Girls of Summer- 2024 Dolls
This video actually has multiple dolls that were created in the summer of 2024. Normally, have a new doll once a month with a video on said named creation. This summer I have been on a sewing roll, and therefore have created multiple dolls in a short period of time.
So I take a few moments per doll to describe their outfit, the features, accessories, jewelry, and any hats. Some of these are not fully complete as of yet due to some trim and or beating needing to be completed and I will post any features in a separate video per doll.
Enjoy!

Dolls of 2023

In this month’s video, I peruse the three Renaissance replica dolls that I completed at the end of 2023. Messed up a little bit on the names in his video. Through looking back at my blog, I realized that the doll in the blue and peacock teal down doesn’t really have a name. I normally name the dolls after popular medieval and Renaissance saints, I am going to name her Kathryn. Also, the doll in...

This is my most recent doll project complete. I had procured Marguerite through Ebay, a more expensive undressed porcelain doll. Although she is fully posable, with a very detailed skeleton. Not just the typical wire armature. So I dressed her in 1540's Florence shot silk gown with velvet and soutache trim, she features a gold cotton lining and underskirt with gold metallic lace overlay. I just used the thrifted green army blanket as fabric to make a cloak an trimmed it in red wool. Ending up with 3/4 open cloak with penannular clasp closure.

      The playable cloth or wood doll toys occurred simultaneously with the fashion doll cousins. The wooden dolls were popular during St. Bartholomew's feast day as part of the celebrations.

    I'm teaching textile arts to disabled people since September and reusing scraps is at the core of my classes! I had only one rule when I introduced the class: no fabric goes in the trash. They find it a bit silly, but it's so important because of how wasteful the textile industry is

      The sewing machine was purchased separate of the table. It was about $40 at an antique shop. Prices can vary based on condition, and on the model as some are more desirable than others.

    I'm from next to Tournai, Belgium. I wasn't much interested in tapestries growing up but I had the chance to see one of those famous Tournai tapestries from the late middle ages and they are breathtaking! You expect something very heavy and dark looking but between the fineness of the work, the complexity of the movement the choice of color, use of light through metal threads and the mere size of the piece,when looked from afar as they were meant to, they look like a portal to the past... And now they cannot get proper funding to build decent infrastructure anywhere in the city 🤷

    I have very little knowledge or experience of 16th C. Dutch girls' names, but I remember a toy boat in the fluyt style that I bought in Leerdam called Aechtje. I think the times match up and it's such a pretty name that I thought it deserved an airing. I hope you consider it :-)

      Oh the kitties come around while I am filming, like clockwork. I am better as spinning then weaving at this point, but its all repetition. Wish I had more time to pursue all of the making of traditional textiles. We discovered a cousin in Ireland who still has a sheep farm, would love to meet her and buy a fleece. Genealogy is always interesting to find out the professions of ones ancestors.

    Hey girl! I stumbled across your comment on a different channel which ultimately made me come browse your channel. This coat is gorgeous! The darts at the bottom are really nice! Do you know any history on what they did for (for what modern time phrasing) “plus size” clothing?

    • @TudorositiesbyMaureen
      @TudorositiesbyMaureen 2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for dropping me a line, Lynzing! The waistcoat, is one of my favorite garments from Tudor times, super versatile. The waistcoats seem to have these godets (darts) below the natural waist to allow the coat to flair over the hips with the support of a bumroll (padded undergarment). Clothing back then was made to fit the wearer, so the tailor/seamstress sized up patterns to fit exact to the client's shape. You may hear folks who make historic clothing for a living; stress showing up for fittings if they are making a garment for a client. If you needed to size up a piece of clothing you already owned, one way is seeing your local tailor/seamstress. I love adding a decorated plackard (panel) to give myself more space in a front lacing kirtle (dress). Removable sleeves and lace tied garments are a great friend to someone who changes shape often. Although there were plenty a housewife who did her own attempt at fixing and refitting existing clothing. Extant clothing may look small in size that has survived the centuries but these typically are garments not worn as often or were tucked away in a drawer. To be honest there were plenty of larger sized folks back then too. Surviving archaeological records are just incomplete since so much was remade into other clothing items due to fabric being an expensive commodity. Thanks for the great question!

    Your work is really pretty~! I know it may not be your type of thing, but just an idea- I am fascinated by the ancient Chinese costume and all of the detail. If you ever feel like trying something new with dolls, or just some artist's block, I think it would be amazing if you could make a traditional Chinese doll costume- It's just an idea, of course, who am I to tell the artist what to do? I hope you have a nice day!

    When we moved into our new place in Utah (I really miss Missouri, but life brought us to Utah), my husband suggested our basement room would be a shared space, one side for him and the other for my sewing area because I was trying to learn to sew when we moved.
