As good as Beat is it mostly reminds me of how magical the Discipline era King Crimson was. I saw them on their first U.S. tour and I had goosbumps on my arms at many times during the performance. It was so magical, new, ground breaking and powerful for 1981. I have loved Vai's playing ever since I first saw him on the first Zappa tour he did, but his takes on Fripp's parts just reminds me of how uniquely amazing Fripp's playing actually is.

The best relationship advice I can think of is: Find a person who looks at you the way Adrian Belew looks when he's on stage playing guitar.

Well, this is the best band in the world at the moment...

Splendid. Steve introduces it with the twiddly Fripp bits, then Adrian brings on the funk. Come to Nassau, guys. I'll be there, (though I doubt many other people will be.) Call it a working weekend. There will be conch.

At first this performance brought a tear to my eye but by the end i was laughing. Such a crimson thing to do to mess with things and live in the moment!

This lineup needs to be an original band, it would be amazing to see these guys write some new original music together

It might just be me but when I heard this piece on the Three of a Perfect Pair album, that awesome opening spliced onto a half-assed jam was so disappointing. Unfortunately seeing it live did not improve that assessment.

GOD BLESS STEVE VAI. The only guy alive to pull this off the proper way. I'm sure Robert Fripp is smiling happily.

Brilliant to watch. It’s so raw and fragile and well… live.. as they find their groove again. Strange but the way they are playing reminds me of riding a horse. It’s a living thing that jerks around a bit. It’s not a motorcycle, like a studio recording. These songs are not easy to play, a testament to their skill and professionalism. I think the mistakes are endearing, and they are literally creating this familiar music out of thin air, so much love to this lineup. It’s deep in the hearts of so many fans.

vai is great..really dig this version ..but..vai's opening is not the same as Fripp's! still an amazing band

While this features Vai and he does a great job, I love Adrian’s solo beginning at 4:45

That opening solo of Vai, the first thought was is he going to ruin Beat the same way he ruined Whitesnake? I love his solo stuff to the extent that I’ve written a book of him but he just doesn’t fit into music other than his own, or Zappa’s. Belew on the other hand, oh my god, seemless. Vai’s second solo just began, yeah fck this.

I hope you are filming these concerts in their entirety so people can buy a concert version.
