Rabbit's Potion game overview PnP roll and write board game
This week I’ve been playing a preview copy of “Rabbit’s Potion”. This is a PnP roll and write game about making magic potions. In the solo game, you take three potion commissions from the Shop and move around the countryside collecting ingredients. You must then mix the ingredients into specific combination patterns, while avoiding adding contaminations into the potion jars.
In this video, I overview the main game elements and then play through the first five game turns. This is a preview copy pre-Kickstarter so some elements may change. Game provided by the game designer for this video.
Note: I’ve obvious been playing too many zombie games and kept referring to “contaminations” as “contagions”. Ignore the “contagions” but try to avoid the contaminants in your potions.

Raging Inferno Solo Play Through Board Game
Переглядів 100Місяць тому
Today I've been playing "Raging Inferno", a 1-6 player bush fire defence board game. True solo was very hard but 2-handed solo worked well. This video is a full game play through. I do house-rule the use of fire breaks (so they take out the full fire, not just one fire token) but otherwise, it's normal rules for 2 player co-op. Will the wind help or hinder? Watch and see. Game purchased from Ne...
We Forlorn Few Solo Play Through board game

"We Forlorn Few" is a 3-5 player game set in the Wild West. As a solo gamer, I challenged myself to build a 9 card automata so I can play this game. This video is a full play through using my print and play solo automa. Play through error(s): Seems I've been playing the Travel Phase wrong. D'oh. You pay the travel cost from the tile you are on, not the one you are arriving too. Thus you can bet...

I never understood why they did cardboard cut outs for the zombies
I don’t understand the dice. You roll then change the face as you want? There’s no explanation about “spending”. Thanks
This is on pages 5 and 6 of the rules. You roll the dice and this gives you the initial values. To trigger a card, you select the row/column and need to subtract each from a rolled dice. So you roll a 6 and a 4 and want to trigger the card at the 2,2 grid card. After this, your dice are set to 4 and 2. You could also trigger the 1,1 grid card. Then your dice would be 3 and 1. Finally you might trigger the 1,3 card or the 3,1 card. Then your dice are at 0 each so end of turn. Thanks for watching.
@ thanks for the response
I'm new to the game. But I think you missed a Scoring of HP while doing your migration. You should have gotten 3HP for the three green hexes that are not touching other colors. You would multiply for any other colors that have cells that are not touching any other color. Yours only had the 1 color that qualified. The rules say you treat a zero as a 1 so you missed out on 3HP. Thank you for your posting as it was helpful for me to see the rules and then your active play of them to understand them a bit more. I also feel it is valid to mention (as I learned from the author's Primer) that you have to plan your hyve for population growth or for HP growth, as they compete against each other.
What genious made D20 red and D12 orange? AFAIK those 2 are the most mixed up dice of all of them, you would think they would want to use super distinct colors for those two specifically, but no, they use probably most similar colors in the whole set.
They are not too bad. The numbers on the D20 are significantly smaller so it is very easy to tell the difference. Thanks for watching.
@@OutofTheBoxBoardGames Yeah, i know, i'm just saying, if you give the dice to a new player as you suggested and tell them to roll a d20, the red one, they are significantly more likely to confuse a d12 for d20 if they are such similar colors. For experienced players it won't matter anyway but for new players it might. It would have been better if they made d20 red and d12 like blue or green, then there would be no confusion. Make d6 orange instead, nobody will confuse a d6 for d20.
Seeing the components made mainly out of wood, you wouldn't think it would be that expensive. Yeah, right. it's a $74.00 game that only two poor souls purchased. And it's tiny. Thanks for the review but I believe I'll pass.
No wooden components. Cardboard boards, plastic beads and cloth bag. Excellent component and fun game. Well worth the retail cost.
I never thought that idea to get the stickers rounded!
I round the corners of everything I can. Thanks for watching.
I love the art and themes. I’m excited to check them out. A Cthulhu theme would be cool too
Yes. A Cthulhu version would be great. Battling cultists to collect elder signs to take on an Old One. That’s got me thinking ….
