I always liked the alternating spines for super sonic because of what it does for shadows character presentation. His base form having the same silhouette as super sonic immediately communicated his power. But at the same time, the straight up spines are cool and it's nice to have more distinction from super shadow

Dang, shoulda been Rouge. She's been a controversial character the past 2'ish years because of her redesigns in Prime and X Gens, so it's a good time to capitalize and check her out (even moreso if she ends up being in SM3 this December)... and vaguely remind people when she was at her sexual peak/prime. The best year to define Rouge's best design across nearly all her appearances. Seriously though, Rouge would genuinely be an interesting character to cover, especially with her spiked relevance the past couple years.

Sonic Heroes isn’t my favorite character model for anyone. lol Either it was a downgrade for me or the have better models later on.

While Eggman’s model are usually great, in fact I think the SA2, Zero Gravity, and weird enough the Chronicles models the best. There’s something a lot of them don’t do right in my opinion. In Yuji Uekawa’s early art he always drew Dr. Robotnik’s mustache super huge and crazy looking, and it looks awesome! And I feel like they don’t make the mustache nearly as big as I think it should be, maybe the first 2 Riders models do a bit. I really want to see a model with a larger mustache someday.

For me it’s a tie between the SA2 model and the 06 model as my favorite. They both have aspects that I just love about the design. The SA2 model has great fur textures, I love the orange color on the ears and mouth the most, his proportions, I like how they made his Inhibitor Rings look different from the regular rings, and the low poly count actually makes his quills look the most like the 2d artwork with the 90 degree angles. And I love how the 06 model has his quills are more swept back compared to other models, I also like the proportions on him too, and it also has the honor of also being Mephilis’ model which made him look so cool.😎

1:54 Bruh!? That was the entire point! This model came out before they finalized Shadow’s design and they wanted to show that Shadow was on another level compared to Sonic. So they designed his quills to match Super Sonic’s as a way to visually show that he was more powerful. And in SA2 people kept mistaking him for Sonic even though they don’t look the same, but once they both go super they almost look exactly like same, showing that at this point they’re both equals. I actually wish they kept Super Sonic’s quills the same as Shadow’s to keep that idea going.

Honestly I vastly prefer the models from Adventure-06 over the ones from Unleashed onwards. Aside from the fact that the newer ones all kinda look the same, each of the older ones have aspects that I like that I feel aren’t really there in the newer ones. Like how the first SA model had the most expensive facial expressions and fixes the issue the later ones have where the side of the head has 4 quills visible, the SA model keeps it to 3 quills and keeps them long unlike the forces model. Or how the 06 modes has longer shoes that make him look quick on his feet instead of the stubby clothing iron shaped shoes the models have from unleashed onwards. And the SA2 model having the best colors, quills that look actually sharp, and it just never stops looking cool. Overall I feel like older models just captured Sonic’s design and cool factor way better than the ones now.

My personal favorites are SA1’s, Brawl’s and Mario & Sonic 2014’s models. I guess my big issue with the newer models is how his head is structured. As his eyes take up a lot of his head and don’t give his dreadlocks enough room to breathe, almost as if they’re being held back by a tube of hair gel, making his head look really empty.

8:54 I don't really think they would need to fix it, when that doesn't happen once the model is animated, the arms are usually down, not interacting with the dreadlocks, and once he raises his arms, it goes in-beetween the 2 dreads, with them splitting apart

I've really been enjoying these videos showing off character models. I was a big fan of the low poly videos that a+start made but they haven't made a new video in quite a long time. It's nice to see somebody else doing it.

I've actually started ripping the real Sonic The Fighters models, I've started progress on Tails and have completed Sonic. Multiple people have actually finally started ripping the real models, but most of them aren't public. Also, the Knuckles model image you have under the Sonic R Knuckles isn't actually the final model for him. It's the beta model of Knuckles, notice the bigger top head part.

You can replicate the look of Sonic Shuffle outline in Blender by turning on backface culling and flipping the normals of the shell mesh (if they're not already inverted).
