I live in Los Angeles and travel to Vegas often. Its a super cool city with lots to offer. Never gets old.

Everyone in Summerlin has their kids go to private schools if they possibly can. CCSD ( the public school district ) is currently in a tie with Detroit for the worst large urban school district in the nation. Nevada state schools are ranked 49th place. Last year, they had over 300 incidents of students bringing weapons to school and it's not uncommon to see guards at schools in full body armor. There are currently over 1000 vacancies for teachers and they are simply not paying enough to find people to fill them, as people leave and their state teacher education program (there are only two state universities in Nevada) is turning out too few replacements. Just be aware that moving to Las Vegas has never been "family friendly" and the schools remain one of the worst things about living here. IF you can solve this issue, by lining up a private school ahead of time, then by all means, consider moving here. But the number of people who move here and are simply unaware of the #1 issue with the city and have their kids wrecked by being tossed into a title 1 school (which almost all of the public schools are) are too numerous to mention. The realtors and everyone else will tell you that this school in Henderson or Summerlin is "great", but in reality, they are comparing a F- school to a D+ school (of which there are only about 4 or 5 total). That's the literal actual spread in quality with CCSD currently. Not a single school is near the quality of any random city in the Midwest, like Peoria or any city in the Northwest, like Eugene. IMO, the title should be "If you can find a private school, move to Vegas" Otherwise, stay home or move elsewhere.

I would highly consider the areas just to the south of Water Street. (Black Mountain and Highland Hills) These were built in the 80s and have large lots, as well as some older townhomes, built back when the builders weren't cutting corners so dramatically. I'm not a fan of all of the new cookie-cutter construction on Water Street and the surrounding area as it kind of kills off more and more of the old town charm.

Everything is all about the casinos, horrible place to live ,especially if you have children, drugs, crime, traffic, I don't recommend it

We’re planning on moving to Vegas from Hawaii. Priced out of our own home. Just a couple in our late 20’s who are used to working 60 hours a week(wasn’t enough to stay in our home island) I’ve been told to schedule apartment tours, come up and rent a hotel for a week and then go to those showings and basically hope that we can move in asap or we will have to keep renting hotel rooms. Do you have any suggestions on how to go about the process a little better?

Anyone have suggestions for a couple 27 & 30 years old: no kids, doesn’t want a car in hopes of living and working in Vegas, coming from Hawaii to give Vegas a go(a year at least if not longer), used to working 6 days a week a few double shifts(what’s required to survive in Hawaii nowadays), I’m an assistant mgr at an arcade & my bf works at a resort. Any recommendations on places to live? Work? Pros and cons? ❤ anything is much appreciated

I’ve been here for a year now in the Summerlin area, a very nice community. I moved here from California to get away from the craziness. The various communities are great as long as you know where to be. Statistically, the crime rate here is twice that of Los Angeles based upon FBI data. Prices for just about anything, except gas, are very high. Housing prices are still better than California but are increasing every day. We paid $512K for a new home that was in the low $400’s two years ago. Traffic is not bad, but the drivers here are utterly insane 24/7. I see multiple idiot drivers every single time I leave the house. Rude, reckless, and stupid are the rules of the day which is why our insurance rates are higher than Los Angeles. Overall, I’m glad I made the move for all the reasons mentioned in this video. Gun up, because most people carry here, watch your six o’oclock, drive defensively like everyone else is out to get you and you’ll be fine.

Sounds absolutely abhorrent. I lived there many years ago. I had so many people running around and shooting guns into the air and threatening everyone else. The east/northeast side up to Nellis is much better for families and homes that are new. Don’t even bother with summerlin. We don’t like you and stay away from our gated communities. You aren’t worthy enough to live in this horrific nightmare that’s called Summerlin. Try and find an apartment by the stratosphere.

The only thing in Vegas that I despise more is high cost of auto insurance. No tickets, no dui’s, no accidents but it 3x more than my last state. I think it’s a scam 😂 So my auto insurance is my state tax, since it’s required. 💝 The rest of my expenses are great with no issues. 4 to 5 months intense heat and the rest of the year a breeze 🎉

Will the outdoor amenities belong to the buyer of the $920,000 Condo with a loft, or would I have to share the outdoor space with others in the building? On the video, it looked like you came out a door that was possibly from the condo you were showing? Also, is there an HOA for this property? Vegas has it’s downfalls. But it’s hard leaving it. I moved to Georgia 3 years ago and sometimes I miss it a whole lot.
