Breville Infuser 840XL Pump Replacement
Here I will show you how to replace the water pump on a Breville 840XL Infuser.
You may want to consider this if you are noticing slower flow from the group head and water spigot.

Thank you for this! This morning I discovered my Infuser no longer pulls shots. Water will come out of the brewhead at a slow pace when it is clear, but when I put in the portafilter with grounds there is not enough pressure for any water to come through it. Water Valve & Steam Wand still work perfectly. I believe this might be the issue and will give it a go!
Thanks. Quick n' easy.
Why are the spade clips on the wires so hard to get off? I just broke one trying to remove it 😢
Oh, my goodness, this is the only video you've made? Surely you have another channel somewhere?
Holy cow. What an awesome video.
Thank you so much! I am complete amateur, and I was able to do it in about 90 minutes but going very slowly. Be careful with rubber tunes cause they can be fragile after years of usage. Besides that the whole process is relatively easy. Thank you again.
Hey!! The rectangular white part, to the left of the water filter, do you have a video on how to replace that?
You forgot the the seal for the extension cord in the back !!
Thank you very much! Watched your video. Discovered that it was the pump. (only after checking all the water lines to find them all clear of buildup.) Ordered pump, removed and replaced in 30 minutes. Too easy. Strong work.
Thanks, Espresso Guy! I had already purchased a new Infuser to replace ours, which is about 10 years old. Then I saw your video, bought a pump, and followed your excellent instructions. Voila! Our old machine now pulls shots like a champ. You saved us over $500.
I hope this helps someone but before replacing your pump. Check the inline filter from tank to pump. Mine was blocked and replacing pump was a waste of time.
Thanks for your guide unfortunately mine is still suffering from very poor pressure despite installing a new pump. I have already descaled it, checked for leaks etc…. It was fine for 7 years then one day it started pumping 50% of usual volume on hot water for long blacks and quite a few seconds to start dripping after pre-infusion when it used to be instant.
It was the inline filter inside the machine. Planned obsolescence? Only found one shop that has the replacement part.
Great video. I hooked everything back up, and the pump was sounding good but not pushing any water out. I think there were just too many air bubbles in the system. I took a dosing syringe, like the kind from a pharmacy for giving meds to kids, and I stuck it in the water supply hose that hooks to the tank. Forcing some water in while running that pump did the trick. It sputtered a few times and settled down. I'm now having great espresso again. Thank you!!
Thanks! Repaired my Breville coffee machine after looking at your video. My machinne has been collecting dust for a couple of years and now she’s back and working like new. Impressive how clear, detailed and well put together your video is. Cheers!
So happy to have my Breville back, working better than ever! thank you again! I"d send a tip if I could.
Outstanding instructions, thank you so much!
Great video! I Change the pump but still got the same result with low pression on coffee and frother... :) was fun to do and to follow you with clear steps! :)
Thank you so much! I could rarely pull more than one shot on my second hand infuser before it started bouncing in pressure or just stopped working altogether. I replaced the pump as per the video and it seems to be working perfectly!! So happy right now. A couple of questions. Had you previously taken apart and reassembled the one in the video? Most of my connections were hard to remove but especially the ones on the pump. And I couldn't get the tiny zip tie back on the bottom line that feeds into the pump, is that likely to cause issues down the line?.
Thanks for the clear, concise directions in opening the machine! Excellent video!
How can you tell if the pump is what needs to he replaced? I'm having trouble where, if I trun the knob to steam or hot water, they both come out of the espresso part and not their respective hot water spout or steam want. It's like the selector doesn't work or there is a clog somewhere forcing all water and steam back to the main out. Any idea what to trouble shoot?
Hello, where can I find a power switch replacement?
I have the same machine and I fixed it after watching your video. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the help!
Do you know where a person can get parts in Canada? I am having no luck at all!!
Great video! I would love to see a video on this machine where you go through the machine explaining how it makes the coffee as well as each of the parts and their function. Is that possible?
Thank you a thousand times ! Repaired my machine perfectly in about an hour !
Thank you very much for your video. It was very helpful. I went to a coffee shop to get a new pump because Breville Canada was closed yesterday and the guy gave me a EAX5 pump instead of EFP5 pump. When I ask him the difference between the two, his answer was it's the same. It's seems to me steam isn't as powerful as before and water temperature is cooler than before. I'm questioning myself if made a mistake.
Nice 🙂🙂
Great video, man. It was a bit too close up, I got a headache from watching full screen but the info and the skill is top notch. My Sage is not yet broken but now I know what to do when it will happen. Thank you
My machine fell to the ground and doesn’t turn on. I opened it and there is nothing broken. All connections in place and solid. Maybe the power button /front panel block broke? How do I get to it? Suggestions?
IT WORKED!! Thanks - Luv ya!
Tried but had to buy a new one.
Watched about 5 videos because i already failed to open the top. This is the solution. The 2 little screws. Thanks.
