7 Must-See Fall Hikes in the Adirondacks
You did well with Louis Seymour,s early history!
I enjoy your videos! Have you ever thought of doing an episode on Willet Randall the founder of the Patch hound beagle strain ?
It’s Cold River
Wow. Thank you. Do. Much ❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a nice tribute to your uncle Don and all those who served. Thanks
Great story. There doesn’t seem to be a shortage of creepy mysteries from the Adirondacks. No wonder you’re a little paranoid about walking alone in the woods .
Her cabin is in the Adirondack Experience in Blue Mountain Lake. I paddled out to her old cabin site on Twitchell Lake a few years ago.
How wonderful, I would have loved to see that. I visited the Adirondack Experience this past summer, but unfortunately, I had no idea who she was. She was an awesome woman! Thanks for commenting. :)
Never EVER go out alone l, or with others, WITHOUT a personal locator beacon! It is potentially DEADLY not to.
With today's technology, I think you are right about that. Thanks for commenting!
Fascinating story. I’ve heard references to the disease typhoid and Typhoid Mary but never heard the real story. Thanks
I had never heard about it before either. They say history repeats itself - I think this is one example. Thanks for commenting.
Ann great video. Just keep walking. Even when you are away for winter. I am 65. Used to backpack and hike a lot. Been up Mount Marcy a few times but today long distance and hikes with elevation are very hard for me. I do try to walk 30 minutes a day just to get some movement in.
Thanks so much! Yes, I’ll definitely keep walking, even in the winter. You’ve done some serious hiking-Mount Marcy a few times is no joke! I know what you mean about those big hikes get harder, but that daily 30-minute walk still makes a difference. I just have to keep going until it becomes a habit. It’s great to hear from someone who loves the outdoors like I do! Thanks for your support and encouragement!
fun video! I live in Michigan but have been to the Adirondacks many times....I was hoping to get there this summer, but it wasn't to be. The last time I was there was 2012. We've been camping around the woodstock area more recently because my wife loves the area and have friends that live just outside woodstock. Hoping to get back to the adirondacks next summer!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! It’s too bad you couldn’t make it this summer, but there's always next year. Woodstock’s a great spot too, especially with friends close by. Hoping you and your wife make it back to the Adirondacks soon. There’s nothing quite like the mountains! Thanks for commenting!
Will you make it?... Well, chances are you should make it depending on some factors (Your health & safety, Obtaining security devices & equipment, Having weapons for protection against any & all threats against bears & bad people, and the duration of the hike to determine the amount of water & sustenance needed if any).... Enjoy your hikes!!!
I’m just starting out with small hikes and working on shaking off the fears-bears, other wildlife, and, yeah, any “bad people” out there too! Trying to get more comfortable and build up my confidence with each hike. Thanks for the tips-they’re very helpful as I get started!
I really enjoyed your video today. I love walking in the woods too and when I start getting a little tired and winded I look for a spot to sit for just five minutes and that helps me get my second wind and regather my thoughts. Maybe some bear spray would ease your worries about the bears. Thanks for sharing the video. I pray that things turn around for your friend.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Taking a break like that to catch your breath is a good idea, I'll have to start doing the same. I'm not sure where to buy bear spray but I do think it would ease some of my worries. I don't think I can buy it on Amazon, but I'll certainly look for some in Florida. And thank you for the prayers, my friend could really use them right now. Thank you for your support!
Hailing from Cornwall 🇨🇦
Cornwall, Canada! 🇨🇦 That’s awesome! Thanks for tuning in from such a beautiful part of the world. 😊
Ann organize a hiking group to meet and hike. Get a large dog. Yes, I follow David Paulides 411 Missing:)
A hiking group sounds awesome! Maybe someday, but for now, I’d probably slow everyone down with all the breaks I take. I used to have a dog back in the day, and having a big furry buddy on the trails would be perfect. Just taking it solo for now, one step at a time! I’d never heard of David Paulides before, but I’ll definitely look into his work now-sounds fascinating! Thanks for mentioning him!
