I'm only an hour into watching this so you may have figured it out but "meditating until next loop" was never part of the intended mechanics, it just happens to work. You can quite clearly "doze off" next to the green fire and that's how the devs meant for the player to fall asleep. Not everyone even has the meditating ability if they haven't spoken to Gabbro enough times. It's an extra trick only some players ever discover during the game.
