We are gathering data on the death dates of these workers to study the impact of job loss of lifespan. This part of the project is using record hints to make sure that each Teamster in the 1900 census is connected to a profile on the Family Tree.

    thank you as always for spearheading this project!!! One suggestion: When correcting the location, put a space after the place instead of typing it out (like you did in the video) and generally the proper name place pops up. From there I then click the proper suggested name. (this is a shortcut I use)

    If this behavior could be fixed, it could solve the issue with OCR struggling to properly read older newspapers where the text is a lot smaller; could potentially help with poor scans as well

    GPT4 also does a good job transcribing and translating foreign language documents such as old baptismal and death records. Regarding transcription inaccuracies, try using a voting machine approach with multiple agents e.g., one to transcribe, one to translate, another to verify, etc. It requires some orchestration but works pretty well.

    This was an amazing presentation. I'm awed by the deep dedication, curiosity, passion and tenacity of Taneya with her newspaper project and Kristin with her work researching orphans of St. Catherine. Even though I live near Disneyland, I had never heard of this facility and its history, but am happy to learn about it now and will visit there to at least get a photo of me outside if possible.

    when adding the place, take a moment to STANDARDIZE ... saves later steps and allows the computer to find more likely HINTS

    • @kathbaker4412
      @kathbaker4412 Рік тому

      you can do that by putting the cursor in the place space and the standardization suggestion replaces the copied from the record place name.

      it does NOT work on marriage date for some reason, even though you standardize it as you apply the hint, you still have to open it up and standardize it
