Hiking the O Circuit alone in Patagonia! (How was it really?)
Are you thinking about hiking the O Circuit in Chile? Well, I was too since first visiting Torres Del Paine National Park back in 2015 to hike the W-Circuit. This time I would return to Chile to hike the O-Circuit and let me tell you it was a great decision!
Join me in today’s video where I will show you what it’s like preparing for the trek in Puerto Natales, Chile where I rented my gear and stocked up on food and snacks ahead of heading to the park to the experience of each day hiking throughout the beautiful Torres Del Paine National Park on the O Circuit. Let's go!

I lived in Buenos Aires for a year. I work with PwC India and was in Argentina for a secondment. I lived in Avenida Libetador, close to Bario Chino. Coming from India, I could relate to each of the 16 points you mentioned. But I am still in love with the country, the people and their friendly nature. Can't wait to return to Argentina again. Mucho amor y paz mis amigos de Argentina.
Happy to hear that you can relate and also had a great one year living in Buenos Aires, Argentina!!
Hi
Hello! Great video! Can you advise if it’s worth doing both Mini Trekking and Todos los Glaciares boat trip? Thank you
I only did the mini trekking so sorry I can’t give advice on the comparisons between those two. Hope you can find someone who can!! Enjoy the trip!!
About the concept of eating early. Historically, many Americans lived on farms and worked long days in agriculture. Farmers would rise early, eat a substantial breakfast, and then have dinner soon after finishing their work, often before sunset. The shift to 9-5 factory work during the Industrial Revolution introduced structured working hours. Factories often had shifts that ended in the late afternoon, leading workers to eat dinner soon after returning home. This schedule is currently less common in large, more diverse American cities, but is still ingrained with most of America's geographic areas.
Thanks for the comment!
I moved from Australia to Buenos Aires for 2 years in 2012. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I met so many great people that I’m still friends with. Argentines pride themselves on being loyal, kind and generous friends - and they truely are. I miss Argentina and the wonderful 2 years that I sent there.
Hey mate! Glad to hear you had a great time living there for two years. I was fortunate to live in your country for 1.5 years and AR for a year so can make the comparison between the three. I agree with your comments!
@ Australia and Argentina are surprisingly similar, I felt so at home there. Argentine people are friendly, informal and outward looking, like Australians. Australia has more of the cool English cultural and Argentina has more of the warm Italian cluture, which I loved. I really hope Argentina finds its way back to being a major economy in the world.
Yes, i hope Argentina finds its way back in that aspect as well!!
I loved Torres del Paine better than Argentina ….
Yes, it was a great experience! Where did you go in Argentina for comparison to TDP?
Great video! Amazing views! You explained everything so well; makes us want to do this hike!
Thank you! 🙏 and that’s great to hear!
Is exploring Chilean Patagonia on your hiking list? ⛰️ If so pop your questions below! Cheers!
Fantastic video man, your content is simply amazing!
Thank you!
"optionality" - my guy this is a great video but you could've just said options 😅
😂😂 probably. Lol.
I live in Sydney most of my life, i wouldn't live in either of these suburbs - the people are awful, bigoted and self centered, the only advantage of the beach is in summer months otherwise its too cold - both are stuck in time warps and need high rise redevelopment
People are cleaning after their dogs
Good to hear! I think it all depends on the neighborhood (barrio) from my experience!
I am currently on the Brazilian side and let me tell you something. It’s the end of November 2024 and it’s certainly cheaper to stay in the Brazilian side compared to the Argentinian site.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing with everyone. Is it just the accomodation that’s cheaper or the food/drink rates are good as well?
@@DontWonderExplore all of the above. Though I am yet to go to the falls itself which is the only reason I flew from Buenos Aires to here. My first time visiting both countries. A little nervous because everyone’s giving a different suggestion and instructions of how you should do the Iguazu falls visit. I guess I will just uber head out from my hotel. But yeah food and hotel prices are definitely cheaper than that of in Buenos Aires
@adtekguide interesting. Yeah the first and only time I stayed on both sides of the falls was back in 2015 and I think then the prices were similar to each other. When we did the falls from the Brazilian side we stopped there on our way from Argentina and had negotiated with a taxi driver to then take us onward later that day to our hotel in Foz de Iguacu.
@adtekguide the hotel prices I’m talking about are comparing Puerto Iguasu and Foz de Iguasu… the two cities on either side of the falls… NOT comparing to the capital city of Argentina’s prices lol. If that is what you were thinking. Hope that helps, but it doesn’t sound like you are staying on the Argentine of the falls at all so possibly irrelevant to your trip. Enjoy!
