Just an old hippy who has found something to be relevant about today....even if it is the best form of running, you could only ever do it on a clean track....be madness otherwise...risk of injury, basically tread on stones / rubbish etc, let alone needles....funnily enough, there is a reason you dont see people walking about day 2 day barefoot

he said he would never run the Leadville 100 mile race he participates in barefoot because he's not looking to destroy his feet. But, he said he has ran a normal marathon, 26.2 miles, barefoot and qualified for the boston marathon. I think you have missed the message about the benefits or running barefoot at times to sense what proper form is that will allow you to run as efficiently as possible, even if you put on shoes.

Modern footwear providing too much support, stiff, cushioned, heel lift, narrow toe box is equivalent to wearing a cast, the foot muscles atrophy. If kids are put into shoes during their first 7 years of life, their foot development is limited. The best solution, go barefoot. The feet adapt to what we expose them to and our bodies were designed to walk barefoot. It takes time, think of it as therapy at first, but the feet will adapt. Thanks for putting this out and inspiring a movement!

Too high an arch causes sever muscle spasms for me. I can wear Teva Tirras which have a lower arch support which seem more comfortable then the OLUKAI Ohana tongs. I ordered some Lunas to see how they feel. I haven’t received them yet so I will see.

You just have to be careful barefoot running. I got up to 13 miles, but I stepped on an acorn shell that stopped it. I ended up with a fibroma that had to be surgically removed. I now use minimalist, zero-drop shoes that give me protections from various road/trail debris.

I bet you are ahead of the game! Start running. Start slow. Just little bits, slower than you think. Start on concrete, not on grass. Grass will allow you to have bad form. Concrete will punish hard landings. Once you can do short runs and you feel great. Slowly increase it! I started June 23rd. Just did my first 25k trail run. And now I run 5k a day lots of days! Just since this past summer. Vibram 5 fingers are my favourite. But I started with $27 water shoes from amazon.

I see no reason why you can’t be competitive as a barefoot runner. I am determined to prove that. I was never winning races before, but I am dead set on checking off that box before I die. Would love to come back with real evidence (ie a new personal best) to prove to myself and others that I’m not just crazy. I think the best way to change peoples minds is to let the results speak for themselves.

@@zachearth2627 Lol I have kinda plateaued in times over this 2nd year since that comment, but all in the name of progress and still fired up. Got 1st in a parkrun 5k on January 1st. Only 49 runners and self proclaimed as not a “race”, but was proud of the win and it was a weird feeling approaching the finish line knowing I was the first person for the first time in my decade plus of running and like 1000 5ks. Only ran 21:06 and got lucky considering how often it’s like 17 min to win. Still 2+ minutes from where I used to be in shoes, but oh so close to breaking 20 again for so long and just need to be patient.

I'm turning 57 this year and I have used merrell vapor gloves and pure barefoot. I feel pure barefoot is the best way to cure plantar fasciitis and getting rid of heel spurs. The skin picks up serious information and the tendons, muscles and joints, all benefit and circulation is better. Plus your feet won't get sweaty. It does take practice and I can run barefoot over different asphalt, gravel and dirt trails. Becareful of hot asphalt. Run in the morning or evening.