Hello, Ann. I'm 84 and hike alone. Never used to bother me to be alone deep in the forest. Wasn't concerned with unsavory humans or with bears or cats. However, this past year I have become overly conscious of the dangers of the unknown. I have 'bear bells' attached to my treking pole, still I am not totally comfortable with being alone. That said, I have not found anyone who wants to hike out of their comfort zone. So I go it alone. Enjoy every moment out there. Being in the forest refreshes my soul and when I'm able to quell my fears, I really do feel I am a part of nature and that brings me peace.
Hello! It’s inspiring to hear you’re still out there, enjoying the forest solo at 84-that’s incredible! I get what you’re saying about being more aware of the “unknown” lately. Sounds like the bear bells are a smart addition, I surely can relate to not always feeling totally at ease. That peaceful connection with nature is so special, though, isn’t it? It really does refresh the soul in a way nothing else can. Thanks for sharing your experience-it’s encouraging, and I hope I can keep hiking just like you for years to come!
I'll take all the isolation I can get. Away from the psychopaths walking around today. I don't mind being alone I love it. I garden, I am an avid reader, I like to cook and cross-stitch. I'll take nature and all the critters over people any day.
I’m with you! There’s something priceless about the peace of being alone, surrounded by nature instead of the chaos of people. Sounds like you’ve got the perfect setup-gardening, reading, cooking, cross-stitching-everything you need to stay happily self-sufficient and grounded. I agree, give me the critters and the quiet any day! 😊

I have a correction, folks! It was 600,000 acres that burned in the Adirondacks, not 600. Sorry. :(
your never alone in the woods thiers bears wolves, coyotes, cougars and BIGFOOT, enjoy
lol That's what I'm afraid of! Mostly the bears, the others I think I can handle. Even Bigfoot! lol
I like your voice so I subbed. Stayed for the story

Hello Ann, ntmu. The foliage is pretty, also seems like a great park. Enjoy the walks.
Hello, nice to meet you as well. I'm afraid the foliage is not going to last much longer, but it sure was pretty while it lasted. Thank you for visiting my channel. :)
Unfortunately, this stuff is still going on.Everyday another news story.Lewiston Maine ,just had a 1 year anniversary of that disaster! So sad, when innocent lives are lost.Glad I found you,Ann! P.S. I notice your initials are A.A.-HA!
Hi Thomas, it is awfully sad when these types of things happen. I think the Maine disaster was one of the worst I've ever seen. And, I agree, it is still going on, perhaps even worse. Yep, AA, haha, Thanks for watching!
The level of evil a human is capable of, keeps me a bit distant to strangers, not proud of that reaction but seemingly wise. Trust seems in short supply lately. Our innocence and peace are casualties of a twisted few. Thankfully I see such goodness often enough to not loose my humanity. Thanks
You said it well. It’s hard to stay open when you know what some people are capable of. A little distance feels smart, even if it’s sad. But I’m with you-seeing the good in people keeps me from losing hope. Thanks for sharing that; it’s good to know others feel this way too.
Yes, the local people must have been terrified! Thanks for sharing your stories.🙏💕
I remember when the two convicts escaped from Dannemora. I kept thinking I would see them standing in front of my window. lol I was very happy when they were caught! Thanks for watching. :)
nice video
Thank you. It was a lot of fun out there today! And thank you for commenting. :)
Hey Ann, thanks for the video, felt like I was there. I sometimes talk to myself while hiking. There is no place like the woods!! Surprised that they take such good care of the tails. Shame about your handyman friend, I hope he recovers soon. Stay wonderful.
Thank you! I totally agree-there’s nothing like the woods. Glad you enjoyed the video, and I appreciate your kind words about my friend. Stay awesome and happy hiking!
We HAVE to challenge those irrational fears, or we'll be stuck inside. Not willing to do that. Supporting you to keep going!
Absolutely! We can’t let those fears hold us back. Thanks for the support, and I’m with you-let’s keep pushing forward!