Oh, man! I moved out of Buenos Aires when I was around 25 (centuries ago!). Some of my shocks when moving to Los Angeles: - Ask how far a place is and get an answer in time (I didn't ask how long it would take to get there!). Now I do it all the time. - Dinner around 6, when the sun is still up? C'mon! Another one I got used to. - Attempting to cross a street, I got down from the curb, waiting for my moment to run across. All cars came to a screeching halt. I was so embarrassed! - No night life, unless you go to Hollywood or similar. After 40+ years here, it's more like: nah, I don't need that, time for bed! But, still ... There are many beautiful places to visit; not only in the city, but all around the country! I hope you enjoy it!
go over cost more next time
Happy to answer any questions you have in the comments here! Thanks
The big question I have is how hard is it to score an Argentine girlfriend? Is she expensive to maintain?
😂😂😂
@@DontWonderExplore That's your answer?
lol. If you’re serious type into UA-cam dating in Argentina and there are channels about this. I only came across it as it came up when I was comparing my culture shocks video to many other popular AR based videos on UA-cam. All the best and enjoy Argentina!
I can't break my Argentine GF from eating at 10-11 at night! I get off work and come home I wanna eat!
I hear you man!
Great video buddy but tip for all Americans, DO NOT try using the city names in their language just say Milan or Venice otherwise you just sound like you think you can say them but are just pronouncing them wrong
Use Maya eSIM Instead of Airalo eSIM
Why is that?
Awesome
Thanks! Any questions just let me know! Cheers.
You have a genuine gift for this type of media. I’m rarely impressed by content creators, but you always make me smile.
Thx
Awesome video …. bTW … look up the origin of the word Patagonia. ;)
Thanks
Americans have culture shocks everywhere. What else would you expect from a country with no culture?
Haha. I would disagree. I personally have been to a good amount of countries & it really depends. You’re generalizing 330million people to be fair. AND as someone who has lived abroad extensively I’d agree with you that there are richer cultures than the USA but that doesn’t mean the USA has no culture. Have you been to the USA? and what makes you feel there is no culture exactly? I’m curious.
@ first of all let me apologise for hurting your feelings and those of Americans. I’ll do that with these words: the thing I like best about America is the people, I truly love them and to prove it I have been to America five times. Let me try to get my meaning across. I do believe that by intention, yes I do wear a tin hat, americans were educated into a world of their own. They were and are isolated. They have very little exposure to old world and other cultures except through immigration that is why you have your own ‘’football’’ and measurement system, your fahrenheit and your 16th of an inch. And you are taught a system of reading whereby you can only understand English and cannot pronounce a word that is not English. I have seen talkshow hosts literally unable to read a word just by its syllables. Everywhere in the world,in the west at least, any word even Polish can be read by its syllables. it is not the fault of the American people, but of those who use the American state as their own private Militia. Americans are victims: just look at their health statistics and their size. I have been to 80 countries and speak seven languages.
@inttubu1 eloquently said. AND happy to hear that you actually have been to the states before criticizing it because I’ve met many people who criticize but have not actually been. This is a long long debate. All I’ll share is I do believe the U.S. has a culture, and I’ve debated this often with many foreign friends. Every country has a culture , and in the U.S.’ case it’s a young country that was built on immigration so of course it’s not going to have a singular identity like say Japan when you think of history/culture in that light. All the best. Thx for the commentary, & enjoy your travels!
@@DontWonderExplorel concur. You can’t exist at least in the modern form for 400 years and not have a culture. In fact, the culture proves my point that America has been isolated. I’m into currencies and used to be amazed that no mention at all is made of them on American TV.
@@inttubu1arrogant much?

I also live in colorado but the mountains here are so much diffrench
Yes they are different. Beautiful in a different way in my opinion and it seems like more hikes away from ski resorts, but to be fair I haven’t lived in the mountains in Italy or anywhere else in Europe so I’m sure one could find more hikes away from the crowds
Very enjoyable
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
I've been there 6 times visiting my wife's family. Going again in December for 3 weeks. It's super amazing to just hang out there!
That’s great! Are you referring to Bueno’s Aires or visiting Argentina in general? Any favorite foods you always have when visiting?
@@DontWonderExplore B.A. is much safer than many US cities and probably more safe than Columbia for sure. My favorite place in Buenos Aires to hang out and eat is Buller's it's right in front of Recoleta Cemetery. I always have there over fire pepperoni pizza with olives and Honey beer that they make in house. There's a few other places that we dine at but believe me when I tell you you'll find numerous places with great food in B.A. look for those packed with people the locals know where to go. I'll be there over Christmas with my 6 year old daughter if you want to meet up in Recoleta sometime. LOL Also trake the double decker bus tour you'll love it!
Thanks for sharing! I’m not there at the moment and won’t be there for Christmas this year, but thanks for the offer and I hope you enjoy it!
Sharing the same drink same straw?
