1. Introduction: What Are Highly Processed Foods?
Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are primarily made from industrial ingredients and chemical additives, with minimal whole foods present. These products dominate many diets, often marketed for convenience and taste.
The Most Dangerous Processed Foods and Their Sources
- Sugary Beverages: Found in sodas, energy drinks, and sweetened teas.
Health Impact: Linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
- Packaged Snack Foods: Chips, crackers, and instant noodles.
Health Impact: High in unhealthy fats and sodium, leading to heart disease.
- Processed Meats: Hot dogs, bacon, and deli meats.
Health Impact: Associated with cancer, particularly colorectal cancer.
- Sugary Cereals: Marketed as healthy but often loaded with sugar.
Health Impact: Promotes obesity and metabolic issues.
- Frozen Ready-to-Eat Meals: High in sodium and unhealthy fats.
Health Impact: Contributes to chronic inflammation and weight gain.
Processed Foods People Mistakenly Believe Are Healthy
- Grocery Store Bread: Often made with refined flour and sugars.
Health Impact: Can cause blood sugar spikes.
- Granola and Energy Bars: Often high in sugar and corn syrup.
Health Impact: Contributes to obesity.
- Flavored Yogurts: Typically high in added sugars.
Health Impact: Affects blood sugar levels in children.
- Smoothies from Chain Stores: Often filled with sugary juices.
Health Impact: Adds excess calories without fiber benefits.
The Impact on Children and the Obesity Epidemic
- Skyrocketing Childhood Obesity Rates: One in five U.S. children is obese.
- Why Are Children So Vulnerable?
- Early Exposure: Fast food and snacks lead to poor dietary habits.
- Marketing: Aggressive promotion of sugary foods targets children.
- Lack of Education: Insufficient nutritional education in schools and homes.
- Consequences: Sets the stage for lifelong health issues.
Changing the Environment: A Call to Action
- Rethink School Lunches: Advocate for meals focused on whole foods.
- Limit Processed Snacks in Schools: Reduce availability of unhealthy options.
- Health Education: Teach children about nutrition and whole foods.
- Community Changes: Encourage home cooking with whole ingredients.
- Food Policy Reform: Advocate for regulations on marketing to children.
Conclusion: What Can We Do?
- Empowerment through Knowledge: Educate about food sources.
- Prioritize Whole Foods: Focus on fresh produce and healthy fats.
- Healthy Schools: Cultivate a health-oriented culture.
- Support Healthier Food Environments: Advocate for local food initiatives.
Responsibility in Foods and Marketing
Let’s explore the food industry and its impact on health, especially regarding chemicals linked to ADHD and cognitive issues in children.
1. Artificial Food Dyes
Linked to ADHD, these are found in sodas, candies, and snacks. Notable examples include Red 40 and Yellow 5.
2. Preservatives
Sodium benzoate and nitrites can exacerbate ADHD symptoms and impact brain development.
3. High Sugar and High-Fructose Corn Syrup
Excessive sugar consumption is linked to cognitive decline and hyperactivity.
4. Trans Fats
These can impair cognitive development and brain function.
5. Artificial Sweeteners
Substances like aspartame may contribute to behavioral problems in children.
These additives are prevalent in foods marketed to children, affecting attention and cognitive growth.
Hyper-Palatability and Its Effects
Processed foods are engineered for maximum appeal, activating the brain's reward system and leading to overconsumption. This includes:
- Sugar: Triggers instant pleasure but can lead to cravings.
- Fats: Enhance sensory experience and contribute to overeating.
- Salt: Boosts flavor and encourages consumption of more food.
- Texture: Designed for maximum pleasure, making snacks addictive.
Conclusion
Processed foods designed for overconsumption are significant contributors to the obesity epidemic, particularly in children, whose developing brains are especially vulnerable.

If i had to pick one i would pick a high qualtiy high dose omega 3 fish oil. They take part in so many biologically essential role in every cell for making many proto hormones like prostaglandins involved in immune functions and inflammation. Have been taking it for 20 years and have no chronic disease and don’t take any medicines in my senior years. Other than relying on good nutrition and not eating processed carbs based on grains. Though have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular and arthritis. If one wants to boost your C15 i understand some sheep cheese have a good amount. More studies on C15 seem to be on animals so far.

Feroptosis is useful to kill cancer cells with artemisinin. Not all and not always antioxidants are good, like in the case of cancer cells killed by ROS itself. More studies must be done on the fact that it doesn't "protect" and promote growth of existing cancer cells.

