I’ve never had a chance to watch the full movie, or actually seen the musical, but I think frank oz was wrong when he said they hated the ending because “the actors don’t take a bow to show they’re fine”. Imo the ending didn’t work only because they went and cut out all the bits in the musical to make Seymour unsympathetic. You can’t do everything you can to make a guy sympathetic and then kill him karmically. It doesn’t feel earned.
