This opened my eyes to something I hadn't thought about for a long time. I remember when I was a young high schooler and I was apart of this new social media app at the time, (it's defunct now I think), for artists, writers, and a cozy online community. I met this girl who really liked the way I wrote my short little stories. She felt so sad when she talked about her days at school being scary and terrifying. I told her I felt like that at my own school too (albeit, in a different way). We talked about fantasy stories and fairytales. One day, she said she had to leave the online community because of personal reasons, and she sung a little song for me as a token of our friendship. I didn't realize it at the time. But the song she sang was "Kindergarten Boyfriend." with her own lyrics. From what I remember, "There was a boy I met online here. He was sweet and said that I'm so smart. He's good at socializing and making friends And we would talk all day long But then one day I stopped logging on. Getting caught up with school and family." Ooo Chorus. "can we still be friends?" Of course I said, "always! I'm so happy to see you again!" and then she logged off. I never saw her online ever again. Her profile was replaced with a black screen and blank background last time I checked. I was sad to see her leave, but I understood that sometimes people have lives outside of online servers and that's okay. But today, I came across this video, and I don't know why but I can't stop crying. Now that I know more about the song and the story context behind it. I feel like this song means a lot more now. I hope my friend is okay. I really hope that I'm not overthinking something. Heathers is a pretty R rated movie and the musical I heard stays true to that so why did my 13 year old friend sing that little song with such.. emotion? Thank you for letting me type this.
