I think you are sucking the guts out because you are pumping from the head end , better off pumping from the cast end , about 3 inches from the cast and about 30 degree angle and up to about 10 inches deep . hope that helps mate .
I will give that a try to see if it helps ! TY for the advice
I just got one of them cannon too. Where are you fishing butty ?
I'm new to baitcaster reel just last year was my first one Ozark trail OTX and put 12 lbs monofilament line and only Bird nest four but up the brakes just a little bit and not one problem since. On my ugly stick GX2 medium heavy power 7' rod it was so nice combo I got a ugly stick catfish rod and that my go to for big lure's. Nice video now I want another one in Heavy power rod for big fish out of weeds. Just got my first Diawa Cross Fire LT 4000 size and the 2500 for saltwater and brackish water. Is not speechless with 24 lbs of Drag and 22 lbs Drag very nice for $31 American so I got two now need a rod to match my GX2 medium heavy power rod. To me that's fancy. I'm the por guy.
I found I had to take the rubber washers out and replace with silicone washer other wise ok
I ended up removing 2 of the 4 washers in it works better now !
Looks like a scary paddle. We were planning on paddling near there as part of our aim of doing all the Wales coast. We’ve done Pembrey to Llanelli and Laugharne to Pendine. Have also done the Towy upstream of Laugharne/Ferryside but Carmarthen bay looks daunting. If we stayed close to the shore, would we miss the rough water around the sandbar? Reminds me of when we got caught in a similar tidal race at the mouth of the Loughor estuary last year, the waves were coming from all sides.
The big Problem you will face is that its situated between 2 military basses which you have to stay a distance away from . So Pembrey to Laugharne will be a treacherous trip at low tide you have about 2 hours to make it, at Full tide even larger boats avoid that area and unless its a nice day . My best advice would be start about 2 to 3 hours before low tide and go straight from Pembrey beach in a straight line across to Pendine beach and stay just outside of the Sand Bars because the waves are so unpredictable they can peak and come from any direction because of the 3 rivers and the sea all meet together . I wish you good luck and safe passage sir .
@@cheapskate101 Thanks. We were aware of the firing ranges at Pembrey and Pendine but thought that on weekends when they were closed it was OK to paddle along those beaches? We tend to just hug the coast when we go sea kayaking. I'm not sure where the sand bars are in Carmarthen bay. On satellite imagery, there seem to be sandbanks roughly half way between the end of Cefn Sidan Sands and Ginst Point, is that the sandbar that you paddled over on your fishing trip? We were thinking maybe doing Kidwelly Quay to Pembrey or possibly Ferryside to Pembrey (or vice versa) but it's awkward since it will involve going against the tide for some of the route. It's just that we're trying to join up the dots on our plans to kayak all of the Wales coast, and Carmarthen bay is certainly one of the tricky sections to navigate safely!
@@TheKayakCrew so if you are going to do the route you have planned then do that on full tides Pembrey to Kidwelly key wont take to long about an hour or so as for trying to kayak against the tide forget it once that tide turns its a one way trip . The speed of the tide is bonkers around here you only have a couple of hours at low tide or top tide after that your at the mercy of the currents . I myself use the tide to travel the long distances out to sea with the out tide and back in on the in tide . so my advise would be 2 hour before top tide go Pembrey to kidwelly then go from kidwelly to ferryside cross over to llansteffan then kayak around to laurghane the whole trip should be possible in under 3 hours possibly less but it will be a tight schedule and fine weather would be best but most of all avoid any windy days as that will whip the waves up . good luck .
@@cheapskate101 Thanks again for the very useful info and your local knowledge. Yes, we appreciate the tides on the estuaries, we've paddled the Towy, Taf and a few other estuaries, know what you mean about trying to go against the tide. We mapped it as being 9 miles from Pembrey to Kidwelly Quay, so I think we'd take over 2 hours to do that. Is the tidal current strong on Cefn Sidan Sands? I presume it will be strong once we get into the estuaries but not sure about Cefn Sidan. We did launch at Pembrey once but went with the tide round into the Loughor and up to Llanelli thne back to Burry Pt. We tend to do routes between 8-12 miles if sea or estuary kayaking, we'll go a bit further if we are doing a river and have the current helping us downstream. So, I think your suggestion of going on to Llansteffan and then Laugharne may be too far for us tbh. I think we can do Pembrey to Kidwelly with an incoming tide though, presuming that the tide is not running too strong against us along Cefn Sidan sands. Would like to paddle up past the castle and back to the Quay
I contacted the seller and just asked for a 28mm, he said no problem, the 28mm is £30 plus £6.50 postage🤓.

I’ve spent many an hour the other side of the river working my way back to two steps, nearly got caught out in the dark one time… very sound advice you offer! I’ve only ever done bait fishing, but hoping to start using lures. I’d like to support the new shop in Carmarthen market. Any advice on what types of lures to go for, specifically for this estuary?