Personally I’m not a BIG fan of sharing the straw or bombija , BUT I know it’s cultural. You?
Yo Brian, Lucas from Carina in Zermatt here ! Nice to hear for you and keep exploring !
Lucas! How’s it going man? Hope you’re well! Thx for the message and yes down here in NZ at the moment exploring! Where are you these days?
@@DontWonderExplore I'm in Paris for a while managing a restaurant soon ! Let me know if you pass back in europe
Nice! Hope you’re enjoying their adventure. Sounds good. Will do!
Hey thanks so much for the info on your vid. Question: Can you take the trip from El Calafate to El Chalten, do the Fitz Roy trekking and get back to El Calafate in one day?
You’re welcome! Glad you found it helpful! If you have your own car it’s most likely possible depending on how early you’re willing to start (not subject to bus schedules and all) & if you’re in good shape/a conditioned hiker then you can move pretty quickly through the hike. For me the hike was average difficulty… so not too bad. Nothing technical at all. I’d just chart this out on Google maps if you’re willing to rent a car and drive then I’d say that’s your best option for a quick “long” day trip!
@@DontWonderExplore My thought was to do Perritos Moreno which is 8 hours that leaves the hotel which I will be staying at the same one you did and be back before 4 PM. There is a bus that leaves El Calafate with the same company that does Perritos Moreno to El Chalten at 6 PM so I thought I'd take it and get to El Chalten by 9 PM and spend the night in a hostel there and get up around 6 AM or 7 no later and do the trek which would get me back to the hostel way before 6 PM that evening which is the time for a return trip back to El Calafate to spend the night back at America Del Sur Hostel and fly the next day to Bariloche.
Sounds doable! Only thing I might confirm , if it was me, maybe is with the Perito Moreno company asking if they are ever behind schedule getting you back into town in El Calafate and if not it sounds like you’re good to go and this plan would be solid!!
Would you suggest staying in El Chalten or El Calafate? I want to go to Perino Moreno Glacier and also take hikes in El chasten. I will be three days in Patagonia before returning to Buenos Aires in March. Also, what would weather be like then?
@iglesialakenona7580 okay. There days… yeah if you book things ahead… then you can max out that time! You only need one full day in Calfate to perito Moreno experience… so if you can get in at night, next day do perito Moreno, and then try to catch a later bus to Chalten or first thing the next morning… it’s all going to depend on what bus schedules you can get and how you line them up with your RT flights out of el Calafate. And weather in March I’m not sure. I’d google it. Best of luck!!
If Queenstown, New Zealand is on your list of travel places comment below… 👇 I’d be happy to help you plan your trip!
If you're using a US phone, Wassap calls are free (with my plan), but regular calls are 25₵/min. Regular calls to back home are free if you're on Wi-Fi, but not calls to Argentine numbers.
Yes WhatsApp “free” features are wrapped into many phone provider plans in Argentina in my experience, which is different from the USA. And also WhatsApp calls over WiFi are free to anywhere in the world when using data. Otherwise, Skype is a good prepaid option for calling landlines or businesses that don’t use WhatsApp abroad.
If 60% of the people have Italian roots, it's no wonder that everybody has a bidet!
🤣 yes there is the connection! I agree! ☝️
Conjugation and placement of accents on verbs is also different.
Thanks for adding this comment!
Dude the loud background music in your videos along with your low volume, low voice makes it very hard to hear what you are saying. Audio wise its like standing in the middle of a club and trying to hear somebody that is standing 10 feet away from you. I recommend for your kind of voice using an actual microphone right next to your mouth and no background music. Dont worry. You wont seem boring in silence because to the listener its about what you say and not the constant cutaways. Its just too much overproduction for an aural information video. In other words, you focus too much on the visuals instead of the vocal audio which is the most important part.
Hey! Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I actually have a lav mic on in this video, but need to re-adjust the levels for future videos! Cheers.
would this feel like a king suite for you too after sleeping many nights in a tent?
30 minutes late is not a big deal for me. I know someone that is always 3-4 hours late. LOL. I told her we cannot meet anymore--we need to do FaceTime going forward. I can't wait around for fours hours for anyone...
Haha yes FaceTime sounds ideal! And waiting four hours is too much!
Manly to deewhy and further to palm beach is a way more good coastal walk than bondi to coogee❤
Haha. That’s a much further walk too… I think 🤔. They are different. I liked both of them for their own character!
MANLY - end of discussion 😂❤
Hahaha yes I really enjoyed living there!
You Deserve more recognition
Thank you! 🙏
Is hiking in Patagonia on your bucket list?
@@DontWonderExplore I may be moving to Argentina, soon, so it’s possible I will get to visit the “creepy” named place.
@Oracle4DeAtlantis lol
