You’re not wrong, but you’re looking at it from a “making money/good business” point of view. Nintendo have always been like this, since they got in the video game industry. My guess is that it’s because of some incomprehensible, old Japanese mentality or way of doing things.

I think the problem for nintendo is more with licensing. Chinese clone companies don't GAF. But yeah, i LOVE my rg35xx+ ;)

Honestly - they’re too late. Retroid Pocket and Odin 2 Pro can do up to PS2. After PS2 all you really need is a Steam account. But you can also use moonlight to stream. Boom, you’re done - basically all of video game history on one device.

Yeah. I agree man. I mean Nintendo did come out with the NES and SNES classic, they could've easily come out with something similar for their portable systems. I guess they'd rather have their games behind a pay wall and a subscription service. Not only do you have companies like Ambernic picking up the slack but there are also things like the Analogue Pocket and the Mod Retro, for those who still have cartridges. The retro market is going crazy right now. Not only are retro inspired indie titles doing arguably better than some triple A titles, but dig around and check out what the homebrew scene is doing for these vintage game systems and gawk at how the limits of these old consoles are being pushed. It's truly something to marvel at. If Nintendo or any other game company that has a past in retro gaming were smart, they'd seek these guys out and partner with them instead of trying to stamp them out, but it is what it is. One thing I've yet to see these retro handhelds fully tackle is dual screen stuff. It'd be interesting if the Switch 2 adds a way to play some classic DS/3DS titles on their online service. But even then, I feel like one of these retro handheld Chinese companies will somehow do a better job lol. I guess we'll just have to wait and see! Interesting topic man :).

I just finished playing emerald legacy (mostly emerald but with quality of life features) on my rg35xxsp.

I wanna say this is more of a review of the RG35XXSP, but the fact that you’re loving it as much as I do brings me joy. I just recently brought it too, on amazon, with like a whole other set up for $190 roughly (Which I have the money for anyways), and this thing can do so much, that I actually can’t wait to get another Anbernic physical handheld emulator again at some point. The SP is easily S tier in my book, and the fact that I’m just as easily able to download games onto it, record those games, upload them to my channel, and have fun… I wanna say something about this. The price for the original SP goes for anywhere between $125 - $150 on Amazon, refurbished, and renewed. This, goes for $65 - 90! I, 100% think it’s a worthwhile investment. I have like, two to three DS’s, that I have to Homebrew at some point, just so I can go out of my way to emulate most of the games I wanna play, and a lot of what Anbernic holds, allows me to give me the choice of emulation, without having to hack into them. I might as well still Homebrew them at some point, But I’m loving Pokemon Ruby in my SP, and I would 100% suggest anyone to get this whenever they have the time and money. Doesn’t matter the color, as long as you can take care of it, and it works, that’s all that should matter.

I agree with you partially. You don't feel satisfaction because you are buying the wrong devices. I bought for me and my son the AYN Odin 2 and I can tell you, my friend, that we are more than satisfied. The power of this thing is unbelievable. This is just one device for all systems, including Switch. The Retroid Pocket 5 is probably the second best alternative. We are done with buying new devices, Odin 2 is the one for me and my son.

I bought the RG40XX line for xmas presents for my family and have had to send 2 of the 3 back due to the screens breaking. I might have to send another one back for screen issues too! The buttons and feel of these handhelds are great but, they need to figure out the screen problems!

I started on the 35XXH but ended up not really liking the shape of the device and the loud inline shoulder buttons but now I'm pretty fulfilled with the CubeXX for GB/GBC(has dual joysticks for other systems just like the 35XXH) and the 34XX for GBA. I skipped the 35XXSP because I didn't want a horizontal handheld and the buttons were way too loud. If I get another handheld it's either going to be the Switch 2, the rumored new PS Vita 2/Portable 2, or Steam Deck 2.

i completely agree with you. whenever we want something, we should wait a month or so to see if the feeling passes, as well as make a pros and cons list to think to yourself: "Would I still be happy with this after a week of two of ownership?" i've limited my spending by a lot since adopting this mentality. thank you for the video!