@@cheapskate101 well that’s lucky… already got a couple of them! Thanks for the info 👍
Hi just come across this and know the area. Lovely spot. Was always under the impression you wearnt allowed to fish from a kayak or boat in the estuary or the bay?
i too was aware of the no bass fishing rule but i ( from around year 2000 on ) Ibelieve since the introduction of the new limited BASS take rules 2 per person per 24Hour session . The no fishing zones, information have disappeared from the internet . So i believe the old rules have been superseded by the newer rules which are for both shore and boat fishing .
@cheapskatefishing69 I've had a look into this and the by laws have been put into legislation . Inshore fisheries 2011 legislation states that no fishing from any vessel or boat of any description from May 1st - 31st Oct. It isn't just Bass it states no person shall fish for any sea fish. Only a heads up because its a hefty fine I'm not being the smfishi police, just a friendly heads up 👍 tried to put the link into the comment but won't let me copy across.
thanks for the heads up i struggled to find that before but using the info provided i found it again . so the important part of that legislation is the term used is any BOAT which Kayaks , canoes and paddleboards do not legally come under as they are termed by LAW as PADDLE CRAFT. i have spoken to the fishery officers and to be honest they don't even understand the law and legal definitions themselves so i told him he should as that was his job . The cut off lines on the badly drawn map is roughly from the llanstefan castle to the ferryside yachtclub which allows boats to be used upriver from there . Which i frequently do and in that video i am up river from there . But to be honest ive seen many proper engine boats fishing inside V lines@@chrismayor2542
Just a thought... why not use the current to carry the lure out a bit before you retrieve, at least you get the extra yardage! New sub... found this spot last year and looking forward to this year getting a full season up there. How does it fish in winter... both sides?
I purchased some line and asked to return it and they said they would credit me but l thrown it out, quite poor quality
Its definitely a case of Hit and Miss with a lot of the products on there . Some of the things ive had i was really pleased and happy with while others you can tell why they are so cheap .
The open face looks nice
I was looking forward for baitcaster lol 😂
Hi I’ve just bought one of these just to try out and your video is the only one using it in U.K I could find good video
How NOT to pump lug PMSL!
Greetings from wet Pendine
Are the flounders showing in Ferryside at the moment? . Enjoying the videos, keep them coming.
I caught One worth keeping . But the word is that commercial fishing trawlers have been targeting the Flounder as its a Non quota catch and its decimated the Flounder population over the last 5 years .
Well id judt like to say you dont nred to se hole to just the cast as long as theif is a cast u can pupmp it i hardly ever see the hole and do ok buggets haul 600 worms normslly 3 to 400 but i hstdky ever see a hole on casts i do on the beach i go so you dont have to be able to see the holes
So what I'm led to believe is that Black lug don't leave blow holes and lie straight in the burrows but common Lug do and lie in arcs in the burrow so you need to know the direction in which to pump ( Its a totally different technique for common Lug )
Nope no such thing as common lug lug is lug they all have bloe holes ,yellow tails are belived to ne juvenile black lug if u tread on sand near cast will always be a blow hole on every lug and they all live in an arc burrow like a u bend from hole to cast u have been miss informed
How do you know what angle and direction to put the pump in without the hole?
Are you in angelsea
Good luck
No im down in south west wales .
Nice little session pal. I fish at ishmels a lot because of your videos. A decent little spot. Cheers
Thanks and tight lines !!
Floating beads are ideal really helps with the crabs they can be a nusense at times
Just found your channel. Love it. Budget tackle definitely catches fish not to mention those spinnerbaits. Took my brother and his future wife fishing twenty years ago. Pulled out a spinner bait to catch a Bass and his mrs didn’t stop laughing at me and my “fancy earrings”, as she called them. Hard to get hold of back then but I think I got them from Harris Angling. Found white with Chatreuse to be best, similar to yours I guess. She still takes the piss at family parties but I have caught quite a few on them over the years. Loved the video mate.
Brilliant video thanks
Hi mate can I ask why you prefer 28mm over others
Nice fish that. Do you ever fish st ishmels?
Is that mark in the begining right from the carpark i cant really work it out
I have been spinning in ferryside myself recently tried that spot I've only had two tiny schoolies in 3 sessions any tips on tides do you only fish the tide put?
I caught a mullet on a flying c in lougher years ago. I’m convinced I foul hooked it in the lip
They have to earn a living
yes agreed
They also bend easy the copper ones
seems to be pretty tough to me but i suppose if i fell on it against the rocks then yes it could damage but so could any other pump .

