I've played a lot of EDF. This one has been a blast so far. As far as missions and story, the devs really upped their game. There are some later missions where you get some major power fantasy going on, though it requires you to have played EDF5 to really understand what you just did and why that was so dang awesome. For the first time, I was actually invested in the narrative beyond the meme-worthy cheese. The cheese is still there, mind you, but this time, you get some crackers with it. My biggest disappointment is the weapons. Almost every weapon you get is just recycled from the last two games. The only real new weapons are relegated to the backpack equipment, or the air raider's new drones. Otherwise, you're just using the same ol' assault rifles, snipers, shotguns, rapiers, miniguns, etc you've seen before. They aren't bad, but I really wish we got something new. I main the wing diver, and found it hilarious when the initial reveal of the game boasted "pants" as a new feature. I love their new look! She finally gets to look like she's a part of the military with her new camo outfit! Then... I got sucker-punched when the first major story beat stuffed me back into those booty shorts from EDF5. Well, needless to say, I bum rushed the game on easy mode to beat it ASAP and get the ability to choose which uniform I want to wear from then on. They will never take my pants from me again! :p Slowly working my way through on hardest (ironically, only the second hardest difficulty in the game) and it's been great.

Great pod episode, Turbo! I like how Tylord's solution to fixing RE6 is to make the controls worse by adding tank controls. 😂 The curse of Tylord's work shoes. I hung out with him once and we worked out in the hotel gym. He forgot his gym shoes so he ran I don't know how many miles in those work shoes. It was a sight to see. 😂

Anytime a game has less than perfect online compatibility, internet reviewers go up in arms. I see this in most fighting game reviews on the Xbox storefront.

I love living at shenmue 1, everything is so cozy and aesthetic, the old japanese dub, the old 80s vibe with an old retro 3d game style is such a vibe, imo, yakuza 0 has better content, but shenmue feels more alive.

I used to start a game of GTA Vice City, find the nearest car and just sit in it, listening to the radio for hours. Not sure I ever finished the game.

Days Gone has been my latest obsession, and even though it’s fairly action (or stealth) oriented, it’s 100% a game that you can take your time with, explore the wilderness, or just cruise around in on your bike. I only talked about it for a few min in my latest video, but man, does it have a lot of interesting things going for it. I haven’t played Death Stranding yet-maybe they can be played similarly.

I really need to get back into the Shenmue games. I guess I didn't appreciate the cozy vibes as a kid. And of course you can't forget the classic do-nothing game series: Animal Crossing, it's literally just a life sim but even more hands-off. Especially compared to games like The Sims.

Thing is that this can apply to just about any videogame. As a kid I would spend hours just free roaming in games like Kirby Air Ride just for fun to name one example. Pokemon is another example, just roaming the world randomly just for the sake of it. As adults though, we don't have time to just do nothing though, we gotta move on at some point since we have tonnes of games to get through and not enough time.

One of my favorite things to do in adventure and platforming games... is nothing! Granted, it's not the objective necessarily but there is no necessary negative consequence to going around and exploring what there is to see. I'm not necessarily looking for treasure, I'm just looking and experiencing the game world. My one exception that technically rewards (and penalizes) doing nothing is Majora's Mask. Oftentimes, you have to wait for certain time markers to pass before you can experience the narrative and sub narratives. One of the primary examples of this is the Kafei quest. It forces players to actually slow down and well... do nothing! I like Shenmue for what it's worth but yeah playing it on a time crunch is not ideal.

Oh man! I love experiencing the Shenmue vibe. I should've brought that up when we had that chat ;) I think you will like Shenmue 3. It is Very Shenmue but a little more RPG than the others. Another game with a lot of nothing I like is Deadly Premonition; although that has more going on

That Pac Man "Tetris" is a crime against gods and men.

Most underrated game - I think you need to rate it more! I too have trouble going back to non-turbo for some older games. Mega Man, Star Soldier… they really benefit from the auto fire, as do my thumbs.

Great collection Keaton! I also loved Skyward Sword too. You are correct, there is a four Swords game for Gamecube. Your love for Majora's mask makes me want to give it another playthrough sometime. Next, Turbo Zone has to show off his Zelda collection.
