I really like this podcast. But, this thing of giving Duke an “asterisk” or claiming they “snuck through” for advancing to the Elite 8 because Shead was injured needs to go away. Do you give teams asterisks because they end up facing a woefully lower seed to advance ? No. Houston without Shead was still a better team than the Oakland team that Nc St beat to advance ( instead of having to beat UK) and we don’t give them an asterisk. You play the team in front of you and some degree of luck plays a part in EVERY team’s tournament success of they make it as far as the Elite 8. And, while I agree that chances of Duke winning that game would have been significantly diminished had Shead been healthy, you can’t claim to KNOW that that’s the case.
"Why would Peavy leave TCU for Georgetown?" From all reports, Georgetown is apparently throwing around enormous bags of NIL. Perhaps that was persuasive for him.
Great preview. Think you're spot on for the most part. As a Xavier fan, my number one caveat about this years' roster is the rim protection. If we had a legit rim protector I would really be tempted to think about competing for the national title that's how much I like this roster, but other than that I'm not too worried about the defense at other spots. McKnight is solid and, for the most part, the guard transfers are super athletic, Maddox and Foster in particular. Swain was an elite defender last year as well. Freemantle was a liability on defense in 2022. Almost all of the late season improvement that season came due to Jerome Hunter replacing all of Freemantle's minutes when he got hurt. Jerome is an elite defender at the 4 and is capable of coming out to guard the perimeter as well if need be. He had Bryce Hopkins in a torture chamber when they matched up. Still, that team had a lot of bad individual defenders. Boum, Kunkel, Freemantle, and Nunge were all minus athletes and defenders and they pretty much all had to play every minute of every game. That won't be the case this year. I think it's unlikely that they're as poor as that team defensively. Last year's team was 45th in defensive efficiency with a similar hole at rim protector and this year's team should have more depth and better athletes. A top 40 defense is definitely feasible. also, you should drop a link to the pod on r/BigEast
Love the Pod. Ky, you say that Darrion Williams has low usage, but that's only because the horrible, shot chucking Pop Issacs took so many bad shots. With him gone (thank goodness) and a facilitator in there, Williams will be a top 50 player this season
I think comparing Lubin/Tyson to Fiddler/Zapala is disingenuous. Carolina has much more coming back and both Lubin and Tyson were better on better teams
I think the March results kind of validated the ACC and indicates some of the criticism was unfair and overly focused on the ACC beating itself up in conference play.
Lol Edey definitely got solved. UConn basically gave him ten points at the end of the game because they wanted Purdue not to shoot threes, it was a controlled burn. Plus the obvious offensive goaltend he had, very forgettable 37 point game. UConn on top
I get that NC State is in the 40s in Kenpom, but over the last 10 games this team has been about 5 points better in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency. They have absolutely been the beneficiary of some bracket and shooting luck, but it also feels like they made significant improvements down the stretch. They beat Kenpom number 7 (twice), 9, 13, and 31 by an average of 9.4 points to get here.
What are your thoughts on the Big 12 underperforming in the last two tournaments? Kansas state last year is the only team to overperform their seed and this year Texas is the only team to perform to their seed (Houston still pending).
Good shiz 4-1 best bets. The 10,000 hours rule starting to come i to play for the weave

Trazerian White is very underrated
Of course Matt is okay with the head throw. Tyus Jones won Duke a national title with it

Weird to not have any ucla stance

Why is Ky muted
Solid grades.
