Backstory
I started practicing acustic guitar in 2013 at the age of 41. First tune / song I learned was Big Rock Candy Mountain on an old made in Japan Conn steal string that I bought at an estate salefor $50
Up until 2021 I self studied in the styles of American Primitive, Classical, Flamenco, Parlor and Dellta Blues /Slide.
It was in 2021 when I traded most of my guitars for a couple of used five string banjos. I held onto my resonator thinking it would be my primary instrument.
And it was until November 2023 when I sold it to focus on playing only the five string banjo.
* self studied with the help of the content creators here on UA-cam. If you make videos that share tips and tricks/ full lessons I more than likely have paid your channel a visit.

Silent Night
This one was tricky! I started learning and practicing this the day after my last post with the personal challenge of learning it and posting it before Christmas Day. It's not anywhere near perfect, I know and I'm okay with that for now. Hope you enjoy or at least appreciate the effort. Thanks for watching !

It's good for the people just starting out to see videos like this. This stuff happens ! * As soon as I finish this description and press upload I'll go back and straighten out those rough areas. Thanks for watching!

Just assume all the full length tunes I share here are as they are now. I am aware that there is plenty of room for improvement. Thanks for watching!
Reubens Train

Reubens Train (as it is now) follow up video on this one later on down the road. Sometimes I smoke this tune and other times it smokes me. To be fair and honest with myself and others that watch I feel comfortable saying this is about my average. Note this is not a complete version of Reuben.. there is an alternative section thought by B. Nesbitts that I want to add to this once I get it in my ...
A bit early on this one. Early and I should've played it through twice... next time! Happy New Year in advance 👍
Hello, sir. I would like to thank you for your video. Hearing this helped me a lot... Hello from Brazil 🇧🇷
That's nice to hear. Thanks for sharing. Stop by next year I'll have it dialed in more. Thanks again
sweet job
@@bearshield7138 thanks for stopping in to give it a listen..
Very nice! Adding to the bag of tricks. "Banjo Night"
@@AcousticBoomstick Going for the holiday hat trick with Aud lang Syne 🤞 then it's back to the Old time Bluegrass stuff

Super cool to see an orchestral song played on a banjo. Nicely done.
They say the guitar is like a piano you can walk around with. In the same way the banjo is like the harpsichord . Thanks for watching!
Very well done.
Thanks for stopping in!
Very nice! I enjoy how there's nfinite notes hidden in a box of air. Enjoy that holiday spirit, all the best 🔔🔔
Thanks Chris!
Not the easiest song to play. Sounds great! Merry Christmas
I started this last night/ Thursday night with about 12 hrs of learning and practicing in since then. Basically driving myself nuts trying to get it right. I appreciate the comment. Thanks for listening!
Nice tunes and love the hat 💫🎄
Thanks for stopping in !
Whoah! Love the hat, and beautiful tunes as always 🙌
Thanks! I've been working on this since yesterday. I'm trying to get this One and Silent Night in my fingers and recorded before Christmas Eve. Full length share coming soon 🤞
Nice, rattle dem bones!
That seemed to go pretty spectacular as far as I’m concerned. Great to see you brother. Best Wishes
Cap'n, always good to hear from You. Thanks & Happy Holidays!
Keep up the work man
Thanks for stopping in!

