Shoot d'sh!t 036 October 18 2021 The Lifesaver Challenge

Just archery, some blather too sometimes, but mostly archery.
I shoot to get better, and to clear my head of the bullshit. So don't expect perfection, it's not my goal.
This channel is just sharing my journey in archery and hoping to inspire someone to pick up a bow along the way.
The videos in my form check playlists are only for my own self checks. So I can assess my form and keep track of my progress. Not really for external critical analysis.
Hopefully the video is somewhat interesting/amusing/inspiring, or at the very least, shows you what NOT to do ;)

      I think that the size of point, arrow diameter, and the size and type of fletching is important. higher power shots might get stopped if the arrows were big, bad assed arrows haha. those skinny arrows used by a lot of folks would probably be looking in the woods for their arrows with high powered bows.

    Hey! 🙂 Found your channel during a search for a review on the Antelope and I must say I found pretty cool stuff in here. Lot of your videos are helpful and I found some cool solutions for some of my issues with draw, etc. I'm going to subscribe - even tho the latest videos are 2yo - , because I like the content, the honesty and the direct style of communication and the reasoning. No BS just honest experience and opinion. Thumbs up!

      @@Coen_Shoots_dsht Nah, don't worry about the videos, health comes first. I myself had some shoulder issues as well, nothing I could do but wait and let it rest. Wishing all the best 👍 Till then, I'll just check out the other videos. I like the fact that there is actually a chronological series of training and development, a totally logical thing to do. Those who are 'confident' enough to create an opinion after watching only one (or two) videos...haha, well, they are the ones who just react, but don't use their brains. I allways thought longbows are quite forgiving...and the black hawk is not?

    • @Coen_Shoots_dsht
      @Coen_Shoots_dsht 10 місяців тому

      I’m my own personal experience, and from everything that I’ve read, recurves are more forgiving that longbows, in general. There will always be exceptions, depending on the brand, set up, and quality of the bow, as well as the experience of the archer. in general though, recurves offer more grace than longbows.

    In my experience recurves are best kept short and recurved. As this is the most idwal set up for speed on them. If you aren't too picky with which bows you shoot and natural look on them. I'd look into hybrids. Not quite recurve and perhaps more longbows. Although they have a reflex deflex(or recurve) in them. So it's a modern day blend of both. There's also plenty out there in the affordable arena and they can go from 60" to about 68" from most ones I've seen or shot. Great choices to a recurve or just another excuse to buy a bow lol.

    Well my friend I hope that six weeks goes quick for you, you will definitely be in my prayers. So exactly what is the point in the plunger is it a type of an Aiming device or just changes whether it is cut past center, less than center. guess I’m not understanding what it’s purposes is, thank you for the close-up appreciate it. Take care my friend God bless. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸

    • @Coen_Shoots_dsht
      @Coen_Shoots_dsht 2 роки тому

      Me too. From what I understand, it reduces contact of the arrow with the bow, and it is adjustable, so that you can change the centre shot position. There’s a spring inside of the plunger that makes the tip that touches the bow move as the arrow passes it… like a cushion, it keeps the arrow clear of the rest and the riser, but minimises the contact with the cushioning…. I think haha

    • @sigmanarchery54
      @sigmanarchery54 2 роки тому

      @@Coen_Shoots_dsht that sounds great but I’m not sure that I understand yet, so it makes the arrow go faster, or it just takes less time to correct itself. Very interesting 🤨👍🏼

    • @Coen_Shoots_dsht
      @Coen_Shoots_dsht 2 роки тому

      I don’t think that it changes the arrows speed, it just reduces the amount of contact between the bow and the arrow, it also gives you the ability to adjust where the arrow sits on your arrow rest relative to the centre, and that will effect whether the arrow hits left, right, or in the middle of your target.

    Given that Thanksgiving is supposed to be about a successful harvest, Canada's timing makes more sense. There's still fresh corn, peaches, etc. I don't know what would be fresh at the end of November. The pacing in Canada allows me to do one holiday/event/festival at a time. Halloween décor goes up after Thanksgiving. I wait until Nov 1st to put on a poppy and Nov 12th (or the first god weather day after) the Christmas lights go up.

    • @Coen_Shoots_dsht

      The only thing I could harvest here in November would be boogers and bad weather haha. I kinda agree with the early October timing. Same here for the other holidays… only I wear my poppy from thanksgiving till nov 11. As soon as they start selling them, I start wearing one… I subscribe to the legion… so mine come early haha.

      Doing that high style of draw made my shoulder injury worse... To the point where I had to stop shooting for a while to recover from it. If you've seen Survivor Lilly's draw, it was something like that. Once I stopped that and switched to the side draw, everything improved and now I don't experience any pain at all. Once archers find the thing that works... everything just starts falling into place for them. Gotta love the groove.

    Cohen I definitely have to agree you can shoot all day long and hit whatever you want and have a nice tight groups, but as soon as you start filming and you’re talking the entire time just seems like you can never hit what you want, but it’s still fun. Also every man should have a Multi tool on them for sure take care my friend God bless. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸

      Sig, I just spent two hours in the yard shootin, and I hit everything I shot at... didn't film a second of it haha. Yup... talking is certainly a distraction. ;) But then... it wouldn't be Coen Shoots d'shit anymore hahaha. ;) It would be... fat, boring, bald dude shooting arrows haha.

    Oh thank you so much Coen for this explanation. I am guilty of commenting on this observation. It now makes sense. by the way I like your journaling your path as you walk, it is refreshing. I am doing similar only writing. I am from Ontario own Kawartha Traditional Archery Center. 30 acre venue for trad shooters only. Also over 60 years of martial arts. Just sold Dojo last year. Anyway I digress. Thanks for sharing Coen it is really enjoyable to watch. Please keep it up.

    You seem to be getting a handle on it good for you. Keep it simple don't overthink it and above all enjoy yourself have fun. Isn't that why we started shooting a stick bow was to enjoy and have fun. It's a never ending learning. Stay safe and thank you.

    When raising your bow it is best to get on line with the target and go straight up to target. You seem to be getting up then moving over sideways to target. Just Saying and Sharing. Coen

      Thanks Fred, but that would hurt my shoulder pretty badly. I raise my bow off to one side avoid inflaming the tendinitis injury in my draw shoulder. It's much more comfortable and there's zero pain when I draw with my elbow 90 degrees from my body, and drawing with my back muscles, rather than using my shoulder to start the draw. Learned to do it from Jake Kaminski, then adapted it to suit my injury. (note... commenting from my other channel... haha oops ;P)

    Cohen I agree with what Alan was saying, it does look like you’re gripping the bow right before you shoot, it’s almost as if you tilt the bow towards the ground right before the air releases. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸

    • @Coen_Shoots_dsht
      @Coen_Shoots_dsht 3 роки тому

      That's exactly what I'm doing Sig. I'm also doing it on purpose :). Got some tips from some folks quite some time ago about bow hand grip and finger pressure that were really helpful. The gripping happens after release and the arrow is long gone by then. The tilt you see might just be me trying to aim... I know that after release I have a slightly Asian style of follow through. Means I point the tip of the bow at the target a little after release. That might also look like a tilt.

  • @alanbeaulier5783
    @alanbeaulier5783 3 роки тому

    When you shoot you have an open bow hand and just before you release you grab your bow which causes the bow to jump.

      I've been doing that for a really long time now. I've watched it back many times on slow mo. The arrow is long gone by the time I close my hand. So it has no effect on the arrow. I just do it to keep me from squeezing the bow and to force me to push the bow handle into my palm, and not hold the bow with my fingers. It also stops the bow from flying out of my hand onto the ground haha.