Pecorino Romano made with grass fed sheep's milk is 1300+mg per 100g of cheese. The research saw the greatest benefits with the older crowd, due to the decline in Glutathione levels only then would you want to start supplementing. Why because you don’t want to mess up the balance between oxidants and anti-oxidants in your body, this brings in a lot of anti-oxidants into your body and if you have age related inflammation it works great, however if you glutathione levels are good then you will start blocking your gains with exercise and muscle protein synthesis, and we don’t want that. Now if you are pre-diabetic or a diabetic then you should take it sooner! If you are keeping very fit and have an average or above average VO2 Max then I would wait till 60, unless your labs show differently

Can we just state: The Medical Profession doesn't know how the body works. So, what else did the idiots remove from our food that is essential? I'm so pissed right now. Fix the damn food supply.

    • @TheVisserPodcast
      @TheVisserPodcast 20 днів тому

I understand your frustration but it is more complex and crazy than that: The medical profession is great when it comes to their specialty. However when it comes to nutrition, physiology, supplementation and how to optimize your health most do not have the training or knowledge. The food Industry plays a big role with the lobby channels they have, government also plays a critical role with so many aspects that influence our environment and food choices - such as subsidies that are given to grow… and then are added to foods we eat to keep the price down - cresting highly processed foods that are cheaper than real food. The public health authorities, The food Industry etc all these form the environment we live in. So all I’m saying is that there are so many players that influence and that the medical profession is but a small cog in this machine

Is C15 in Full Fat Kiefer?

    • @TheVisserPodcast
      @TheVisserPodcast 21 день тому

No, C15:0 is not a full-fat kefir. C15:0, also known as pentadecanoic acid, is a type of saturated fatty acid found in some full-fat dairy products like milk, butter, and certain animal fats. It is being studied for its potential health benefits, such as anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects. Full-fat kefir, on the other hand, is a fermented dairy product rich in probiotics, made from milk and kefir grains. While full-fat kefir may contain small amounts of C15:0 due to its dairy content, they are not the same thing.

    • @TheVisserPodcast
      @TheVisserPodcast 21 день тому

Correct on the need for fiber, however if your gut-biome is not diverse enough, or you wiped them out in the last years with the use of anti-biotics, fiber will irritate, bloat, constipate etc. So you have to start with a multiplier and diversify er protocol. This will include pre and pro biotics, fermented foods and only after this introducing higher fiber. Last point the bioavailability of C15:0 in fiber is close to nothing, our bodies are unable to pull it out. plantfadb.org/fatty_acids/10043

I've never heard how a Cow, Goat, Sheep... have C-15 when they don't drink milk after weaning. They are naturally vegan. So would humans make their own C-15 on a vegan diet? Or can you only produce your own C-15 if you only eat wild grass/ herbs and have 7 stomachs?

How can you say the research is compelling? Maybe C15 will turn out to be promising, but 1 RCT on 30 obese people and research by a patent holder hawking a supplement is not all that compelling.

Whole food vegans do not tend to get the diseases that you state that C15 provides protection against (Fatty Liver, T2D) and I suspect that they get little or no C15.

Maybe C15 is healthful, but it is clearly not a magic bullet. People in the 1960s were likely getting much more C15 than people today and they had shorter lifespans than people have today. Of course, today's greater lifespans may be due to modern medical treatments and / or lower smoking rates.

That guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. Ive been taking Fatty15 for about a year and feel AMAZING. I was always tired, my skin was dry with wrinkes and dark circles, no energy and my sleep was messed up. As soon as I started taking Fatty15 it all went away. Now I sleep great, wake up energized, have plenty of energy throughout the day, my skin looks better and is softer, wrinkles and dark circles are disappearing...I feel great. This guy can say whatever he wants results are results and I am not making this up. If it's BS then how can you explain this?

You have a strong opinion! Don’t get me wrong you need a healthy dose of skepticism in this field - without getting jaded. I come from an era where all doctors coming out of western medical schools, were though that vitamins, minerals and herbs were all worthless - while they were pumping their respective populations full of anti-biotics destroying immune systems Research always runs far behind practice, so we need to look at the field for know use our best judgement and then in time looking at the mature research

I disagree on sunlight. Sunlight is the preferred method of getting vitamin D, in combination with food. I live near the equator and make sure I get a bit of sunlight nearly every day. I also eat plenty of animal-based foods. You can increase your sun tolerance and improve vitamin D production by consuming sufficient cholesterol (which is found in the animal products, just like vitamin D) and have low vegetable oil consumption. I do not take K2, and only rarely take magnesium. I get my K2 and most of my magnesium from eating healthy. A reason for consuming additional magnesium (and plenty of salt) is that I sometimes sweat quite a bit here.

A lot of the world lives so far from the equator that “getting a little sun each day”, is like saying “polish your 20” thang everyday”. It’s just not realistic. If you live below (or above) the tropics, away from the equator, then you can name the country and I can guarantee that country’s biggest vitamin deficiency is vitamin D.

@@TheVisserPodcast Not everybody has low vitamin D. Many people get enough from diet and sunshine. Even when few people eat a high animal foods diet and get frequent sun exposure like I do.
