    How can I contact you? The car was built by my uncle Washington James. I thought until seeing this video the car had gone for ever. I’d love to see the car again. My father wrote a book about the history of the village of Cenarth and included an article about the car. I’d be delighted to send you a copy! Uncle Washi was a very well known tenor singer in Wales if you wish to hear his voice it’s on youtube type his name and you’ll get it. My uncle would tune cars by using his voice he’d sing to them! People would bring cars to his garage from as far as Birmingham to be tuned. Needless to say I adored him. To have further information about the car his children still live in the village and would be delighted I’m sure to help you. Best wishes and thanks a million for restoring the 83. Diolch o galon!

    My very first car back in the late 60’s was an Austin A30 in dark green, not my favourite colour, so decided to hand repaint it in black with a cream roof, bonnet and boot, using proper brushing cellulose. My father was a painter and decorator who’d done his apprenticeship pre WW2, so he did the cream, I did the black! His paint looked like glass, mine looked as if it had been applied with a trowel! I rubbed it down and tried again, actually made it worse, with more runs than England get in a test match! In the end father re did it! Can’t beat experience!

    When I worked in a garage (in 1960s) we had an old painter who had been trained in a RR coach-builder’s shop. He could brush paint so good it looked like it had been sprayed. We had a customer (Lenton Transport) who always had their Lorries hand/brush painted Lenton Green. Special brushing cellulose of course, but with his painting and the signwriter’s gold lining and artwork (all very old school) the Bedford trucks looked amazing! Your work looks really good. I hope we’re going to see something of the event you’ve entered it for. Les

    Just came across this and immediately subscribed! My first car (handed down from my parents) was 1973 example of these - one of the last. Too bad about the motor though - at first I thought it was an automatic (as they were single SU carb 1275). The correct engine for this would be 1275 with twin HS2 SU, LCB exhaust manifold, but NOT the bigger valve/high compression cylinder head that would have been fitted to a 1275 Cooper S, 1300 GT, or Riley Kestrel. Rated at 65 HP, vs the 70HP of the 1300 GT.

    Great quality work and professional outcome , it is amazing what good results you can achieve with hand painting .Many years ago I found a close match to the Surf Blue Mini I owned as a young lad using a Woolworths paint called Peacock Blue .Just a wing was meant to be painted and ended up doing the entire car with an impressive outcome- no one ever guessed !.

    That looks like a couple of good mods. I fitted CBF125 forks to my Innova, but used a CG125 front wheel. That’s given me loads of problems with disc alignment, wheel spacer measurements, etc, but it works now, and seems good. At least with your drum brake you don’t have brake alignment probs, just get the torque rod sorted and wheel spacers right and you’re there! I really like the look of that little bike, and the Honda engine was surely specially made to fit that frame… thanks. Les

    Keep the MGB.. parts are easier to find and less to buy. Plus an MGB going to go up in value. Buy a new Heritage body shell and use the rust bucket as a parts doner.

    • @whatsintheworkshop4478
      @whatsintheworkshop4478 28 днів тому

      Unfortunately at £15000 I don't have the budget for a heritage shell. Plus I would need all the interior etc. Then budget another 5k for paint. A rubber bumper B is just never going to be worth enough to see that money back. Although it's very easy to get parts for and a common car, that's also it's downfall.

    In my opinion the MGB is the car to move on. They are not truly rare, there are plenty of them about and a wealth of new and used parts to rebuild the many projects on the market at any given time. An inexperienced restorer can bring almost any MGB back to life with the resources already mentioned. The Wolseley on the other hand requires skill and ingenuity to bring back to life which you have.

    • @whatsintheworkshop4478
      @whatsintheworkshop4478 Місяць тому

      Ah, well I didn't say it wasn't fixable as such, just not a full restoration candidate 😉 But I'll admit, I may have gone a little further along that road than I intended! Initially it's quite freeing knowing it's not going to be a perfect car, so all I need to do is make it solid. But then there is the satisfaction of doing bits properly that outweighs that.