@@OutofTheBoxBoardGames That sounds awesome. And there are already plenty of AOO’s to choose from
Any follow up? Loving this channel
Thanks. I’ve finished the full pnp build. Just need some time to start the campaign. I plan to do a video when I’m a few battles in.
Very risky publishing a 3 - 5 player game.
Indeed. If they were not a local company, I likely would not have looked further. But I’m glad I did. The solo variant I built is fun and I’m thinking of making a 2 player version (1 automa and 2 players).
@@OutofTheBoxBoardGames I'm not sure I'd play it despite being a local myself but I'd be interested in seeing your mods if you ever publish them.
I have a play through video with my solo variant here. The automa is card driven boardgamegeek.com/filepage/286792/9-card-solo-automa
Hopefully you like it so you can make a playthrough video for us!
I popped all the tokens and sleeved all the cards last night. It’s looks good. Hopefully I’ll get it on the table this week.
Standing ovation
Thanks. It’s a big build but you don’t need to build it all at once. I just like getting everything done and ready.
I love the triangle tokens, and the modulatiry of the board.
Yes. The board and the area/layers are great. I thought they might be limited when I first looked but they work really well when playing.
Commercials are ridiculous
Ok. Which ones are a problem? UA-cam controls much of this but I can see what the options are. Thanks for watching.
It is not the type of commercials, it is the length. The commercials are a full 10 minutes and you can not skip them. I spent ways more time watching commercials than on your content.
Wow. 10 minutes! I had no idea. I hate ads you can’t skip. I’ll see it I can turn these off. Thanks for the feedback.
Looks like I can’t change this via my iPhone. I’ll explore when I’m back home on my laptop. Thanks again.
I’ve looked at the setting and there are no option to remove the non-skippable ads. Sorry. However the ads should only be 20-30 seconds and only 2 together in “ad pods” - according to the YT support pages.
The print and play games are getting so good these days ..looks nice
Indeed. The quality of PnP games are amazing. Great components and clever game play. Not enough time in the day.
D’oh. Seems I’ve been playing the Travel Phase incorrectly. You pay the resource cost from the tile you are leaving, not the one you are arriving on. Looks like I’ll need to play some more.
Waiting for mine to arrive!
Got mine on the table today. True solo was very hard. 2 handed solo worked well. Very swingy but that seems realistic, with wind and random events. I enjoyed it.
Great game and review
Thanks for watching.
Thanks i used the code and will be using it lots as im new to magic and wanted to learn with arena before getting any cards, thanks 👍
👍 thanks for watching.
There was no way we could give you all those tokens and no zip lock bags. 😂
And there are a lot of tokens! Now all bagged up and all the cards are sleeved. Time to play.
Great video, really helpful, thanks
You are welcome. I'm just about finished building the full game. I'm looking forward to playing the campaign. Thanks for watching.
Nice video! The three aging cards with the foot symbol on them need to be at the bottom of the again card pile. You're making life extra hard on the turtles dude!
Good point. Maybe this was hard mode ;)
The original theme of Friday never really spoke to me, but ever since I heard about the Scott Pilgrim version it's been on my PnP list - looks great!
Yes. The Scott Pilgrim retheme looks amazing. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for highlighting my The Martian retheme of Friday! :)
You’re welcome. It’s an amazing retheme. I’m thinking of making a series of retheme videos. People should be reminded of your excellent Mandalorian rethemes.
Can't wait for the playthrough! I still haven't won with my turtle version :(
Just uploaded. It did not end well 😭
That looked like so much fun, I'll be backing it for sure! So in total there will be 3 chapters?
My preview only has 3 chapters. I’m hoping the full game will have more chapters and additional monster sliders.
I’m still really confused by the instructions. I landed on water but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do afterwards. Also in relation to the arrows. How do I know which column/row to put a new arrow and is there a process that determines when I have to place one ? I’m so confused.