I've replace both the pump and solenoid block and my machine still wont pull water from the tank... any thoughts as to why??
Either water is blocked going into the pump, or it's blocked going to the group head. Calcium buildup comes to mind. In a BES840XL, which I have, the tube comes out of the pump and goes to the heating element, remove the tube connected to the element. Find a way to collect the water safely, and test the unit. 1. If NO water comes out, blockage is before the pump. An in-tank filter has a screen that could plug up, check it. Tube from the tank has an inline filter and flow meter, check for clog. 2. If water DOES come out, your blockage is after the pump. Check to see if the element or group head is plugged. You replaced the pump and valves, so they are good. Move safely ahead.
My 870 is giving me low pressure would this be a pump issue
Excellent video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hi I see a lot of plastic tubing, is there a tube which is in touch with hot water?
Your Video was really of great help to me. Without I would have sent the machine to a workshop paying 150EUR or been buying a new one. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for the video! I was able to replace my pump today, following your guidance, and now our Breville Infuser has a new lease on life.
This would have been better on a new machine. The reality here is that it's virtually impossible to remove those leads from the pump and seeing it done on a machine that's already had a replacement doesn't do justice to just how hard it is to get those leads to come off. FIrstly, there's getting the pliers in there, which is no easy feat, but then you have to pull rather hard because they put it on there good.
OK, I was able to get them off, but it requires a lot more pulling than in later attempts.
This seems to be missing a few things, first of all, there are a lot of zip ties here that need to be removed to get any of those hoses to come loose. And, the pliers appears to be mandatory. Without it, they'll wiggle, but you're not getting them off without a pliers. Stupid design, that type of connector is supposed to be removable without tools.
Thank you very much for this very clear video. A few months ago, I replaced the pump of my Breville 840 to see if it would solve my long-standing low pressure/low water volume problem. It didn't but after re-watching your video and this one (ua-cam.com/video/9lMw6ooiqPI/v-deo.html), I finally understood how my Breville 840 worked, how to take it apart, and how to solve the problem that I had. There were two issues: (1) the 3/2 solenoid valve had to be replaced - it was causing some of the water to flow directly into the drain, resulting in low pressure and (2) there were air bubbles in the water coming out of the boiler, which was due to a crack in the silicone tube just below the pump. Opening the 3/2 valve entirely and cleaning it as explained in this other video (ua-cam.com/video/eljHS_BRJXk/v-deo.html) worked 90% of the time but I ended up replacing it for a more permanent solution - it also solved the buzzing sound. As for the 90 degrees silicone tube between the flow meter and the water pump - it can no longer be ordered (www.ereplacementparts.com/pump-inlet-tube-silicone-p-629894.html) so I just replaced it with a regular silicone tube. It is a bit bent but it apparently doesn't significantly restrict the flow and it doesn't cause any problem. Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Hello dear, my breville infuser the lights work, the steamer work, the hot water works, bit the pump for getting the coffe e out, it's Stones working, what part do I have to replace, please help me
mine has solid steam light and just keeps knocking and zero steam. the machine won't get out from the knocking/heating mode and the wand does NOTHING at all.? Plus, my pressure gauge will NOT WORK under any circumstance. I have decalcified with 7% vinegar/water 50/50 and rinsed and the water fills the excess/fill tray faster than the 'pot' i put under the portafilter!. Do you think there is a blockage or some other part broken?? Well, for sure SOMETHING IS BROKEN. Any assistance would be appreciated from Ontario Canada! Thx.
Great instructions! New pump in and great espresso back out! Thanks
Hi. My infuser do a lot of noise. I believe in view of pump vibration. Do you think it is possible to add some rubber bush, e.g., pencil eraser portions, in pump support to absorb vibration and eliminate noise? Could you do a video to help us.
This was the most helpful thing I've found after days of searching, thank you!
How did you know that pump needed replaced? (Ours is making a new buzzing sound that concerned us at the same time it seemed to have a little less water pressure. I took it apart after watching your video and it does seem to be vibrating the tubes connected to that pump.) But how do you determine that the pump needs replaced?
Did you resolve your vibration? While infusing, even at low pressure, ours often has a sharp rattle that usually goes away part way through the cycle.
@@TimConama yes
But still no water pressure. It must have been something else.
I liked your video a lot, pretty good information. I have a question, I just bought the Breville Infuser and I’m pretty happy so far (I’ve only made like 4 cups of coffee :-)) how often do these pumps break? How do you know when they’re going bad? Thanks
I too want to know how to determine when they need replacing. Ours is 8 years old and just started to make a different noise and seems to have less water pressure. So eight years of using ours daily and MAYBE our pump is needing replaced.
My infuser makes a loud noise when brewing and the gauge isn’t moving. Any idea why this is happening?
same here! Got any update by any chance?
Sam L. No nothing yet 🙁
@@snaashers check out what I found: it might be the issue? ua-cam.com/video/1gEK2rDkaB0/v-deo.html