I've been saying the same thing for a while now. They could have made similar devices this whole time. E-devices would have been great to just download old games at a lower cost. I know they had the ds, and 3ds. But Nintendo has a habit of trashing their older systems. Leaving them unsupported. The truth is Nintendo really just doesn't give a fig. Later.

The key is to cut off any online handheld content you consume, and especially, social media groups or forums where you get to show these off, after you get your one handheld you are sufficiently content with, and devote that energy to playing games on that one device instead. Many people will say "Ohh I HAD to buy this because this has so much better screen/controls/chipset than what I already have" when in reality its purely FOMO-driven after watching like back to back Russ and Wulffden videos on a new shiny device, or after seeing your favourite forum being filled with posts like "Got my Yiyuu Micro 4357...I love it, it is perfect!". Then they panic buy that device, and make a post themselves, continuing the full circle. For many people, these become drawer e-waste after a few days/week/months(at most) when the initial thrill is gone.

They are selling nostalgia. It's the same thing why original working hardware are expensive. Or why preserved/restomod cool old cars are commanding Huge pricetag. I have the original Game boy DMG in in 1994 as a kid. And I played 4-6 hours a day with that during school break. Modern retro handhelds from anbernic, trimui is inexpensive but very good quality. Hard to resist to get them all. Hehehe

Bro you don’t have to but them all😂. I love Anbernic producing these consoles at a 50-100 $ per unit. I have the Gameboy unit and will only buy the new Gameboy advance unit when it drops to around $50 on AliExpress which it will. Those 2 are the only handhelds I need for nostalgia purposes. Both at $50 dollars each and that is a reasonable price. What has been a waste of money for me is a PS5 and Xbox series S both of which I don’t have the time to play anymore.

I 1000% agree with this. I bought an odin pro v1 thinking that’s all i needed because it could run p2 on down with light switch and instantly bought another just to get the better graphics and easier use for those systems then i loaded the emulators on my MacBook Pro still didn’t feel fulfilled then i added some to my phone. Mind you i Also pay for gamepass ultimate and GeForce now. New games aren’t as good as the old games but old games don’t feel the same bc we already beat them. Some games that i haven’t played in 10 plus years are great now like force unleashed 1&2 and marvel ultimate alliance 1&2 but overall I mainly played sports games and rpgs and older sports games arent as fun unless its a pro wrestling game with characters no longer put into games. Or most older rps that had a continuous story has been remastered if they were actually really good.

100% Selling nostalgia, I agree. Kinda burned on Anbernic at the moment after my SP hinge split, so I am on the fence about picking up the GBA form factor one they recently dropped. I do have a FunkeyS Clone that uses an original gba shell with a 3.2inch screen that is a standard gba 3:2 ratio. So a custom lens is needed but it scratches that GBA itch for me that I have been trying to get for a while. I have been collecting for a while, I have too many handhelds, so I know this pain you speak of. This Funkey GBA Clone feels like the one for GBA for me. I even slapped in a cartridge to give it a more authentic feel. It has been a bit of a challenge to source more of them, as I ordered one and the listing was deleted after. New year new you, don't buy all the consoles that release, reduce your game lists to 20-25 games per system and dedicate those systems to handhelds you already may have. The 1:1 screen devices are my go to for 8:7 SNES content and some 10:9 GB/GBC The 4:3 screen devices are my go to for PS1 and N64 The 3:2 screen devices are my go to for GBA If you load them all up to the brim with games you will never play any of them and will probably only play the same 5-10 games across all your handhelds. Less is more. This is my experience so far and the ways I have found to actually play the games and enjoy them. On another note have you tried Perfect Emerald yet? A bit different but good overall. Emeralds double battles are cool but annoying at times. Still a great game to this day.