If you land on Water, you place a Star on it in the Star Chart and can move from that location in the future. If you look at the top left of the Star Chart, Water is a down right arrow ↘️. You then place this arrow in ANY empty space in your movement Engine. This then builds the movement by row/column. Say you put your Water arrow at 3,3 in your Engine. In later turns, a 3 die would give you ↘️↘️ if you picked the 3 column and ↘️⬇️ if you picked the 3 row. Thus by collecting the elements you can customise the movement in the Engine. Thanks for watching.
That was super close! I'm surprised considering you flew through chapter 1. My favorite thing about this game is the dungeon design. Its minimal but works very well and looks nice. I'll probably pick this one up, I backed their last game Infection as well.
I really like it. It starts with few choices and builds to really hard decisions. I was lucky this game. Building up dice and effects is very important. The potential for replay value is huge with more dungeons and different monster sliders to go in the encounter slots. I’m looking forward to see how it grows when the KS is launched. Thanks for watching.
Fellow Aussie here, a solo variant would be awesome.
Indeed. I’m working on it. I’m playing around with a card based automa to move the other NPCs. However I am tempted with Mandalorian Adventures which just arrived in my FLGS. Thanks for watching.
This is great. Thank you. I just learned about "Print and Play" games, and I bought this one as my first one. Can't wait to play, this afternoon.
PnP is great. Tons of free /cheap games ranging from 1 page to massive. Thanks for watching.
Nice playthrough!! Gotta watch out for them War Parties!! 😁
Indeed. High risk but good rewards too.
Gorr is from Thor Thunder and Love 😅
Thanks. I did not know that.
Excellent Tutorial! And I am now the 1000 sub!
Thanks. And congratulations on being 1K. I missed it overnight. It was 1001 when I checked. Now I just need to get the viewing hours up. Thanks for watching.
Nice playthrough vid. I've already backed this after seeing The Lone Adventurer's playthrough, but great to see another playthrough vid for this game. (You had some great rolls, The Dice Gods like you!) 😂- Hopefully the kickstarter will hit the first Stretch goal soon 👍
It’s a fun game and I really like it. Lots of variety so I think it will have excellent replayability. Thanks for watching.
@Bowlin01 He did a playthrough as well? Will check it out! He always has better luck than me!!
@@IthaquasBane I think he's referring to Tabletop Engineer, I didn't get a word back from Lone Adventurer lol. Maybe one day, but I appreciate everyone whos' given it a shot so far.
🤘Awesome video!
Thanks 😁
Great video! I really appreciate this type of information. Thanks for the heads up on the double-up / folding paper tip and as well as the tip on how to align the image on the bottom of the cutter. I may need to add a circle cutter to my shopping list :)
Corner cutters are awesome and essential for PnP IMHO. The Neo is a great cutter as it is quiet and easy on your hand.
Following the WIP thread for this game on BGG, skipping market cards at the start of the second round isn't punitive. The desired outcome for skipping one market card for every unoccupied yellow hex was to ensure that the game always consists of the same number of turns. As you shows in the playthrough, whenever you place a yellow cube, you tuck the market card on the right hand side (side card, I think the rules call it). Every time you do this in the first round, you remove one market card available to be shuffled in for the second round. Without the skipping mechanic, you could buy yourself 2 extra turns in the second round by leaving yellow hexes unoccupied in the first round. I really enjoy the puzzle in this game. It has just enough dice mitigation to make strategic choices possible, and with the added variety given by the additional cards in the expansion I can see myself picking this up fairly regularly.
Thanks. That’s a good point. I hadn’t thought about how it will balance the number of turns. Very clever. When I play I try and prioritise getting the yellow territories but the outcome is the same for turns. I think my next game will be less frantic. Thanks the comment and for watching.
This is cool and it would be awesome if you had background music to go with the time lapse 😀
Yes. I should have done it as a Short with a rousing bee 🐝 themed soundtrack. Flight of the bumblebees perhaps 🤔
