Cutter is the youngest of our three British Lab Homestead dogs. He occasionally gets a time out, and if he gets up early from his timeout, he may get leashed for a few so he knows we mean business. He don’t like it, but sometimes needed. No physical punishments. He knows if he smiles at me, it goes a lot easier for both of us. Positive training methods is much better. Can your dog smile on command?

Drinking coffee and watching the homestead come to life. Looks like it could be a boring lifestyle, but you never know what you will see or be doing next. It’s always something. Young rooster learning to crow, wild turkeys, ducks playing, incredible sunsets. It’s a life.

I don't know how this got recommended to me, but looks good! I see these okra (ochra? sorry, i'm from Europe English is not my native language) in the store all the time, never knew they could be used to make comfort food. Channel seems interesting. Gave you a sub :)

@@huisbaasbob1923 thanks for your comments. We have many people who have never tried Okra here in the USA. People ask us to make videos about what we do with the vegetables we grow on our homestead, so we share that information. Being diabetic, we try to make our food low carb. Try it! We hope you like it.

@@juliapuppy8667 thank you for the kind words. Not a lot of people have even thought of eating home grown okra, but it’s one of my favorite. My A1C has been under 6.5 for the last few years by learning to cook this way, and eating non processed foods. Most important, it’s delicious comforting down south food. Hope you try it! If you have never had fried okra, it is awesome comfort food. It’s not slimy cooked this way, and it’s very healthy. This is a keto recipe to lower carbs for those who want to lose weight and help with lowering A1C. Very tasty. It’s quick to air fry, or can be just cooked in a pan. I prefer to air fry because after being cooked, there’s no need to soak up grease. Hope you try it for yourself. Thanks for watching. Apple preserving is one of my “in the heat of summer” things to do. After you gather some apples, you can preserve them for a day when you can’t just get and eat apples from your own trees. We core, peel and slice them. From there, it’s what we are in the mood for. One of my favorite ways to preserve is freeze drying them. After freeze drying, When properly stored in Mylar bags, they can last for up to years, and keep 99 percent of its nutrients. We also can and have dehydrated foods, but a lot more nutrients are lost. Mother Nature put the nutrients into our raw fruits and vegetables, and we want to keep as many of them as we can. Leave comments or questions if you want to know more. God Bless You!

This story is about the white duck and the condition she has called Angel Wing. Angel Wing is a condition that affects mostly waterfowl, caused by a nutritional deficiency in vitamins and minerals combined with a high level of carbohydrates and sugars. While a number of factors are involved, human-fed bread is one of the probable causes. It causes the carpal joint (or wrist) on the wing to grow awkwardly, leaving the wing unable to sit flush at the bird’s side. This affects their ability to fly and the growth of their primary flight feathers - making them look more like sticks than feathers. Damage in fully mature birds is irreversible and likely fatal, due to the inability to fly to food sources and rejection from their flocks. If the bird is young and the diet changes dramatically, however, the damage could be reversed. That’s what we are hoping for. This is why you should never feed ducks bread. 😢

We started from about 2 cups of sautéed sweet pepper From the garden, left over chili from the night before, 1/2 pint home made and canned Cowboy candy, homemade and canned salsa from vegetables from our garden, 1/2 yellow onion, 1/2 red onion, 1 cup or more shredded cheddar cheese, all on nacho chips. We Baked it at 350 for 10 minutes, then topped with guacamole slices and a dollop of sour cream, and home made salsa. Very tasty! Try it and let us know what you think. Made a fun and relaxing road-trip to visit our daughter and grand pup in Kansas City Mo. she actually lives in Kansas, but close to state lines. It was great to see her, to visit, eat some fine KC food, look at some local attractions, relax, and just let Michelle be on vacation for a couple days. Our Homestead dogs are not just pets, but working dogs also. They love to fetch downed birds in the field, as well as lay by you for all your anxiety and problem solving. They are great listeners! They will all do each of the commands, but Cutter was my right hand in the field. Now that I have lost most vision in the left eye, we are working on service dog commands. He has a lot of fire, and the retraining is not as easy. He tells me when something is not right and tries to keep me in his safety zone. We are switching sides from left to right, and he crosses in front still to keep me off fences to close and other people to close. He will get it, time will tell. This is our story about our new Homestead cat. She was a stray. We tried to find her owners, but was unable to. She liked our home and we decided to get her fixed and let her stay if she wanted to. As long as she left our other critters, “chickens and ducks” alone. So…the vets told us we would have to pay for her shots prior to them spaying her. Nice money trick huh. So we took her in, told them we couldn’t tell if she had already been fixed. They scanned her for a chip, but none were found. They gave her shots, put her out, and shaved her belly. They found she had already been fixed! So the cat is mad about that. Told her no cats on the table, mad about that. Scared chickens, put her out of chicken run, and mad about that too! She’s a mess, but she will fit in. Michelle gets mad for me being on the tables too. 😂 If you are new to our channel, and you like what we do, hit subscribe and like. As always God Bless You!

We preserve food in a couple different ways. I’m talking about all kinds of food! Right now in July, our big concern is for our garden produce. We wash it, clean it, cut it up, slice, chop, depending on how we want to preserve it, and freeze it. We freeze in freezer bags, and some on trays for freeze drying. Some food gets canned, both water bath method or pressure canned. We grow more than we can eat during the summer to preserve it for times when we are not growing food. People have questions about our freeze drying operation and what steps it takes to make it all work. That’s what this story is about. Make sure to watch both the short and the longer video. As my day began at sunrise, day shift began with the duties of today. Our dogs like going outside at the crack of dawn, and there’s no rest for the weary. They get fed, go outside to take care of their chores, we give fresh clean cold water, start fans in their kennels, play swim exercise, and then kennel up. Next the cat gets fed and watered in the shop. Next the fish get fed in the pond. Next the chickens are turned loose in their run, and they are fed and watered. Next the ducks are turned loose to free range. We have a new female duck who came to live with us. She’s in physical therapy with healing wounds. Not sure what happened, but she was given a pen to get used to us for a short time. Next she will be moved in with the other ducks. Water was turned on the garden, and freeze dryer was checked.
