All three, Mortal Sword, Destriant and Shield Anvil, are swapped to new members.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that Ruse is the warren of the sea, not the sea captain. The word captain in that passage was referring to Captain Paran. So it's something like "Ruse is the warren of the sea, Captain."

I thought it was really great insight from Justin, when you two were talking about the conversation between Rake and Whiskyjack, and how this was probably borne out of similar conversations that Erikson and Esslemont had when gaming and how so many moments in these books are enhanced by being read and discussed by two friends who might feel differently about aspects of the story. I also just want to say that I really enjoyed the recreations you all did of various scenes in this chapter. I hope you will tell your friend that I thought she did an excellent job overall, but that I really liked her reading of Korlat. I think she conveyed a lot of the wisdom, calmness, and experience that Korlat has.

Great episode as always. Regarding the section with Silverfox and the T'lan Imass telling her that if anyone can be considered her father, it is Tool. This is because in Gardens of the Moon, after Tattersail has left Pale and is traveling in her warren, she has to leave it because of the effect caused by Tool's use of the Tellan warren in the area (an effect that only exists in Gardens). When she leaves her warren, she runs into Belurdan who is supposed to take her back to Tayschren. Tattersail deciding to open her warren, knowing it will likely destroy them because of the effect of Tool's Tellan warren, and hoping she can jump into Nightchill's body is what helps to create Silverfox. So this all happening within the effects of Tool's warren is why they say he could be considered more of her father than Pran Chole.

Props for the method voice acting there boys.. I hope that's what it means. English isn't my native language. The guest of the show did a great job as well.. very impressive accent mastery. Loved how she brought about airs of mystery and mythos and leprechaunness, I would've loved to participate a D&D game with her as the DM.

The banter towards the ending, when Justin goes "you slowly transition them from eating each other to eating regular food", peak dadhumour moment 👌.

Around the 49th minute, when Whiskeyjack is cornered by Corlat or whatever her name was spelled like, on the this being a Malazan war thing, you cant really blame her can you? Just moments earlier when conversing with Quick Ben, he openly advocated for Malazan Military Law, when the fate of the leaders of the Tennescowry was brought up.

I thought the commander / solder that spoke to Paran when he was young was WiskeyJack.

They do seem to use "Hood" as we would the word "Hell" Kind of like was it "Frell" in Farscape. Only more directly referencing the God of Shadow in GOTM

Halfway through, D asks whats meant by souls rushing in, a remark of Silverfox when she says it to Whiskeyjack. She means ten thousand souls for Whiskeyjack because thats roughly the number of soldiers their army has currently, and Whiskeyjack is second in command to Dujek.that is ten thousand Malazans. She means hundred thousand for her meaning the imass. She is a flesh and blood bonecaster after all.

I dunno if anyone has clarified to you guys yet or no, but the carpet of corpses are the soul bodies of those spirits who were shielding Mallet from the poison, so J was on the right track there.

You guys, I missed you guys. Really loving how J is suspicious at Arthantos and D going "meh not sure about that", this is just a gem of a podcast because although you have divergent approaches, you still click like a mofo, or mofos anyway, its two of you after all. Might be more comments, finally back from the second long break Ive had and glad to be able to experience this.

Just fyi guys, archaeology is the study of specifically human history. Of course that indicates an interest in history in general, so Erikson might also be interested in Dinosaurs but someone who deals with fossils would be a paleontologist.

In universe the term Mhybe means "a vessel" and, according to the wiki, the Rhivi use the term to describe a "container intended for a single use after which it would be discarded." Just a point of clarification. K'rul had not long faded from the world by the time the Crippled God was called down. You can look back at the prologue and see that when he and the other elder gods confront Kallor, K'rul is walking through some of the devastation of the Crippled God impacting the planet.

Top tip:- Remember the prologue guys when talking about the Panion Seer Kruppe can walk in dreams, and think of Gruntle where the wolves in Mhybe's dreams are concerned that's all I'm saying

If you liked the soldier banter in this chapter, be prepared, you're gonna get a lot more till the end of the series! It's one of my favourite things, frankly. The Malazan soldiers are a great mix of serious, insane, quirky personalities and hidden pain. This ends up in absurd and funny conversations that are a pleasure to read. Also, the spirits buried under Capustan are probably different from the ones Picker and Blend are talking about. I assumed the Capustan spirits were basically trapped up until now. The Black Dog Campaign happened something like 10 years before MoI, I think. It's a part of the Malazan world the fans are hoping to get to read about.

Good insight on the traditionalism of the Barghast and thinking about what can happen when people become disconnected from their own history and resist change. I think you can draw a connection between the fight with Trotts and the epigraph to this chapter. Trotts relied on his training in the Malazan military and learning from fighting in lots of engagements against many fighting styles to defeat a skilled warrior who was not used to different fighting styles and had trouble adapting to Trotts' method.

I feel this book has much better pacing so far compared to the whole of Deadhouse Gates.

I love the way you summarise, for the record-it’s nice hearing some of Erikson’s voice behind your summaries, and I think you capture all the really great points! It’s a longer form of summarising than others do, but I think it fits with your methodical way of going through these books, which I really like.

On the Children of the Dead Seed discussion you guys had, they weren't dead, the victims of unwanted sexual attention that is, no, they're about to die, and in the moment the soul leaves the body, the seed spills as it were. Freaky stuff.

There is also a very good reason why the timelines don't make sense all the time. It may actually make sense only after reading the last 200 pages of the last book, hahaha😂.