Left out a few notes and added some weird stuff in place of them Haha Thanks guys!!
@bodhicrocker sounding better all the time man!
@AcousticBoomstick I remember when I first started practicing I often (not always) heard people saying how they never play a song twice the same. I was like shoot, man!? I can't play a tune correctly/as written once and we have people out there playing it different everytime? How the hell do they remember all this stuff 🤔 Now I get it! 👀
A corrupted and compressed version of Hobart Smith's Graveyard Blues arranged by Ryan Spearman at Play Better Banjo.
Nice! Happy Thanksgiving man 👍
Belated Happy Thanksgiving @@AcousticBoomstick
I love your different kinds of hats, I can’t believe I just noticed!
I do have a lot of hats. Many more where these came from.. Haha
I admire the style, friend
As taught by Bill Nesbitt minus the pick catch n slip. *Again I use the shorts as a where I'm at now. Full length videos to follow after I clean them up. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving!
Nice!
Sounds good!
I almost forgot the ending. I usually let the banjo ring out but in this case I wanting that ending lick in there. Slight delay but I caught it. One of those oh shoot moments. Thanks Chris
"Banjo Bodhi" 👍
Yeah man, keep on rollin'!
Had a touch about halfway. Just saying
Love your playing ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for listening.
@ you are truly welcome thanks for playing 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
@leedavis3704 Let me know if you have a tune request. I'm currently working on Lost Gander, Sunflower dance and Last Chance. After I finish those up I'll give your choice a shot. Thanks again
@ I actually don’t know any music, I just find people and songs I like and listen too & then let the person know that I liked there music 🎶
I don’t have a banjo teacher, so watching videos like this helps. And just curious, do you name any of your banjos? If so, i’d love to know! I named mine Bitsy!
Check out Brainjo here on UA-cam. He breaks down every lesson starting with (highlighting) the MELODY. Just stick to the melody is something you'll hear a lot. Unfortunately for me I didn't follow that very simple and key suggestion until recently.
Thank you 🙏
As far as the name. .. not at the moment. But I should give it one! The goodtime special is my one any only. I did have a few others but i sold them. They were all different makes and models with different necks. That wasn't good for my feel.
I have one more question.. If I were to bring my banjo somewhere very very cold, would the strings pop or the banjo itself break from the temperature? And if I could bring it in my case, will it less likely break?
@MadelineSalcido The sooner you start learning and practicing around people the better off you'll be when your ready to share your tunes. Dont hide ! Music is fior the listener. We as the players get some of that type two fun. * My 2 cents
More please
It took me an 1hr to memorize this tune and 10 plus hrs to get the rhythm close to right. I had enough time to go around twice but to be honest I didn't want to push my luck. Thanks for watching!
🥰🍃🌸
Goin' where the chilly winds don't blow 🪕
Dueling banjos - to be a duel well … there needs to be two🤷♀️
You're not wrong. Thanks for straightening that out.
Amazing 🫡
A bit weak on the bends ..will definitely clean this up and the other tunes before I post them in video form. Thanks again
The idea is to use the posts here in shorts as study films to find and work out problem areas in my playing. When I get the tunes closer to where they need to be I'll re shoot them in their entirety and post them in the video section. Thanks for watching! *To study and share the learning process.
Love it.
Thanks for listening
The 2 to 3 pull off has always been a challenge for me. I call it the goose call. Maybe it's time for a new set of stings 🤔
Fyi this is not a note for note cover of what's in the movie Deliverance . Check out Bill Nesbitts Dueling banjos here on UA-cam. That's my source . He explains the differences in that lesson.
I feel like I know this song but I can't place it
Thanks for stopping in.
I had bought a banjo about a week ago, and I’m excited to learn to play The Dueling Banjos! Keep up the good work, your posts encourages me 👍
Take it easy on yourself while learning. Enjoy the process with all its ups ,downs and long flats. Never compare your progress to someone elses. Good luck to you 🙏
Pretty much all of the three finger or Scruggs style I learned is from William A. (Bill) Nesbitts channel. That guys smokes this tune and every other one he shares *This and all my other posts need polishing.. I'll get em straightened out! Go check out Bill's site if you are interested in picking up the Banjo.
Keep it up, man, this is such quality content. Simple banjo playing. I needed this today, thank you!
My pleasure. Thanks for stopping in.

@@pricemedlin5651 would that make it the trail angle of death?🤔 My feet hurt.. if theres a water source I'm saying the night! Thanks for the comment
2f with picks. .. this one likes to get away from me/ I'm not playing it correctly. However you want to look at it. I found this tune on Jack Beuthins channel. I believe he's playing 2f flesh no picks. Go give is version a listen. Thanks
My take on Riebecks Banjo Composed by Andrew Prahlow. The tuning I'm using is gCGBD
I sourced the tabs from SynackFinacks channel here on YT and from David Brooks on Banjo Hangout.
This is the second time you popped up. Good stuff. I just learned this on guitar a couple weeks ago. Come meet me in Michigan!
This is a great talent to possess. Thank you for sharing
can you play something from the video game outerwilds? i’d love to hear it :)
I second this motion. Although simple, the main theme is such a good melody
The racing to the end part of this (and other shorts) isn't intentional. I do like trying to get what I want to share in within the 60 seconds allowed. Unfortunately its leading me to a hurried up/accelerando sound that I don't really want. Can you hear it ? Constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks
Yes. I did notice it. And it did feel hurried. It takes away a little bit from how fantastic your playing is. Maybe try a more gradual increase in tempo or choose a set tempo that will allow you to play the whole piece in your 60 second limit. Otherwise, awesome. Love it.
The part of Skeleton Dance that's been giving me the most trouble.

I went over the one minute mark.. had to nip a bit off the beginning.
This video made my day! Thank you.