Great video, just ordered a pump , when you look at how much the materials would cost from DIY store it's not that much dearer and no hassle of the build process 👍
Hi, great video, I have seen these lures around for the American market and like you have wondered if they will work for our waters, so you have answered that! Could you let me know what weight the spinner bait is?Like you I fish a lot of estuary’s for bass. Many thanks.
i think its around the 25g to 30g in weight it one of my heavier lures . Hope you have luck with it too .
Very nice spot and fishing 👍
Back in the 90’s commercial bait pumpers cleared Cefn Sidan out of black lug supplying the winter cod fishing charter boats out of Swansea, when 30lb fish were not uncommon. They always used washing up liquid, as do most I see who still pump. It’s a shame and I often wonder apart from commercial pumpers greed, how much of the worm beds were lost due to them basically injecting the beach with Fairy.🤔 Lovely film btw, especially being local and it’s good to see you being sympathetic to the environment, after all it’s in our own best interests being anglers.👍
Why can't they use olive oil
@@jc301-OTECH No need to waste money on expensive olive oil, I use vegetable oil. Any natural oil is far better for the environment than using a synthetic detergent.
It’s a good reference point when lure fishing without rod rests and seat boxes to move.
I live in Burry Port and know exactly how you felt. One moment you’re being picked up and surfing down the face while the wave is trying to turn you beam on, the it sucks you back and buries your stern before picking you up and launching you again in another attempt to capsize you. We don’t need wind around here, just big tides and sandbanks, both of which we have in abundance. Great Bass fishing though and my best so far is 12lb, not from a yak though, from the old training wall off Crofty industrial in early spring. Tight lines and keep safe. Nice vid and well presented too.👍
can't find website more details please can't wait for next video
Nothing like the 90’s
No it was bonkers in the 90s 1000s of Crazies descending the beach like a foreign army invasion . Remember it well .
@@cheapskatefishing69 Me too’ was there myself’ different times eh’ first time I’d ever seen Policemen scared 😂
You’re legally allowed to collect up to 8 kilos of them so the pigs can’t do shit
@@Digitalllanelli Maybe these days 🤔👍
@@Digitalllanelli we call that " a feed " usually around 2 buckets worth .
Nice production there, I enjoyed watching it. With regard to trebles...I'm changing over to singles and flattening the barbs on trebles if I do use them. I hate to see fish damaging themselves, trebles can be so difficult to dislodge especially if the lure gets swallowed.
TY Andrew , I notice a lot of the more conscientious fisherman are using singles instead of trebles, i think that's very good practice indeed the only issue for me it is a shame that some lures like the Flying Cs (my go to lure ) its almost impossible to change to a single hook because of the way it designed . 🤔
@@cheapskatefishing69 indeed; I’ve been trying to change over to singles issue being; lures come with small split rings making it difficult to attach the singles unless you change split ring for a bigger size. Plus, attach too bigger single and they can hook over the top of the lure or catch each other. Henry Gilbey crushes the barbs. At least that does help I suppose. Good luck for the coming season 👍
Excellent advise, I fish the taw and torrid get estuary and always wear an inflatable life jacket, and always carry a wading stick. I have not used the life jacket yet, but the wading stick is invaluable.
I can see the stick being very useful for avoiding those pesky hidden patches of deep mud . I might try and get one of those rod spikes and use it for both rod holder and as a wading stick . great idea thanks !
Hi there...I've just recently taken up lure fishing...I'm from llanelli...and the estuary is pretty much no good...just looking for some advice on any marks or locations I can target....you look to have some success in Ferryside? Assuming this estuary is better than by llanelli...?
Hi thanks for the comment . Ive always heard that the Lougher estuary was a fantastic Bass spinning spot which to the Eastern side of Llanelli try using a Flying C spinner between the road bridge and the railway bridge . Ive been out at Ferryside Today but the river course has changed so much in 18 months that its a struggle to find a good spot to spin for Bass in ferryside at the moment , I will update if things change or i find a new spot that seems productive . Tight lines .
Good job, Glyn. I 'M a new user and defenitly will try this method. Thanks
Although this is video will show you that you will catch fish with budget gear you will definitely catch more with upgraded gear, ie a decent fixed spool rather than a baitcaster because a fixed spool and better action rod you will cast further and obviously cover more ground but still a decent videos for people on a tight budget.
the rod is the wrong type for that reel. baitcasting rods have a trigger, and the eyes are much closer together.
Actually its the other way round those rods your on about are designed specifically for bait-casting reels its not that bait-casting reels are specifically designed for 1 type of rod . The reels have been around for years but those trigger handle rods are relevantly newer . Thank you for the insight tho and tight lines to you sir .
I've just ordered those lures after watching your video. Looking forward to giving them a bass
Hope you enjoy!
Great enjoyed thatv
Why are you stopping you cast prematurely
To straighten out the line and avoid an over-run.
