Branson Waterfalls
Переглядів 2658 років тому
We usually hit up the waterfalls down in Arkansas after a big rain, but decided to stay in our backyard this time and appreciate some of the natural wonders of Branson, MO. Started and Busiek State Park, then wandered around Lakeside Wilderness, then finished the afternoon at Henning Conservation Area.
Wichita Mountains 2015
Переглядів 2638 років тому
We woke up a 2am to head out to the Charon's Garden Wilderness near Indiahoma, OK for the weekend. We were blown away, not just because it was so windy that weekend, but because the whole area was just incredible. Who knew Oklahoma had real mountains? The abundance of wildlife was worth the drive alone. First trip of many to this wilderness playground.

Been doing some trips, but not videos after so decided to make one of this little backyard outing. Used the trails at Busiek SP in SW Misouri to access and paddle the Woods Fork. Ended up being a fun float with the typical hundreds of portages around log jams. Would recommend it to a friend.

Did the Buchanan Pawnee Loop near Boulder, CO as a group backpacking trip with few extras. It ended up being a solo trip for the majority of it. We all enjoyed our time out there and had a blast. Great and amazing trail.

Hanz USA provided me with some of their Submerge waterproof socks for a gear test and review. After putting them through sock hell for six weeks, I put together this video with the results.
Buffalo River Float and Hike May 2015

We had a pretty relaxing Memorial Weekend paddling and exploring some hollows on the upper Buffalo River near Ponca, AR. Backpacked and hammock camped after the float. Poor video to capture some memories of an awesome time.

Solo packrafting trip on Long Creek within the Hercules Glades Wilderness near Forsyth, MO. Lots of camera issues, but put together this little flick with what I managed to get of the trip.
James River Snow Float
Переглядів 3139 років тому
We got out for a relaxing float trip on the James River near Nixa, MO. Water was low and it was a bit nippy out with a 17F wind chill, but we managed to stay warm and have a great time. Saw so much wildlife. Too slow with the camera to capture most of it though.
Kayak Sledding

Roamed SE Springfield, MO exploring the gradient of the neighborhood by kayak sledding. Did about five miles of this, but decided not to make this video three hours long so enjoy some of the highlights and come with me next time.

This wasn't a big trip or anything. The creek was dry and none of the waterfalls were going, but we all got our nature fix and had an amazing time. Started after dark, slept under the stars, enjoyed some unusually warm winter weather, and explored around the next day. It was a great alternative to dishes, laundry, and other domestic responsibilities for the weekend.
Hammock Compatible Sleeping Bag Liner

This is a little sister project to the hammock pod we made. Its a fleece sleeping bag liner that's hammock compatible. Adds a little extra warmth to the system when its snot freezing cold out there.

Bear Creek Trip 2015
Переглядів 2439 років тому
Our first trip video since we did a New Years resolution to start making trip videos. It was 10F, uphill both ways and we got hit with an ice storm overnight, but the awesomeness of our weekend could not be hampered. Hiked to Haw Creek Falls, Pam's Grotto Falls, and Buzzards Roost before backpacking into the Bear Creek Canyon near Pelsor, AR.

    I wouldn't deflate my pack-raft over sharp stones. They are more likely than not to rip the craft. You can't afford to make such a basic mistake in the wilderness.

    If you're looking at this video as an introduction into packrafting, PLEASE don't view this as a comprehensive guide. The clown isn't even wearing a helmet and there are no perimeter lines on the stern of the raft. Have a watch of the woodriver packrafting video to get an understanding of how important stern lines are. This is so basic. Go find a pro and do a course if you want to learn safely.

      Don't be such an Elf n Safety wally.. life is full of risks. grade 1 and 2 I wouldn't wear a helmet either.... for fly fishing these look brilliant - the spray deck to lay your line on... perfect for calm waters such as high altitude lakes, where hauling a 15ft kayak is bloody hard work, even on a C-tug. This would fit on my motorcycle and make shore based casting a thing of the past, provided it wasn't too blowy. A drogue deployed would control the drift to sensible rate and a small anchor would enable static fishing. Bloody ideal.

      @@simoneverett6081 I think you misunderstood my comment. Packrafting is amazing. This video, as a how to guide, is not. I'm suggesting that if you want to learn about packrafting, seek out a professional as you will receive sound advice and gain an understanding of how you should make informed decisions on the river. Dont follow the advice of some clown who, by the look of the creases in his packraft, has only used it once or twice.

      @@TheHuwMiles actual if you go to Alpacka website the folks who designed these don't wear helmets either. They also have different types of rafts for different waters this looks a lot like the the medium or large classic raft. Which isn't designed for White water rafting. It will work in a pinch from everything thing I have read. I think both are packrafts will work. Ive seen tons of videos people using Alpacka and swear by them. There is also one benefit to alpacka that Kokopelli doesn't have. That is you can actually get rafts where you can store your gear inside the raft it self. It supposed to add more stability to the raft while allowing you to take more gear and keep your gear safe. I plan on going with Alpacka myself.

      @@michaelrunk8593 alpackas are awesome, all of my fleet are alpackas. The kokopelis are good too and also have tizips so you can store gear inside.

    Very instructive video. I do have a couple of questions if I may be so bold. 1. How sturdy are these pack rafts (if they're made by the same company who makes those air mattresses you get at Wal Mart I'll probably drown before I even get under way) 2. How much gear (lbs) can you realistically expect to carry down a challenging river? 3. What happens if a paddler capsizes the craft .. are you screwed or generally speaking how is this compensatwd for? 4. for camping and exploring .. Is this a better way to go than say using a canoe or kayak? Thanks for your detailed reply.

    • @ozarksadventuregroup4581
      @ozarksadventuregroup4581 7 років тому

      they are very durable. I have abused mine for years and have not had to make any repairs. the aftermath of tipping isn't much different than tipping in a canoe but with a little more risk of losing your stuff so I am more carful to scout and portage log jams etc... than I am in other boats. they are slower than canoes and kayaks and less manuverable yet more stable. the big advantage is being able to trek with it. You can foot shuttle yourself and access remote areas with it. when I am just going out to paddle, I prefer a kayak but for these unique trips, there is nothing like a packraft. the one in the video is a Yukon from Alpacka rafts. hope that helps.

    Looks like this is the way to go. The systems they sell are so expensive. Does this allow you to sleep sideways-ish so you're flatter? Does much cold air get in the holes? what if you sewed the hammock directly to the bag to avoid losing heat?

    wonder if you could make a video altering a Military Sleep System to perform the same way? I have considered ordering a used one just to try this project with. I am wanting the option of adding/ using the bivy for winter camping as the system is amazingly warm and dry. Thanks

    • @ozarksadventuregroup4581
      @ozarksadventuregroup4581 9 років тому

      Sure you could make a military sleep system work pretty easy. I bivy camp quite a bit, but for hammocks, I pretty much always take a rainfly to hang under so that kinda negates the need for an outer, waterproof layer like in the military sleep system for that. Would play with making the two inner layers hammock compatible and leave the shell layer in tact if you were to go through with it. Just me though. Lots of ways to sleep in the woods.
