The Next Festival of Emerging Artists is a two-week immersive experience for the modern string player, composer, and choreographer. It provides a comprehensive approach to entrepreneurial career-building, contemporary music performance, and intensive, personalized artistic development.
Founded in 2013 and led by composer, conductor, and bassist Peter Askim, Next Festival has featured some of the most prominent figures in new music today: including Tony Arnold, Matt Haimovitz, Jennifer Koh, Nadia Sirota, Richard Thompson, Jeffrey Zeigler, and the string quartet ETHEL; and composers including Aaron Jay Kernis, Derek Bermel, Lisa Bielawa, Liisa Hirsch, Pierre Jalbert, Phil Kline, Jessica Meyer, and Aleksandra Vrebalov; as well as choreographer Christopher D’Amboise.
Made possible in part by a grant from The ASCAP Foundation, Bart Howard Fund, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, The Amphion Foundation, The Heineman Foundation, and the Williamson Foundation, as well as donors like you.

(World Premiere) "A Range" by Choreographer Hannah Dolen and Composer Kevin Madison
Every year, young composers and choreographers at the beginning of their careers, selected by Aaron Jay Kernis, Sidra Bell and Peter Askim, are invited for workshops at Gibney Dance Studio in NYC.
The Next Festival’s 2024 Choreographer, Composer and String Performance Fellows premiered new music and dance works in a free, public showing at the studio on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 3pm. This was the culmination of a week-long workshop, consisting of rehearsals, collaboration and spontaneous creation, aided by mentors Aaron Jay Kernis, Peter Askim, and choreographer Sidra Bell.
The composers guided Composer Fellows in the creation of new music to be played by the Festival’s String Performance Fellows alongside new dance works supported by Bell. The workshop's unique structure focuses on developing new languages to work across disciplinary boundaries, prioritizing processes rather than a finished product.

Special message from composer Michael R. Dudley Jr. "May this be for anyone who is anxious about what the future holds. Now, perhaps more than ever in our lives, it is of utmost importance that we are able to recognize the moments of joy and beauty in our lived experience, as evidence of the love we ought to have for the land, for ourselves, and for others. Because love is what fear comes for f...

Awesome playing!!!
The cellists be chilling. What piece is this btw?
Curtis Stewarts' new work “Essay #1: Leave the People”. Stay tuned for more.
Wow fantastic violin playing 🎻😃
What piece is this?
@@batterybroken a new piece we commissioned this year, called "...and yet there's beauty". More media to come of this stunning piece.
It's a shame a piece Richard wrote for Danny lead to the two falling out. Their friendship aside, no one else makes a bass sound anything like Danny does. He's not replaceable.
I didn't know they had a falling out 😢
@@philwelsh1633 Note when they stopped playing together.
kaufman music center.
You go girl! 🙌🏽😆 There's nothing like doing what you love in life!
I want more of this <3
More is on the way. Subscribe and stay tuned!
This needs to be in acoustic
part 2, wow
Yvette is the best musician of my generation
💐me encanto
This is really cool, I especially like the writing for the strings. You can definitely tell Yvette has a classical music foundation. I would've liked to hear the guitar more up front in the mix, wonder if this could work as a piece for electric guitar and string quartet. Great stuff Yvette. well done!!!
😍profound. We are All..connected. We cannot “escape” or run away from our humanity/inhumanity. Perhaps a “catch 22” : to be “saved” by Community..to be autonomous yet part of the Whole. It seems every generation searches for the same answers again and again (I’m 70)..and there are solutions, but those in power aren’t listening to them. What is true Freedom? Having choices..privileges..wealth, happiness? And isn’t that also another form of oppression? Who decides who suffers, survives, thrives…or goes. We can be surrounded by Community, and still be alone..and feel lonely. And for many ..solitude is preferable to Community, understandably. This is about more than just the interplay between musicians and dancers. Bella Lewitzky would have loved this piece..(former pianist with BLDC in LA 1975-80). V proud of Musicians and Dancers-Bravi tutti!👏🏼esp A.A./viola.💜
Thank you for sharing such kind words and thoughtful reflections on the piece <3
A fascinating insight into the extraordinary talents of Richard Thompson. Looking forward to his UK tour in May . At 75 in a few days time, a massive source of joy and inspiration for so long and so many..and long may it continue .
Beautiful. I listened 100 times
Wonderful! We'll be premiering more work by Stewart this June 7th and 8th. Stay tuned!
Very nice!!! 🎉🎉
I can't wait to hear more !!!!!!!!!!!
There's definitely more to come. We can't wait to share it with you!
This is such a treasure of knowledge and I’m so grateful to you all for your gift and generosity.
You are so welcome! It's what we're here to do. We hope you're subscribed. There's so much more to come. Regardless, this comment means a lot for us. Many thanks.

Saw this live last night for the closing of the festival. It's just so astonishing and beautiful. Yvette and the rest of the ensemble + conductor all created such a special moment.
Idk how i missed the full release but wake and bake and self care here we go
This is amazing!
Love seeing the havoc switch on the somersault being used in an orchestral setting
oh my god 8:51
beautiful
Through hardships Yvette went through her overcoming her mental health and her music innovates her heart her mind her body her spirit is healed and free to fly. She became a true essence of light and one. This music shows that
Yvette is a generational talent. If she composed a soundtrack for a film/tv series/video game or whatever that would be extremely cool.
We're doing a fundraiser RIGHT NOW to record this in the studio. Make a donation today! bit.ly/record-with-yvette
