Being a Michigander, I could very well see myself spending either the month of January or the month of February in either one of these cities. I wouldn't want to make either one of them my permanent home because I like the change in seasons, and I don't mind the snow and cold. I have yet to visit Los Angeles, but I have visited Miami. I visited Miami during the month of January. From a weather perspective, it was absolutely MARVELOUS.

So much to like about Calabasas! Glad you were honest about the nightlife of Calabasas. I'm single, but I used to work at nightclubs in the L.A. area as a second job and drove a limo for a few years going well into the next morning, so I'm past that. I've lived in both cities. I've grown to hate San Francisco. Los Angeles for all of it's horrendous faults is a more exciting city hands down, it is more urban and possibly more urbane. Despite San Francisco's pretentions,, L.A. is a much more sophisticated and stimulating city. There is more diversity of attractions and activities. San Fran is only 47 sq. miles and change and so, comparing the two city's transportation systems is tricky. The city of L.A. and nearby suburbs is probably 10 times the size of SF so LA has a much more dynamic mass transit system than it's given credit for and I can tell you, BART and MUNI in SF just ain't that great if you live here. Tourists and out of towners might think that the systems in SF are great at first glance but, these systems are really over hyped and, there's nowhere to go anyway. SF, despite all the hype is not really that friendly. In fact, it's actually genuinely unfriendly unless you are in the right demographic and work for Google. I think L.A, is at least marginally more friendly. However, the flip side of that is, L.A. can genuinely be characterized as not only a tough town and, that indeed it is but, it is also mean, hostile, hateful and racist. In fact, there is no rhyme or reason to the meanness, hatefulness and flaming hostility. However, the other perspective to that is, in a city with such a large population, you're bound to find people that you can engage with eventually if you don't get discouraged too soon. There is also something supernaturally negative in the air in LA and is something that you constantly have to defend against. The place will contaminate your soul if you let it. Ask anyone that has spent enough time here so, you constantly have to monitor your mood and state of mind and stay involved in positive activities, locations and with good people...if you can find em. Keep looking, they're there. Don't let yourself get discouraged. Otherwise, the place will eat you alive. SF in comparison is Hicksville. It's an overgrown Glendale.

San Francisco population is around 800,000 . Not 3 million. La has a pro football team- the Rams. La has no there there , mostly tract suburbs. San Francisco area has more surrounding open space . SF has more depth . LA however has great weather and beaches. SF is more distinct LA is more plastic like. I’ll take SF. But don’t move here, we have enough people.

Nice overview. I’ve been in LA for ten years and have been visiting San Diego lately to scope it out. Definitely prefer the quality and food options in LA so far, the fun and contagious energy of LA. However, San Diego is so lovely in how much less stressful it is IMO. And San Diego seems cleaner, greener, more pristine coastline. It really is a tough choice! And it really depends on where you live and frequent in LA.

Cons, Take you an hour to drive from one end of town to the other during Ruch hour. Cons, the Sheriff Department is way over bearing. I got pulled over every two weeks sometimes three when I lived there. IN ten years I got exactly ZERO tickets. How does that happen? Dining is nothing to talk about except the Albertos taco shops. It's the best in the world. El Rancherio or whatever Pfffft Go to Albertos. As far as the school go they might be good today they sucked when I was starting cause the libtards ruined education and made learning to read difficult. They stopped using phonics and wonder why some kids had issues. Housing what a Joke. How many people make that kinda money? You have to be pulling in 5,000 a month. That is manager level pay that leaves a lot of workers up the creek. Biggest Con, it's in CA and they banned all the good guns. I live in Idaho now I buy what the FK I want no politicians tell me what I can and can't own.
