This is a life-saving video. Unfortunately, in the UK the US psecialists do not get trained in vasa previa, and so even when using an equipment which has doppler option (and it seems that every UK hospital has a US with a doppler machine ) v- they do not bother switch it on. NHS prefers to lose 500 healthy babies in the country each year, than to train to check for vasa previa. Some consultants simply dismiss mother who are concerned with vasa previa and refuse to properly chekc for it even when asked - however, thank goodness, there are otgher consultants whose opinion is different and who do save babies from needless scary death. This situation has to be changed.
beyond sad, in the name of humanity on my part.. for the 500 perfectly beating baby hearts lost only in the UK per year, which would be still beating just like ours... Imagine the stats worldwide! Who is failing who? Voters or politicians? Cold blooded murder in my opinion, which could have been avoided. but we never bothered, because, "it is rare and wouldn't happen to us"...
Kudos to my doctor - at my VP birth in Colorado five years ago, an army of medical students watched my O.B. perform the cesarean. Kind of awkward for me, being naked on a slab and all, but I hope it helped to train them on how to save VP babies.
