats in their 30s, low incomes and high cost of living. If people could afford homes and to live reasonably comfortably with an average wage then moving in the a partner and contemplating the next step in life becomes more feasible. Yes some people actively choose not to have children for a variety of reasons of reasons which is fair enough but many simply age out or get used to childfree life while struggling to survive through their 20s and 30s.

    I first heard of Goodhart when 'The Road to Somewhere' came out. I saw a wonderful interview (Maybe on Triggernometry.) I wanted to see much more of him on Podcasts, but he's done them very sparingly. I guess he feels that over-supply of any good cheapens it. (I'm NOT referring to payments - I imagine he does interviews free.) Goodhart's understanding of the human condition seems totally lacking from our elected leaders. ps. Would the Sam Bankman Fried family be an example of failed ultra liberal family policy? (Both parents working progressive university professors, political activists, and apparently also financially corrupt.)

    Not just British media, media around the free (?) world. Advocacy, dressed up as news. Denigrate the unwashed masses, steal their right to speak out against government overreach. The advocates, formerly known as journalists, uesd to have integrity, and a semblance of impartiality. Now they are paid spokespeople for the bureaucracy, and any group of screeching, fundamentalist cowards. Collectivists that hate everything, but the sound of their own self- rightuous, pomposity. Hopefully, we just elected a new administration, that will help quell the screeching, and let the majority of the populace, get back to not looking over their shoulder, when criticizing the government.

    Fun fact: the lower bar for lucrative overseas students includes them not having to speak and write English to degree level standard. A person of my acquaintance earns part of his living proofreading and correcting the written work of certain students in British universities whose first language is not English, helping them to get that work ready for submission. Are they the only ones gaming the system? Of course not. If you're not currently gaming the university system you are definitely not smart enough to be there.

    That's what I hate about conservatives. They make themselves the victims of what they should be personally responsible for, because it's mainly their fault! Because if there is ONE thing that is actually accelerating this mixing of cultures, it is corporations that are starving for cheap labor on the one hand and destroying entire countries by undermining governments and weakening social structures in order to profit from resources that should actually belong to the people and not to some corrupt politicians who can be bought. And when these people leave their countries because there is no hope for them and end up here, who is complaining? It is profit-hungry corporations that are destroying our culture and the space in which people could live. And who are those who are always talking about the economy and profit and technological progress while accepting all destruction? Yes, you got it, it's the conservative parties. And what do they do after the destruction? They complain and point the finger at migrants and homosexuals as if they were the ones destroying our societies and our planet. They are conservatives who don't use their brains and pretend that the problem of an ever-growing economy and technological progress can be solved with social structures and solutions from the last century. Everyone, really EVERY conservative I have encountered in my long life is just a brainless little baby who destroys the toy he loves so much only to cry and blame his siblings afterward.

    It's mad that Universities get every kind of active and passive subsidy and tax break, yet they use these to serve foreigners. It all comes down to the idea that 15% of people going to university at taxpayers' expense was bad and society would be much better if 50% of people went to university at their own expense. Like most successful political polices it happened because it was an easy sell to lots of different groups rather than being of benefit to British society. The policy paid off the Labour clientele, promised social mobility, provided new opportunities to indoctrinate more people and provided jobs to deindustrialised towns. The irony is that the massive expansion of the universities happened at the same time as the democratisation of knowledge via the internet. We have ended up with poorly educated graduates that have less job opportunities having to pay a graduate tax, while universities are allowed to capture more land, labour and capital from the productive private sector. As well as bloated institutions dependent on flows of foreign cash that can't be slimmed down without blowing up our trade deficit. We now have a dumbed down population that politicians can easily sell simplistic ideas to.

    The family courts will go down as badly as the witch trials. We will not understand how they were permitted to decimate so many family's.

      Exactly right. This guy seems completely ignorant of the world outside his front door. Neither a thinker nor a historian.

    True. I had a relative who was a professor at a premier university. He was asked to inflate his students' grades but refused to do so. He was subsequently and consequently side-lined. Our system of education has been corrupted, both in terms of its philosophy and content.

    As a secondary school teacher, I have started to speak plainly about my concerns. Considering that I have to selectively think about what I say as I move forward to make a point (reminds me of the soldier with his bayonet probing away in the minefield), demonstrates how censored views and opinions have become and I am not even in the UK. Looking from a distance so much has changed in such a short timescale.

      It's remarkable (and not in a good way). Unfortunately, those who are so willing to do the country, its history, and Western civilisation down to score political points do not pause to think about the consequences of their activism on young minds. I'm glad you're speaking plainly. We all need to.

    He calls trans a crisis for society, but thats just his feelings about trans people. Does him being triggered equal a national crisis? No. So called antisemitic hate marches, he says, parroting sinister clown Braverman. Maybe people are just disgusted by their government supporting the murders of tens of thousands of innocent kids and women in gaza by the israeli army? Impossible to imagine that for some people, i guess. I hope these guys are open to the fact that many problems in society are caused by the class system and its socialism for the rich. But I doubt i'll hear this from the right wing because its true

    In some ways then Henry 8th's dissolution of the monasteries could be compared to King Philip of France's attack on the Templars in 1307. A grab for resources as well as a bribe to the nobility.

    The monasteries were the welfare system of the middle ages. Its not like monks were running around in Lamborghinis. The vast majority of monks provided alms for their local communities Were there abuses? of course in every profession probability predicts that about 2% of the members will be rotten to the core. And so it was here too. That means 98% or so were humble folk who dedicated their lives to prayer and helping their communities The dissolution was a massive bribe from the King to the nobility to get them on side. And make them co conspirators. It worked. But ordinary people not only gained nothing but lost much. And eventually the monastery was replaced by the dreaded workhouse....
