    My M1 needs to get the keys sorted, some dont work after I replaced a broken one so i must have not put them back in properly. they are so fiddly, might have to remove all of them, clean em and put back again. Also so annoying how the metal case gets scratched and I don't see how you would repair them or touch them up. I like the wrap but dont want to lose Music Workstation logo/writing on the right side!

      I’ve trapped and bent the leaf-switches before reinstalling keys. They’re quite elastic though and normally return to their required shape. The thin tang on the underside of the keys can catch them.

    I've swapped the battery on my M1 3 days ago. And for the past 3 days I've been trying non stop to MidiOX (&Bome) the Sysex back on. I'm ready to through the bloody thing through the window. Tried several cables. The last one bought by someone who'd left a review saying they'd used it successfully to use it to Sysex the preload back on. Double checked every setting in the process, tried every buffer/delay solution offered in the history of man. It sends. It completes. Go to M1.....still on "init". Nothing loaded. Giving up the will to live. Then I see your vid.....and you just pop em back on! Gutted! What did you use?

      Hi. Sorry about your trouble. When I did a DX7 a few years back, I read that a lot of cheap USB-interfaces don’t talk well with the older kit. So I bought a MidiSport. Maybe it’s the same issue for you. But I used Bome also.

    Good video, gave you a like, but at 9:12 you show a board mounted battery that you are going to put in, and you will backing out the modification that moved the battery off board (usually to a battery holder - which I didn't see so far in your video, I only saw two wires). Many people prefer the modification to have an off board battery holder (mounted in an easy to access area) so the user can simply open up the DX7, pop out the dead battery, pop in a new battery... and Bob's your uncle! No mucky-muck of cliping/desoldering of an old battery. When I put in battery holders, I velcro the holder to the case so if there is a need to remove the circuit board in the future, the battery holder comes off the case with it.

    • @Burfordstechstuff

      Hi Paul. Fair comment. I did consider it but concluded that I probably won’t be doing this in 10 years time and my preference was to restore to original condition. All the best.

    Quick question, when cleaning the keys, you say you're going to wash / soak them in laundry detergent . . . do you mean the stuff you wash your clothes with, if so is this better than simple washing up liquid ? I'm about to do the same thing, any tips would be useful.

    • @Burfordstechstuff

    Hey Tech stuff thanks for this video a tip from a vintage synth enthusiast & not profession Technician many People watching these videos my self included are more interested in finding out How to approach taking it apart them selves so they can do basic repairs on their DX2FD than anything else. So showing the process of unscrewing each section fully is very important to people with limited knowledge on the specifics of this model construction. for example i am searching for what to disconnect and NOT to disconnect to get to the key bed & replace 1 broken key in a straight forward manner. Just food for though for future videos cheers!

      @Burfordstechstuff 5 місяців тому

      Hi. Thanks for your comments. I hear you. Sadly I don’t have the time or the video kit to do the full timelapse piece in disassembly. There’s always a mix of self tapping and machine screws on the DX and I make a diagram of their positions when taking off the base plate. Other than that, when things get complicated, I try to remember to take photos of sub assembly before taking things apart so I can refer to them later. It’s always worth buying a few extra screws I guess. I may do a separate video on disassembly/reassembly techniques and hints. Thanks.

    Thanks mate. I love my silent shredder, its another brand but probably more or less the same. I have neglected it and suspect it will be siezed up also when I use it next. If anyone reads this,my advice is never buy a shredder with a high-speed blade because in my experience so much more goes wrong and they are horrendously noisy. A good silent shredder won't have problems with palm fronds either, particularly if they have been allowed to go brown and brittle.

  • @delscoville
    @delscoville Рік тому

    Unlike most other classic synths, the DX-7 doesn't require regular maintenance for staying in tune, etc. It does however take the electronics maintenance that doesn't happen often like recapping, etc. So as far as a classic synth it's easy to recommend. Especially the DX7-II because the original's membrane controls crack with a lot of use.

    Native instruments FM8 (and Massive) was the absolute foundation of modern bass music (DnB, Dubstep, think Skrillex, Noisia, etc) A DX7 with post processing is a modern bass monster. The DX7 is has never not been relevant. Incredibly modern sounding synth to this day that people discount because the presets are dated. (Tho do go for the II or IIFD like the one in this video. Splits, better MIDI, real buttons)

      After driving out the winter moisture (UK weather) and using it several times this year, I can report some good performance. The feolite cooking surface is heat-hungry and takes about an hour’s burning time to get up to a decent direct pizza cooking heat (250 - 300 C), whilst the dome mid to upper portion gets to 350-400. After pizzas, I’ve successfully roasted meat down the cooling curve and generally after an evening’s cooking, with the door on I can still have 50C 36 hours later.