It can be intimidating out on the trail i hike alone a lot also on some very remote trails but I've learned to love the solitude nature and exercise. Keep at it I'm sure you'll build up your stamina and get used to the deep forests of ny they are pretty safe. I stopped worrying about what other people think a long time ago and just take my time and soak up what the trails have to offer.
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! Yes, I love the solitude too. It brings me such wonderful peace and serenity. Thanks for commenting :)
New to your channel Ann, love walking in the woods also! I live in the Catskill Mts. I walk alone too but close to home. I’m 72 yrs and a widow so I don’t always to have someone to walk with. Stay blessed and enjoy! Love your channel.🙏💕
Thank you so much! Walking in the woods is such a wonderful way to find peace. I’m glad you're enjoying the channel, and I love hearing from fellow nature lovers. Stay blessed and take care!
Nice upload my friend! 👏👏
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Join a hiking club,I've found a lot of nice people who share my enthusiasm for hiking there.
Thank you for the suggestion! A hiking club sounds like a wonderful way to meet like-minded people and share the love of the outdoors. I’ll definitely keep that in mind after I get a little stronger.
I think what I like about your videos is your real humble nature. The history of that area and real characters you bring back to life. Even just talking about facing your fears is probably the highest achievement an incarnated soul could aspire to. I think the world is sick and tired of fear. I say to hell with fear. Thanks Ann, God bless you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really touched that the stories and reflections resonate with you. You're absolutely right-facing our fears and letting go of them is one of the greatest things we can do in life. I’m so grateful to share this journey with viewers like you. God bless you too!
French Louie must have been born with multiple abilities that were lacking in most all others. I don’t envy his lifestyle.
French Louie definitely had some unique skills that most people don’t have. It’s impressive, but I agree-his lifestyle isn’t something many of us would want today. It took a lot of toughness to live like that!
Love these documentary style of no nonsense videos and appretiate it very much there was a young man Kenneth McCall who went missing near where I live several years ago this is just outside the blue line of the state park many found it odd that the local authorities denied help from the local fort drum military base to help search and there were odd circumstances to his disappearance
Thank you so much! That’s such a strange and heartbreaking story about Kenneth McCall. I hadn’t heard of his case, but those odd circumstances definitely make it something worth looking into. I really appreciate you sharing this with me-might be a story to dive deeper into in the future.
Very sad story, my heart goes out to his family. What if we could tell the character of a person by the way their dog acts. Fearful and aggressive people turn out to be the worst dog owners. Have blessed day all, peace to all.
Yes, this is very sad. It breaks my heart to see dogs who are neglected or abused. Some people should not have dogs. Bless you as well, and have a good day.
In my opinion if we don't know the exact reason why the guy was on the property we shouldn't judge the dogs or the owner. If the person was there uninvited the dog's did their #1 job protect their family.. but if the guy was supposed to be there then I believe the dogs should have been properly secured if It was known they were aggressive.
Hi, I thought I responded to this but it's not showing up on my feed. I wanted to tell you I agree with you. Hopefully we'll find out more when they complete the investigation. Thanks for commenting.
It has now been confirmed that the victim of the tragic dog attack was James Provost, a 59-year-old from Schenectady. The attack occurred on October 9, 2024, in the backyard of a home on Central Avenue, where Provost was mauled by eight or nine mixed-breed pit bulls. Despite police intervention, where one dog was shot to disperse the others, Provost tragically passed away at the scene. Authorities later found 24 dogs on the property, including 15 puppies, none of which were licensed. The dogs' owner, a resident of Cohoes, is cooperating with the investigation but may face charges. The investigation is ongoing. Stay tuned for further updates as the case develops.
My dad left the Bronx for upstate back in the 50s. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how fortunate I was growing up on the edge of the Adirondacks. Back in 2010, I left upstate NY. Good paying jobs were few and far between. I ended up moving to Wisconsin, where I found a good paying job. I even transferred out of Milwaukee to work in the more rural Waukesha area. Of all the things I miss the most about NY, besides family, it's the Adirondacks. I often refer to upstate Wisconsin as the Flatirondacks. Your story was wonderful and reminds me that city life is not for everyone.
