We received this 1958 recording from North Carolina DJ and Buddy Holly fan Charlie Brown (www.onthebeachwithcharliebrown.com). It was recorded in Norfolk, Virginia, when Charlie and his friend Ronnie King worked on a high school teen radio program, and were able to go backstage to do interviews at touring shows. Amazing to hear the ever down-to-earth Buddy in such clarity! © Charlie Brown 1958 ...

Buddy musical can u upload the third part of Maria Elena interview please we love buddy and hopefully u can interview the boopers grandkids and Richie’s sister for history but please I’ve been waiting for years for the 3rd part
This man was a true genius.
he is like a myth and legend to hearing him just talk is crazy
Thank you! I believe this is the first time I’ve heard Buddy speak. Just seems like a bright down home boy!
this is amazing
The day the music died. He was so good and so far ahead of his time.
1:08 lol
Will the show visit Denmark?
Whoever cast those two has obviously never seen a photo of the real Buddy.
He looks so handsome in this picture. His voice and laugh, no wonder it was love at first sight for Maria Elena.
RIP Buddy Holly (1936-1959) A victim onboard a Beechcraft Bonanza which crashed in Grant Township, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, U.S. due to following loss of control in poor weather at night.
That’ll Be the Day is one of the top ten greatest rock 'n roll songs ever. It still hits the spot. Buddy Holly and the Crickets is probably the most influential rock band of all time. The Beatles claim them as a major influence, as do so many others. Rock On, Buddy!
That was AWESOME!!! a really good short interview. musicians would always have such tight schedules you would have to squeeze in an interview whenever you could. wish there was more of this. Buddy Holly was fantastic he is definitely missed.
That is not Buddy Holly. FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
👋
Such a nice guy
Buddy had a beautiful speaking voice too. I love his laugh.
Great interview. I could listen to it all day.the audio is so clear.what ever happened to buddy holly’s guitars 🎸
Imagine being able to reel off seven or eight classic songs you wrote in one sentence at the age of 22.
and then after that sentence he mumbled soon to be released "Well Alright" that Santana made big. Just astonishing how talented that man was at so young and not even in his prime years yet.
The 1978 movie with Gary Busey is good, but Buddy needs another, new movie! Also interesting about his comments on jazz here, when shortly before he passed away, he moved to New York City and began to immerse himself in the jazz scene. What could’ve been…
Wow. I saw Alex as Buddy in London while I was working at Wimbledon, 1993, 1994, 1995. Went every year. He was amazing. My family came over and saw it. The best musical I've ever seen. It was memorable. Taking my family, my mother and sister and her husband to it was the best of it.
Buddy Holley was considered a huge star in the UK he was well thought of
Buddy Holly was the OG of rock and roll in the 50s Elvis was more of a singer and mainstream but Buddy was doing proto punk rock. But at 22 you barely know anything just imagine if Buddy had lived to see the 60s cause I know he was wild anyways, poor guy.
If you get the chance, visit the Buddy Holly Center and his gravesite in Lubbock, Texas. The BH Center is a wonderful museum with lots of artifacts from his life. They have his motorcycle, quite a few of his clothing items, his famous glasses, and some of his personal correspondence with representatives from his record label. Unfortunately, taking photos and video inside the exhibit area is not permitted. His gravesite is also in Lubbock and is worth visiting. He was 22 when he died. As of 2023, he wound be 87. RIP Buddy Holly.
Saw the show in Skegness. Cracking time, all extremely talented. Great show.
Wow. Thanks for posting
Loved the opening night in Blackpool...well done everyone
You know, there's a movie of his life. 💕
Random observation: Buddy’s speaking voice has an eerily similar tone as that of the late Gram Parsons’.....or vice versa.
Just listening to his songs and then his real voice can give you a picture of his talent. Poor dude died at the Age of 24. RIP.
Buddy holly was 22 when he passed
@@darkash900 Right.......... yeah I am sorry mate. So did not actually check his age at the time of his death, instead i just calculated in which he year he was born and in which he died. Now that I think of that too was wrong. Anyways I will be editing this comment so anyone who reads this, give some credit to @darkash900.
I'm so in love with Buddy that my womb hurts. ❤
Wow! This tape is so clear! Awesome! I wonder if I play it over and over if he’d join me in my living room? Who knows? Paranormal things do happen! 😛
For a high school kid, Ronnie King did a nice interview. Today's "journalists" always ask long, rambling questions that funnel the subject into a predetermined angle instead of letting them say whatever comes to mind.
buddy was so cool
That is Waylon Jennings, buddy Holly was a high pitched voice
That is Buddy Holly.
This literally sucks!! 2 over the top and extra
His laugh is heaven.
Amazing. From Itu, São Paulo, Brasil. Buddy Holly forever.
It should be noted, as it usually is not, that the photo used here was taken in Waterloo, Iowa, at The Electric Park Ballroom, by Dick Cole.
I have CHILLS
The day the music died...
How different would the world be now if he had not died in 1959. Impossible to say.
Didn’t want this interview to end. Knowing what ended up happening months later… I just want to cry and say “Buddy, please don’t go!” Such a kind and wonderful person.
Heartfelt words mate and well said, know what you mean, best wishes from the UK.
I'M CRYING TOO ...@@tonybatley6101
When he said “I’m 22” my heart sank… especially since the quality is so good, it feels like you time traveled to 1958 and listen to this, and you know what’s going to happen but you can’t change it… poor guys
Sounds like a great title for a song!
He was an incredibly talented songwriter . Buddy definitely would have survived the Beatles and British Invasion.
Holly comes across as down-to-earth in this rare interview in the fall of 1958--quite a gentlemanly contrast from his dynamic presence on stage. So sad he never got to develop his career further. Rock on, Buddy! 😢😿🎸🎸🎶🎵
Incredible sound. Sounds like it recorded yesterday!!
Buddy gives off "nerdy guy that gets all the girls" vibes
Buddy was a beautiful person inside and out. There will never be anyone else like him. ❤️
The sound is so clear I love hearing him. So sad he died so young 😪
The recording is incredible!
