STL Congressional Race: Wesley Bell def. Cori Bush
Don and St. Louis political veterans Mike Jones and Jason Rosenbaum of St. Louis Public Radio break down the epic and contentious battle for St. Louis' congressional seat between U.S. Rep Cori Bush and STL County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell. Bell defeted Bush, ushering in a new era of representation for the seat that was one of the founding districts of the Congressional Black Caucus. Bush rose to prominence as a local activist and member of D.C.'s famed "Squad", while Bell's campaign was supported by unprecedented amounts of pro-Israel money poured into his campaign from across the country.

And now the Democrat option is an individual who refused to enforce court ordered child support. Wesley Bell refused, still refuses to enforce valid child support orders. How women can even consider voting for him is beyond me. Now he becomes the alternative to lunatic Republican #47. Vote for Bell, who refuses to support women, specifically underprivileged women in need or vote for whatever Republican and their anti-women agenda. What a choice...

I believe the money played apart but we can not negate the fact that Cori has been ineffective in her district. It blows me away when people assume that black voters are not aware of what their leaders are doing or not doing for them. Money controlled the volume of the messaging but the facts are the facts. What people are afraid to say is that Cori made herself a target! When her first priority should have been the constituents in her district. Effective Leadership requires balance! People elect you to get something Done not antagonize without results…

This is deep... on so many levels! The black community has to make people pay... but without that check... how do you make them pay ? the Black Caucus definitely has to make a stance!

Correction (8-13-2024): Starsky, there is no such thing as a "Black Church" in the South nor any place else. Read your Bible so that you might see who is the Church.

Thank you! I always say discovery and developing your eye are fundamental elements to becoming a collector. If you haven’t been doing this already, look up the museums and galleries in your area and start attending exhibitions. This will help you understand what you like, e.g., painting, sculpture, or photography. If you already know what you want to collect, start with local art schools at the collegiate or graduate level. Attend their open studios. This will allow you to begin buying work without needing to spend thousands of dollars. If you’ve mastered that, identify galleries that have programs that align with your collecting interests and thesis and reach out ahead of exhibitions that you want to buy work from and build a relationship. Hope that helps.

Mr Steels kept it real. He was one of the few black gop members who didnt just spew the same ol talking points. He actually showed how to get a piece of the pie and would routinly fight to get the party chairs to loosen the purse strings and support black initiatives and not just have a photo op and pat on the head. When he was the party chairman he did his job and won many seats for the gop and they fired him that same year after the elections. I would ask all black gop members to take a page out of his book and try to show us how to gain access to the bag that they (gop members) too often keep to themselves.

Tbf it comes with a compromise. All politics is compromise at its core which is why politicians by their nature have to be many things to many folks, in particular those with money 💰 who got them elected in the first place. But leveraging a portion of the electorate towards an issue that can benefit said electors is essential the game. It's not pretty and it's sure is messy but it can be done. And I'll add this wheeling and dealing usually is for a certain class of black folk, usually upper middle class and middle class. But it's empowerment to one end.

from the start of this Caucus Room podcast, I have been waiting for this one. Admire both of these gentlemen, as a young AA Republican back in the late 80's and 90's, having the opportunity to have a chance discussion with Michael Steele many, many years ago, confirmed why I became a Republican, though today, that has changed drastically during the Obama years. Thanks for doing this one Mr. Calloway (so many lessons)