Thanks for sharing your story! It’s amazing how the Adirondacks leave such a lasting impression, no matter where life takes us. Calling Wisconsin the "Flatirondacks" is a perfect touch! City life isn’t for everyone, and I’m glad my story brought back those memories for you.
Thank you Ann, the pictures of those cabins was so nice to see when surrounded by suburbia here. Often wondered how down state folk are accepted by the locals up that way. Though used to being alone most of the time. I wouldn’t wish to be known as the weird hermit city slicker either. Are most people amicable enough. Seen other videos from Idaho and Montana telling out of towners that they are ruining their communities. How did you find that part of the transition.
When I moved from NYC to the Adirondacks, people were generally friendly. As long as you're respectful and appreciate the local culture, folks tend to accept you. If you enjoy your peace and don’t try to change too much, you’ll fit in just fine. People up here value solitude too! And they really have been quite friendly. Always there to give a helping hand.
Only 30 seconds in, and you have summarized it very nicely already! :) :)
Well, thank you. I'm glad you liked it. 😊
Nice video , i love the adirondacks just got back from eighth lake campground...
Thank you. I love camping up here too! There's nothing like the crisp mountain air. It beats any place I have ever been!
why wouldn't you
Because it's too busy in the city. As I've gotten older, I love the peace and quiet the Adirondacks have to offer. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Hello Ann of Adirondacks, thank you for sharing your journey living in this incredible place. You helped reignite a low simmering desire to move there also. So many fond memories were born there for me. Wish me luck; and thank you. I’ll follow along your channel till I get there myself.
Thank you, Daniel. I wish you all the luck in the world in making this life changing decision. If you're anything like me, you'll not regret it. I would love to know when/if you decide to make the move. And thank you for following my channel. 😊
“Beware of over-concern for money, or position, or glory. Someday you’ll meet a man who cares for none of these things, and you’ll see how poor you really are” -Rudyard Kipling
That's such a powerful perspective. It really makes you rethink what truly matters in life beyond the material things!
I envy Noah John Rondeau. Even though he was forced off his land by the very institutions he tried to escape, at least for many years he lived the way he wanted. No wonder he lived to 84! Thanks Adirondack Ann, for telling his story.
Thank you, Tony! Noah John Rondeau’s story really is inspiring-living life on his own terms for so many years, despite the challenges he faced, is something we can all admire. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
It's mind-numbing how the United States government has gotten by with forcing people off their lands with absolutely no consequences for their unlawful evil actions. There is a payday coming. I would venture to say it's already here....
Any photos of the house?
No, I'm afraid not. I searched for it, but the only thing I could come up with is that he might be somewhere around the Old Forge area. I would have loved to find it, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. That's why he's hidden so well, because of people like me. lol
@@AdirondackLegends that's what I thought!
Years ago, I lived in the Adirondacks. I grew up in the Utica/Rome area and spent many summers camping and fishing in the Adirondacks. If I wasn't playing guitar, I was talking pictures in the Adirondacks. I had a friend who used to camp at North Lake. He was retired at the time and would spend the entire summer camping at North Lake. I would stop by and visit occasionally. One day, I continued to South Lake, but the road had a gate. That was the end of my picture taking for that day. I told another friend about it, and he said from that point on is private land owned by the Bacons. I put two and two together and realized that it could be Kevin Bacons' property. If that's true, then good for him. That area is beautiful and secluded. I see him and his wife every now and then on UA-cam and wonder if he's shooting his video from the Adirondacks.

Most of the world's 3rd world and developing worlds population "live off the grid".
Yes, I agree, unfortunately, I think a lot of people in developing countries live "off the grid" because they don’t have access to things like electricity or clean water. It’s not really a choice there-it’s just how they have to live to get by.
@AdirondackLegends It's just funny. The on grid people now want to go off grid. Tired of their grid environment; social and high tech...
@setisuafa-os9tv It does get old. Especially with the cost of everything. Some people just can't afford it anymore.
